The Vindictive AI

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:47 pm

I'm playing a level 16. I usually play co-op online with guys who are pretty good and the medics can almost never help anybody. The AI even takes you out from long range and sprints across the entire battlefield to show you the bottom of their foot. Because of this I feel like I'm spending most of every game now running back to the frontline instead of being able to accomplish anything like I could on the earlier levels. Can the mad rush to Gears of War all the human players be toned down so it only happens maybe 1 in 4 times you're downed instead of 3 in 4?

If you're a good medic then that shouldn't be the problem...
AI are plain useless.

My problem is the stupid and useless human medics that can't do anything at all, let alone the objective... I have to go lone-wolfing to get to the objective (mainly because the time is running out, and no one is doing anything about it meaning I cannot stop and help others)

So it's just a big facepalm ><

How does your skill as a medic prevent curbstomping? Or are you saying a good medic is right beside every character when they're being fired upon?

Well, it really depends on your entire team...
If you're team is right on top of the objective, then you can be beside them reviving and buffing :P
If you're the only one doing the job and trying to finish up the medic type mission while your team just sits around, then it's not your fault for it...

In my opinion, you should have at the very LEAST 2 medics working hard on a medic objective... and 2 healing everyone.

But with current players, there is hardly anyone who lets you relax and play with the flow... They just end up killing not focusing on the objective.

So it mainly depends on the team.

The AI are simply doing what any sensible player would do, but i also have to say that it can be a little overdone sometimes, say when an enemy comes up under fire to finish you off.

The AI has specific patterns for when they target an enemy for finishing off.

1. No other targets.
2. Target is a Medic (even more critical when you're high enough level to have Self Res - even if you don't actually have it)
3. Target is the class that does the current objective (meaning universal objectives will get your team wiped really harshly).
4. Operatives once high enough level will almost always be finished using gunfire instead of melee, because of the risk of Cortex bombs.
5. If there's an opportunity, enemies will often try to finish someone while they're reviving if they're close enough to see the syringe delivered.

Basically, they think things through the same way I do - if you're a Medic, and you're not backed up, expect to die. if you have support, there's a small chance they'll still target you if you're close to an objective, and if there's a group of downed teammate, expect to be the first to die.

That all contributes to making medics less and less important, and everyone has to spend the game sprinting to the objective again. A little slack from them would be nice.

It may make medics less important when it comes to reviving people, it just makes it that more important for medics to keep their teammates healthy and alive. Sure you don't get the same amount of experience, but your teammates don't spend valuable time laying on the ground. Basically, just wanna keep them off the ground in the first place to make sure you don't run the risk of them getting finished off.

Playing rank 4 or higher, I get stomped all the time. Unless the enemy that incapacitated me is actually put down by somebody else, he will charge unflinchingly through gunfire and right into the middle of a crowd of friendly bots, just to jump on my face. It's like every bots primary objective immediately switches "kill Super-Pangolin" when they incapacitate me, like they'll lose the match if they don't. The sad thing is, this has actually happened to me once when I was surrounded by about 5 friendly bots... he managed to get through and finish me off. Really says something about the AI of both sides, that a lot is messed up.
