The Walking Dead

Post » Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:34 pm

Just watched it on AMC's site. Thought it was really good, a bit tense (I got up and closed the curtains behind me before that scene in the stairwell, can't stand having my back to an open window at night while watching something creepy), and I really loved the atmosphere.

Hopes that AMC continues to put the episodes online, as I don't have AMC and want to continue watching. I was mildly surprised that I could even view it, considering I am not in the US and most sites block out-of-US addresses.

I can tell you now, this was no coincidence, it was on purpose. Whether they just wanted a fun reference to a popular movie, couldnt think up another way to start it out or w/e idk. But this wasn't a coincidence.

The beginning of any movie or show is very important and a lot of thought went into it. Being a zombie movie, you can bet the creators have seen 28 days later and others for ideas and dos and donts.

They also took some stuff from the Zombie Survival Guide and added it to the show. Things like "Gunshots attract more of them."

I actually really enjoyed the first episode. I can safely say I am a fan of the series.

I'm not much of a zombie person, but I LOVED the first episode. If they can keep it up, I think I've got another good series to watch. :)

Thats not so much from the zombie survival guide as it is just.....common sense. ;) Most zombie universes include this.

It means it looks as though it was shot like/has the feel of Romero's zombie movies. And it damned well was too. :D I was sitting saying to my boyfriend that I'd never seen something that emulated Romero so well without being an outright copy. Absolutely fantastic - I loved it. :D Could have been so cheesy but did it in quite a serious way. And the fact you didn't see very many zombies til the last ten minutes was genuis too. As was the scene with the 'dragging' zombie in the park.

Love it. Can't wait til next week.

It was just an example. And most zombie movies don't have "Loud noises attract zombies" on the scale this show does.

I just watched the first episode last night, seems like a cool show so far. I like how they are able to take things a bit slower and explore things a bit more when they aren't trying to cram the entire zombie apocalypse into a 2 hour movie. I'm interested to see where it goes from here.

....

:slap:

Anyway, I can't wait for the next episode. It's a nice way of taking something done to death and then giving it a bit more personality and charm than some random expendable movie characters.

It just trying to be more realistic. Most zombie movies are just all out action this on the other hand is more survival.

I was very sad about the horse. For some reason I get more emotional about animals dieing in films and programmes than I do about humans.

I don't think I've been more excited for a TV series to be on than when 24 was in it's prime.

The Walking Dead might just be the greatest zombie fiction out there. The entire premise of an ongoing Romero-esque zombie series is like a dream come true for those of us who love the classic "of the Dead" movies. I am not a fan of "new school" zombies that are fast-moving nerdragers like in 28 Days, or have superpowers like in L4D.

I'd like to point out that 28 Days Later doesn't actually have "zombies". Technically the infected people don't die, but just turn anyways so I don't see why people rage at 28 Days Later ruining zombies because I really don't think they are zombies in the traditional sense.

But yeah, I watched the first episode and plan on watching the 2nd tonight. Seems interesting enough so far, if only because its the only zombie television show I've ever seen

So, episode 2 is in the books. What did you all think? I was a bit on edge at the end, and I didn't expect the camouflage bit. That was interesting.

Spoiler
Merle, I think. And from the looks of the previews of the next episode, they're gonna go back for him.

So far I think my favorite character is either the cop or the asian kid. I have a feeling they'll be developing his character more as the show goes on.

Spoiler
Glenn was the Asian kid. Dixon was the redneck they left on the roof. But in the 3rd episode preview, it looks like Rick planned on going back. And Dixon's brother was pissed off they left him there on the roof.

Anyways, the episode was great once again. I liked the part where,

they honored the zorpse (Zombie-Corpse) before they cut it up.

That kid is awesome. Such a scrapper.

And I get the current set-up, but I hope the show is not overrun with new relational drama every week.

I wish black guy would have given racist guy the saw at least.

This and Breaking Bad had had me/have me. I stoped watching breaking bad a few episodes into the third season. Havent heard much of it since I stoped following it.

IGN's review of the second episode is up: http://tv.ign.com/articles/113/1132338p1.html

Seems like he had the same few issues with it as I did, though I would have given it a better rating. Also, he mentions at the end that he's already seen the third episode and it's a lot better than this last one, in his opinion. So I'm happy to hear that.

Also, http://tv.ign.com/articles/113/1133012p1.html :D :celebration:
