Ok so we all know Fallout Tactics is at least semi-canon. Now the into of Fallout Tactics mentions Vietnam.

Edit: This topic is not intended for real world political or historical events that took place during the Vietnam War. Simply if the Vietnam War happened in Fallout Universe (only differently) based on my link.

The root causes of the Vietnam war wouldn't have changed after the "offical" split from our timeline. I can't get into specifics, due to the real-world politics ban, but I highly doubt that Fallout's USA wasn't invovled in many of the real-world proxy wars that sprung up during the Cold War.

That is my thinking as well. America was still apart of the UN in the Fallout Universe since it was founded after WW2. USSR and America still had their puppet states across the globe. There had to be some conflict. Vietnam was years in the making before America got involved. Once the communists got involved in the North, I can see America getting involved. After all North and South Vietnam were created in 1954 I believe.

Since Tactics mentions a decleration of War in Vietnam. I can imagine that America wasn't to concerned with causing WW3 and just bombed the crap out of the North until it surrendered.

My guess would be that after the North surrendered. Vietnam would have been made whole again. America then hands over power to the new none communist government. Many years later when resources started running out and the UN fell. America pulls whatever troops they had there out like they did everywhere else.

After that China might have annexed it.
