The water in the three part demo looks amazing.

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 12:02 am

I just downloaded the uncompressed HD three part quake con/E3 footage. It looks awesome, but the bit that blew me away was the fluidity and realistic physics and the look of the water in the part where the PC is in the cave and uses a staff to cast a light orb. When I first saw the 'first gameplay video' the water looked very iffy, but now watching this it looks fantastic. what do you think?

The water does look impressive, but water is the least of Bethesda's concerns for Skyrim.

I don't think the water was actually physics based, just an animation I think. It still looked amazing though.

I noticed the water flowing uphill, some (naive) people just dismissed it as 'giving the illusion that it's flowing up hill'. It's not an illusion, it WAS flowing uphill, will it affect gameplay? Not at all.

Lol you should see the games water animation on full settings, it almost looks better than real life

But Skyrim being a game not fully focused on water, it looks pretty good.

I've mentioned it to him multiple times, it must be self-worth issue, makes him feel important when his post is signed...

I really think that's just a mind-trick because of a games inability to actually create a true sense of depth perception. Regardless of how the graphics are presented, you're still always looking at a 2D plane drawn in 3D, which doesn't always translate in the human brain.

Anyway, I still have on big issue with the water in General, and I haven't seen a lot so maybe it is different now, or somewhere else, but the "Hard" Water edges bug me. Morrowind's MGE solve the issue with Shader 4.0 (I think?) for their water, making it actually roll over the pre-defined water's edge, though this created some issues in parts of the game where the land isn't far enough above the water line, and waves clip through the ground.

Still, it really sells the "Shoreline", which was a surprisingly big touch, especially in a game with so much water.

C'Mon, stop overhyping it. It is definitely not the best looking water ever.

Crysis
Napoleon: Total War
Red Dead Redemption

they're just a few examples of games in which the water looks way better than what we've seen so far from Skyrim, and I didn't even go into any detail.

I just wish Argonians received "Water vision" along with their water breathing. It kinda svcks that such a vast area of Oblivion was basically useless, and that the only race that could really use it also was gimped by it like everybody else. Argonians should be able to see clearly through the water, almost like they're in the Caribbean. The water quality in TES should be much clearer than modern day, as at the time there were no offshore oil rigs dumping waste, shipwrecks dumping mass amounts of oil and particle matter clouding up the water, etc.

Just a thought.

Skyrim has the best water any game has ever had, Oblivion now has the second best water after Skyrim, Morrowind is the 3rd best. No game could ever rival TES.
You can't argue with these opinions, all other games are mediocre compared to Skyrim!
