The Volkihar Lair....Found?

Post » Tue Oct 11, 2011 4:19 am

For some time now, I've been wondering if the Volkihar would be making an appearance in Skyrim. When the concept art vid was released, I saw a quick glimpse of what could very well be a Volkihar vampire. Afterwards, I quickly searched the web for a map of Skyrim in a desperate attempt at trying to see where their location may be. I found a map with Skyrim's environmental geography mapped onto it (Canyon, Tundra, Volcanic, Fall Forest, Pine Forest, ect). I then re-read the book "Immortal Blood" and found this: "The next day, he did return with more questions, these ones very specific. He wanted to know about the vampires of eastern Skyrim. I told him about the most powerful tribe, the Volkihar, paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins. I explained to him how they lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes, never venturing into the world of men except to feed" -- [eastern Skyrim, lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes]. I first looked far east into Eastmarch and discovered that it contained Volcanic tundra...far too warm to have frozen lakes. [Scratch that off the list] I then went slightly north to Windhelm and decided that this would be the most likely area, but I couldn't pinpoint exactly WHERE the lakes would be. However, recently the english translation of the map has been 'leaked'...I took a look and saw a massive body of water named "Lake Jorgrim", east of White Shore. The lore as well as Skyrim's geography seems to point to this exact spot as the location of the Volkihar Lair. I wanted to see if anyone else came to the same conclusion?

Share your thoughts.

PS: I apologize if this has already been a posted topic...I also hope this thread doesnt become locked. In RARELY post anything up here and not exactly sure of the policy in terms of posting links.

I don't see how everyone is saying that map is the Skyrim map when it's obviously and horridly photoshopped. You can see the edges and squares where people have shopped various images together. Look at the "seems" of the map, they aren't seams at all, just shopped creases. The lines don't even match up.

Yeah it's going to get locked, but at this point and so close to release I really don't see why...
Anyways if Skyrim sticks to lore then you very well might have found the Volkihar Lair, nice work.

It's the official map, it just hasn't been officially released, the image is pasted together from, if I recall correctly, a set of playing cards given out at an expo.

Everybody know it's been shopped to put it together. (possibly scans)
Explain how this makes it fake.

Edit: Damn, I'm too slow.

Thanks...sorry to you all if I somehow violated the forum rules...I usually just read the threads, not post them. I hope this stays up long enough for people to atleast research my findings.

I never said it wasn't similar, but you don't know if this is what the map will actually look like, because you can't see all of it. Some guesswork has gone into the creation of this "official" map that's being thrown around these forums, and you have no proof otherwise.

Will the real probably look like something like this? Yeah, but that doesn't make it official.

Woah. Thanks for swooping in before I could... AGAIN :P

I just disagree with you complaining that it's not real when it matched the CE map and the one Todd showed on the wall.

Yeah, because just anyone could draw the map to look absolutely identical to that map (it's not similar, it's EXACTLY THE SAME, but in better focus), plus Luke Skyrimmer (user here) pasted together all the official images of parts of the map and it creates basically exactly what you see in the unofficial one, but a bit more blurred. If you still don't believe it's official, I have no hope for you.

You all can stop discussing the map leak and maybe discuss the OP's interesting opening post - which is cool speculation, with or without a link to a map. I would love it if the Volkihar were an enemy - love when they call out stuff like that, and Immortal Blood was one of my favorite ES books. :)

Thank you. I suggest reading the book "Immortal Blood" [can be looked up on TES UESP] In short, the Volkihar are a powerful clan of vampires that have an affinity for ice...their very grasp and bite can freeze their victims solid. They also have the ability to become translucent and phase through solid objects.

Sry man did my research
There's not enough info on the lore to support this
However it doesnt dismiss the location either

This is definately something we wont know about until the game releases
But if they were confirmed to be in
Then i think you would have hit the bird on the nose with this one

Considering the news we have on the Vampires in TES so far, I'd say it's highly unlikely that there are any Volkihari vampires at all.

If there are any however, it is likely they are ONLY introduced as an enemy, and not an affliction that you yourself can get.

Indeed. I admit that my speculation outweighs the amount of information the lore presents...I was basically going off of the "eastern Skyrim" comment from Immortal Blood and a photoshopped map off the internet. Though with the Volkihar concept art as well as the addition of Jorgrim Lake in easter Skyrim..it does raise some question. I also discovered that the map of Skyrim from Arena greatly varies from the current Skyrim map. During the times of Arena, Carthwastep was green and full of forests...now it seems to be barren and full of valleys. Also, the rest of the regions were mostly covered with snowy tundra...now it seems Skyrim's landscape is more diverse. Then again....a lot can change in 200+ years.
