How much money do you think is floating around in the Capital Wasteland? And how high is your character in the ranks of the rich? I have around 15,000 caps and could get more, placing me at around the top 10 or 15 richest singular people in the Capital Wasteland.

It's very hard to say, it partly depends on the player. There's, what, 35 merchants plus the scavengers who hold between under a hundred to several hundred caps, then there's the caps to be looted. The merchants restock every day and get more caps, so the more you trade with them the more caps there are.

At any given moment, not including what the player holds, I'd be surprised if there was more than 50k caps floating about.

A previous character had well over 600K at one point. I limit myself to how much caps I have by playing a certain way, at later levels, you have all this cash but nothing to spend it on, especially with 100 in Repair. Since enemies respawn.... it should be infinite.

I upped my caps to 20,000, and could get much more if I were in the mood for grinding and the mechants actually had cash. Seriously, I've burnt through Moira Brown, Lucky Harith, and pretty much all of the Rivet City vendors' cash (except for Gary.) I could wait three days and sell more of my crap and I think I'll do that tomorrow. Edit: And I still have about 100 rockets and other ammo(s?) to sell.
