The use of Dwemer devices by Aedra worshippers

SPOILER AHEAD:

I have always wondered about the issue of compromise in moral matters. How far does one go in bending one's beliefs in order to achieve a greater good. My question is this: given that followers of the Temple and the Neravarine cult are pretty much of the same position as the Chimer when it comes to the issue of the Dwemer and their "profane" arts how far would they go in using Dwemer devices if it meant they had the upper hand in a conflict? Personally, I think that they both would be open to using a lot of different devices as long as they didn't tap into any "holy" energies. I think that constructs, especially the highly complex ones like the Imperfects, would be considered profane but things like the walking ballista would be used readily.

I am doing a mod in which Dwemer tech plays a big part as do alliances and I will be writing tensions in that are based around these differing viewpoints and the way I see it is this: should the Dwemer faction side with members of the Temple then tensions would be ever present but come to a head only when the most complex humanoid constructs began to be constructed. After this point there may even be a possibility of conflict between the factions.

Also, what was it about the construction of the Anumidium that the Chimer found so profane?

Bro, if Ayem didn't have a problem with, no one does. Anyway, where do you think all the Dwemer goods seized by customs go? Decorating the offices and houses of Temple officials and the Tribunal, I tells ye.

Sotha Sil quite deliberately made his Fabricants to be semi-organic imitations of what the Dunmer considered the "mockeries of life" that were Centurions. In the Sermons, I think Vivec states explicitly to take the Dwemer stuff and use them to the advantage of the then-Chimer.

As for the Nine Divines religion, they have no opinion on the matter at all, it seems, and the only reason Dwemer artifacts are restricted is because of their value, because da Emprah and his boys want first crack at the finely-crafted weapons and armor of the bygone race.

The Nerevarine used a Dwemer gauntlet and weapons with the blessing and approval of Lord Vivec. I don't see why the Temple would object to using Dwemer objects if it's for their version of the greater good.

So why did the Chimer go to war with the Dwemer? I thought the building of the Numidium was the straw that broke the camel's back? It was the most profane thing they could have created. Or was it just that the Chimer feared the power of the Numidium?

It was the intended use of the Numidium (at least what they figured it would be used for) that did it. They thought it was to crush the Velothi people under it's iron boot. But as we all know, chicks dig giant robots. Kagrenac was just trying to pick up chicks. It was all a big misunderstanding.

Was there any indication that the Dwemer were planning to be hostile with it or were the Chimer just surmising?

You'd need to ask an expert. I think that, if my assessment is wrong, Kagrenac did intend violence but Dumac didn't. I still, however, hold by my opinion that it may have been one great misunderstanding.
