The Vault 81 cure and Father

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 9:33 pm

Just curious as to what people think about whether the Vault 81 'universal' cure could have been used to save Father/Shaun.

The purpose of Vault 81 was to create a cure that could treat every known ailment to mankind. Curie ended up completing this research but it isn't clear as to whether the cure is unique to the molerat disease, or if it is indeed universal to any sickness.

If it's universal, couldn't we have used it to potentially save Father?

From what I took from her explanation, it was a cureall for contagious diseases, like viruses and bacteria. Didn't father die of cancer or something like that? It wouldn't be too unbelievable if the cure didn't work for that.

Also in the case of Father, I've always felt that he has accepted it as "his time".

Iirc he mentions that the Institute could have done more (but probably painful/nasty side effects). I mean, look what they did to Kellog.

He probably choses NOT to be cured

I was unsure about this too - really no medicine for cancer? They could replace whole parts of body, why not replaces the corrupted by cancer?

So why would he choose not to live?

And about the medicine - why is in the vault made universal medicine and not the exact medicine? If it is taken from the diseased molerats, could be used only for cure of that diesease and now it is not available, because the original molerats died and only the evaluated version was still alive? I guess it is there for me to have a reason to take it with me and if it would be cure for that disease only, there would be no reason for choice.

So lets say it is mainly for that disease and also for other similar diseases that you could get from mutated animals. On the other hand - are there really any diseases that my PC could have? So well, I don't know, maybe there is some other NPC with similar disease you can save, if it is not the father.

Father specifically hates transhuman cybernetics enough that he's BANNED life-extending technologies in the Institute. Probably because he hates cyborgs like Kellog.

Really, I foresee this happening to a Good Karma Sole Survivor Director.

Director: I am freeing all Synths.

Institute personnel: BOO! HISS! *forms lynch mob*

Director: But everyone gets to live centuries via Kellog's tech.

Institute personnel: *pause* Okay, that's cool. *puts away lynch mob gear*

From what I remember, the Vault 81 Cure was only capable of curing any of the diseases from the Mole Rats. So whatever myriad of diseases you could get from a Vault 81 Mole Rat, the Cure would solve it - but I doubt it was a panacea for any disease in existence, especially not new post-war diseases that might have sprung up; hence why Curie's so eager to ditch the vault and do science in the new world. Curie explains that it's the last one left because all of the materials used to synthesize more have expired.
