What's the best camera mod, in your opinion? Third person, first person, whatever.

I like Chase Camera a lot. I play in third-person when playing thief-type characters or archers (Darn UI with third-person crosshair helps) and Chase Camera makes it enjoyable, not just bearable.

I also use Chase Camera Mod. I only play in third person and it's a must-have for me.

I also use Chase Camera Mod and I play in third person me too. The only thing that bored me is every time I touch the scroll of the mouse or every time I mount a horse the distance of view changes and I have to place the camera again in the right distance. Is there a fix for this?

Im thinking in Gears of War camera mod. Do you need chase camera mod with that?

I just found the little gem of a mod the other day...
A better alternative to the Gears Of War Camera mod.

Ultimate 3rd Person Camera!

Scripting seems more solid. I don't notice the strange bugs that the GOW camera had occasionally.
Plus it has more modular options such as a few different crosshairs, and an invisible crosshair.
There are options to choose to see the 3rd person view from up close and further back and you can also choose your character to be on the left or right side of the screen depending which hand you would consider your dominant. And lastly, you can actually converse with NPCs and use the persuasion tool without the need to change anything else. The flgfocus is already set to 20.

EDIT - There are also many additional modular options for some animation overhauls such as
Unnecessary Violence.

No prob, however, I just tried the far 3rd person view versions and they are still needing work. The author mentioned it in the readme, so hopefully this will be worked out in the next release. The fdlgfocus is set to 20 but I change it to 7.5 so that I can see the faces a bit clearer when using persuasion wheel. It's cool too because you can place the 3rd person view so that character is on the right side of the screen so not to block the persuasion wheel.

I have installed it and I love it! The only thing I dont like too much is the big yellow icon in the middle. I have tried to install the smaller one but somehow textures replacements never work well for me (I dont know if this is something with that "invalidation thing", but I dont understand at all).

I haven't tried any extra crosshair mods yet, but try doing a search for crosshair in TESNEXUS and try replacing the current.

Is easier than that. There is a folder called BONUSES or something like that. Inside is another folder called INVISIBLE CROSSHAIR with a file you have to put in the right place and voil?, supercamera mod with the old crosshair (The default crosshair reminds me more to "Ghost Recon"). This is really a great unknow mod. Thank you very much! You have improved my game. :foodndrink:

I play in First Person, as I don't have a need to check out my characters butt all the time. I live in a First Person view, so why not immerse oneself in a First Person view when immersed in a fantasy world?

Is just what do you like best. You will be immersed also in 3 person. Is another type of immersion, as if you watch a good film. I really cant explain you why, but I feel better playing in first person with "shooter games" like Ghost Recon or Call of Duty but I cant with "swords games". Is strange, I admit...

Looking at my characters butt all the time was my motivation for using the 3rd person view. :P

Seriously though IMO, when using Deadly Reflexes, finishing moves are way better at the angle of this U3P or GOW mod.
You get to see the full body movement of your character preparing for that finishing move. The build up is much better during the slow mo.
I combined it with MAO and DMC and it's unbelievable what it has done for my battles! I agree with what desertor said about it feeling more like a movie.
I was a first person guy up until trying this mod with DR. Now I don't think I can go back.

I agree that in such instances switching to Third Person View is cool, but when I'm sneaking around and exploring it feels silly to view the world from a godlike angle and see things my character is not supposed to see.

I agree with you there. ;) It's a shame we can't have the best of both worlds... Or can we?

Can anyone please figure out how to allow 1st person and sidestep 3rd person camera perspectives to work in game? IF I had both of those I could do without the pulled back centered 3rd person cam. This sounds like a feature maybe OBSE could conquer?

With a little extra hard work, yes you can ;)

What I would really like to see though, is a camera that doesn't FREEZE your surroundings when a player is talking to somebody. I mean, the dozens of NPCs around you are now bunch of statues? The wind stop blowing, the water stop moving, and you can have a conversation for 30 minutes digging a lot of information as if nothing happening around??? This is hardly immersive...

I was hoping someone would modify the way conversation view work in Oblivion like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1lEFuuQMXA or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BWnNG9XZ1w but...none.

...why not immerse oneself in a First Person view ...

What is immersive to you is not necessarily immersive to me, or anybody else.

I can'tt play in 1st person. If I try to fight in 1st person, I die. If I try to move around in 1st person, I walk off cliffs and into furniture.

I generally play characters that are very different from me. So seeing that character on the screen reminds me to not play as myself (which is not roleplaying as far as I'm concerned).

Playing in 3rd person also matches the style of roleplaying I do. I do not inhabit my character's body. I am a kind of 'presence' hovering over the character I'm roleplaying. We're a party of two, my character and I.

In addition to all that I don't like having to look at the hands of my character holding a weapon directly in front of them, at arm's length, in 1st person. I can't imagine running that way, it looks awkward to me. I also don't like having to look at a crosshair everywhere I turn. It breaks my immersion to have to constantly turn it off and it breaks my immersion to have it turned on.

That's the game engine's doing, not the poor camera's. Gametime doesn't pass when in menus.
