The Vardenfell Experience

Post » Wed Jul 07, 2010 9:28 pm

I am an avid fan of Morrowind, still play it to this day. I'm constantly getting mods for it and always yearning for more. However, even with mods the Morrowind engine can only do so much, and its an unfortunate truth. I was thinking on how someoen could mod Morrowind to make it seem like a next gen game, then came to the idea. Why not Mod Skyrim to Morrowind? New engine, and new possibilities.

So what this mod would do is rewind time back just a little over 200 years, make the main character the Nerevarine Incarnate, instead of the Dovakiin, and would set you in Vardenfell. Now the mod wouldn't have a different storyline then the Original Morrowind game. Most of the storyline would be the same (with a few new quests, and maybe the ability to join House Dagoth after Dagoth Grares invitiation in the original) and it would have most of the guilds back, including maybe House Indoril. Also with the new engine, their would be the side quest like skills, farming saltrice for Mazte, things like that that are native to Vardenfell.

Please Note, this is not a request to the community to make a mod like this. I'm not asking someone else to do this for me, I have modding experience myself, and even better, I got moddeling experience in several different programs. If enough people seem to want this mod from the poll, I'll start on it now, so that by the time six month's pass and Skyrim is out, I'll have a good number of meshes and textures for the Vardenfell province. Of course by the time Skyrim comes out, I'll probably take a break from modding this, and beat the living daylights out of skyrim untill there is no vanilla content left, and resume the mod, learning how to use the Creation Kit.

Thoughts and idea's? Oh and please no flaming, or spamming if your not a fan of Morrowind. This is not somethign I'm asking the dev's to do, I'm not taking anything away from Skyrim from you guys, just adding vardenfell possibly to those who wish it.

Thanks for reading, and have a good day. Heading to work now, will be back in 9 hours or so.

No, I would not. I would just play Morrowind instead and enjoy a more polished game than this mod could ever be.

I've still got Morrowind installed, and I'm not big on eye candy. Good luck with your endeavor, to be sure- but I can already play Morrowind any time I like.

You can be sure I'll play it :) 100%

I am a Morrowind lover myself, the storyline and atmosphere it gave were phenomenal for me, I don't think new graphics will bring me that same old feeling, but if you want, and can, to try then I'll cheer for you :) Maybe if I'll have the time I'll make some models for you myself, but currently I'm in the army so I'm not so much available xD .................

Talk to me in like... a year and a half when I finished my service :)

Very true, but I do have six month's to prepare, and get a team together. Not to mention I'm a Vardenfell lore buff, and no everything about that game pretty much. I'd be very focussed on the little details. The only thing I dont have experience with though, is modding and creatting landmasses. So I'd either have to find someoen that can do that, or learn in six months.

There were a couple attempts to do that with Oblivion, but it's a lot of work. One mod, which shall not be named, cheated and got banned. Another mod tried to do it legitly (SoVvM, IIRC), but didn't get far beyond landmass reconstruction after a few years. I don't think anyone's working on it anymore.

I suppose I would... if combat is like the one in Skyrim, not like the one in Morrowind. I mean, Morrowind is a great game, but combat is so... bad.

Sorry, but wasn't that already made for Oblivion? EDIT: I saw someone above saying that the mod shall not be named here, I am sorry, did not know it was banned! ;)

I believe they basically grabbed Morrowind's content and put it on Oblivion's engine. I think it used some old textures though...

It is definitely an interesting idea, and I would clap at the modders who took the time to actually do something so big! :) But I am playing Morrowind for the first time right now, and not finding any problem with it (although I am using some combat mods to make it more like Oblivion lol). But I can understand what a huge difference it would be to people who can't get used to "old" graphics!

Morroblivion added Morrowind's landmass, NPCs, monster and all of that (I think), but not the story, quests, guild, etc from Morrowind.

I'm certain atleast one person out there will do that with skyrim.

To answer your question though, no I would not use that if I did use mods.

doubt it ...

Since I am in my early 30's I have no problem with playing 'older' games like Morrowind ...

Wouldn't suprise me that I stilly play Oblivion or Morrowind in the upcoming five / ten years or so ...

Yes, I'd play it, but man... at least spell Vvardenfell right.

Have you seen the Morrowind Overhaul 2011 mod? Google it. It's pretty sweet.

Nah, the game is Morrowind. Anyway, don't worry, I used to call it "Vanderfell"...

Don't worry about it, it could be worse.
You could misspell Morrowind as Morrowing like some people do for whatever reason.

I would not play it, but I'd admire screenshots and videos and think it was pretty cool. I have no real interest in playing it though. I have Morrowind, and I highly doubt Skyrim-modded-to-Morrowind would ever capture the same charm.

No, keep Morrowind in Morrowind. When they put out DLC, I want them to show me something I haven't seen already.

Good thing the OP is talking about making this himself, as a mod, then...like those of us who actually read his post are aware.

However, even with mods the Morrowind engine can only do so much

The MW modding community doesn't like it much, because he didn't ask the modders for permission. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1181729-relz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics/ is great though.

Sounds like a waste of time, why would I play something all over again in a new engine`? I just hope Skyrim returns to some of morrowind's features instead

I loved Morrowind like a cliff racer loves killing noobs that are trying to reach the first Dwemer ruins in search of a puzzle box.

But no.. if they remake Morrowind in the distant future, it should be completely redone... not a half [CENSORED] mod.. that would be insulting... Morrowind deserves to be redone as a whole into a new game with a new engine.
