The Weston Chronicles

I like that you've added a lot more imagery and the 50's lingo gives it a unique flair. Curious why anyone would allow them self to be called "Pelvis" though.

Two pointers I'd give:

(1) Cut out the size descriptions: he was x inches in the chest, x in the calf, x in the neck - too longwinded - I can't picture those things. Use a simile - "he looked like a bighorner with barrel chest and a face meaner than any deathclaw."

(2) I'd think Alan wouldn't feel safe in his new position knowing that Castle is still alive. He just ran away right? Alan acted liked he was gone forever.

Otherwise, these improve with each installment. Kinda picture this like a stylized comic in my head - whirling canes and Tommy Gun guitars.

Keep it up. Oh yeah, its "K-Bar" not "Ka-Bar."

Stay classy.

EDIT: I'm wrong. It is KA-BAR. Man that looks weird written out though. . .

I was just reading a bit in the beginning and honestly I think it's good so far. My only complaints, or, recommendations is that there needs to be some minor tweaking on the grammar and punctuation. Other than that the only other problem I had was that the dialog between the two brothers seemed artificial and overly emotional despite the current situation. It just didn't seem like what a 10 year old or 12 year old would say. Otherwise I'm enjoying it so far and will continue on. :)

@ Sentient: Yea, I wanted Castle to have that body builder because he needed that sense if overpowering that I wanted to portray. He has a trustworty demeanor, face wise. Think Arnold Swarcheneger in his prime, just a couple inches bigger, and taller. As for Pelvis, only Priscilla called him such names because of their intimacy, only she can get away with calling him such things. He acted like that because he figures if all his controls are gone, that gave him that omniscient power, why would he come back? And as for KA-BAR you challenge a military man about his military knowledge :P

@ Enclave: Thank you. I wanted them to be a lil more mature cause there "like" farm kids, rich in character. Hope you read and enjoy the rest.

WC Episode 7

Been Watching You...

A few hours have passed and the brothers are being watched by the always loyal man in the moon. The siblings organize their gear beside the roaring fire. Sean picks up the cloth covered book. He removes the cloth and holds the tome to his face. He smells the sweetness of life and breath within it. The believer kisses the Word out of reverence, then wipes the cover with his right hand.

Jack cuts some meat off the well done lakelurk, with anger on his face. He devours the slice and gets back to work. The former corporal looks up and sees his brother reading the big book. He commences with packing his gear orderly into his satchel. As he finishes, Sean also closes the book and packs everything away. Jack gravely shakes his head, "I don't know."

Sean looks up, "You doin' okay?"

"Ya know what, I'm not," he quickly stands, "Why do we have to go after this guy? What could we possibly do to bring him down? He surpasses us in all areas, and even together we didn't stand muchuva chance. What do we do Sean, I mean, damn it! He's a beast, he tossed us like a couple little boys takin' on the playground bully!"

Sean lowers his head in dismay. He looks back up with hope, "Have faith little brother. God is with us, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us."

Jack puts his hands up in frustration, "Right, like we could overcome that devil in disguise back there!"

Sean gets up. He runs his fingers through his hair in exhaustion, "He's just a man brother, for the dust we are, into dust we shall return. He is a man, and an evil one at that. No one else can take him on Jack, we have to as our duty."

"Duty?! DUTY?! Are you serious right now?! Dust we are, dust we shall return, ooooh!"

Sean stands and strikes up a hand in warning, "Hey! Watch yourself."

"Yeah, well I ain't dust. I am flesh and bone, and Castle seems to me much more than just any man. He got shot at and he didn't even get touched. Not a bullet even came close to nicking him. We couldn't touch him. No, make that three men and a magazine of rounds couldn't even split a thread in his white suit. The only reason he left is because he wouldn't have complete power over all his subordinates. I bet you he still has his Ad-Mez. That tiny little thing could fit in his pockets. Sean, I don't see it, I just don't see it," the little brother angrily sighs, "I'm going to scout." He raises his hands like he gives up, and walks away.

"Jack! Jack, you have to trust me!" He watches as Jack walks into the darkness. He sits down and strokes his fingers through his hair, "Gah Dangit!" Sean puts his hands down and looks into the fire with longing.

Ten minutes pass and his brother hasn't returned. Sean sits on a large rock, alone, beside the campfire. He puts his head betweens his arms. "You know Sean, he will come around to understand." Sean looks up to see where the strange voice is coming from. He sees an old presumably caucasian man of healthy weight, appearing in his early seventies. With a grey mustache that connects to a majestic beard. The beard is pinched at his sternum and fans out to his lower abdomen area. He has long grey hair, and wise eyes. His windows resemble that of a caring grandfather. The mystery man wears a white long sleeve shirt, and snow white slacks, but no footwear.

Sean strains to look at him because of a faint glow radiating off the man. He feels a tinge of fear, but also, a sense of overwhelming safety and respect pervading his soul. Sean watches the old man slowly walk around the fire.

The old man looks over to him with his hands clasped behind his back, "I've been watching you very closely Sean Weston; Taurus Aurelius; The Bull; Fire Warrior. What you did back at Broken Heart Hotel was a good thing on your part, and your brother's. You have to forgive him Sean, he is young, much younger than you I must say. Jack Weston; The Quiet One; The Crack Shot. You must speak with your brother Sean. For you two to become strong enough to take down the evil residing in New Sin City, you must become closer. Give your brother the living word Young Aurelius. It will guide him to the adherence he unknowingly seeks, and needs. You, my boy, already have this trait, and more. Lead him Sean, just as Aegidius did you."

Sean is extremely confused by the strangers omniscience. He looks back to see if Jack is approaching, but he only sees darkness. Sean looks back towards the fire and his sight is void of being.

A mile away, Jack is on patrol. The guilt is rushing through him like a lousy one night stand. He is flustered and it shows. Sean means good, but why am I so scared? Jack pulls his palm across his crew cut. At his rear he hears scaled feet pitter patter quickly in his direction. Jack rips his mother's magnum from his holster and turns chest around. The Crack Shot sees two baby golden geckos, and two golden gecko hunters. With his chest only turned toward the reptiles he pops three shots. All four assailants go down.

Sean stands in the heat of the night. He looks northwest, where the three shots are echoed. The Fire Warrior pulls Redemption from it's sheath. The grind of the sword from scabbard lacerates the air. He stands in worry for his brother. The elder brother stands attentive and waits with anxiety for his brother.

Fifteen minutes pass and Sean hears something being dragged through the sand. He looks to his right and sees his brother pulling a golden gecko hunter. A heavy weight lifts from Sean's shoulders, "You had me worried sick. Uh, I thought I heard three shots, why is there only one? I know your a better shot then that."

Jack pulls the body into the camp. He gives a curious look to his brother, "You look like you've seen a ghost."

Sean waves it off like nothing, "Ah, I was just worried something happened to you."

"Huh, well back to your question. As you know i got mother's firearm twitch. There were four geckos, shot one through the other. Only brought the gecko cause I thought I could teach you a lil something, we could maybe some brother time. It's a little skill I picked up from the service." He drops the ropes to the ground. "Listen, uh, I'm sorry about how I acted earlier. I don't know how you can be so optimistic about this venture of ours, but I know you mean good by it though."

Jack sits down on an ancient log, Sean joins him. The red head pulls the Word from his satchel, "You need this, here take it."

Jack looks Sean in the eyes, he looks down to the tome, "No, I can't take this Sean, it's means so much to you."

"Yes it does mean much to me, but it would mean even more if you accept it as the gift I'm giving you."

Jack gives an uneasy smile, "Ok, uh, thanks."

Sean watches as Jack takes a hold of it, "Learn it; know it; love it; live it. Now I will take care of this gecko."

Jack removes the cloth and looks at the cross on the cover. He moves his finger over the cross with curiosity. The younger brother respectfully covers the tome and places it into his satchel.

Sean is skinning the hunter as his brother inspects the tome. He skins as he was taught many years ago by his mentor.

Jack kneels over to the lizard, "Thank you again, now let me show you a skill I picked up in the service. Now to be completely honest we can't do this all in one night. It takes a little more than ten hours. To make jerky, first we have to cut all the fat off the meat. Fat is more difficult to dry and may contain moisture which'll cause the meat to spoil." Sean listens carefully as his brother teaches him.

The two brothers spend the next half an hour preparing the gecko. They separate the two piles; fat in sand and meat on cloth. Jack takes a seat next to his brother, "We would need to cut these large pieces we have in to small strips. Next we'd marinate it in salt, then roll them in herbs. Overnight we'd have to store the strips in a cool dry place. Since we don't have a fridge, thankfully it's the desert we live in. Now herbs can be jalape?o pepper or anything you find suitable. Since we'd marinade it in salt it would cure it, thus making the chances of it spoiling considerably less, dig?"

Sean nods, "Yes, thanks for this info, I remember we'd just kill a molerat and roast it heheh."

Jack gives a small smile, "Yeah, well when we had time, one of us would nab to herbs from the pantry and make some. We had a tough time dodgin' the C.O.'s questions but when he found out he'd be like, 'Weston, gimme some of that damn fine jerky ya made.'" The two brothers crack up laughing at this impersonation. "Haha, well, where do we go from here?"

Sean's smile fades at this question, "Vegas, and you were right. The only reason he left the hotel was because he wouldn't have dominance, which is why Alan was so comfortable with becoming top cat. That boss man is all about power, he could gain complete omniscient control over a huge, vast area, from the Strip most likely."

"Yea, and he knows more about computers than I. If there is a control terminal somewhere there he can most likely hack into it, unleashing a world of pain."

Sean shakes his head, "We can't let that happen." The Bull stares into the fire with the thoughts of Castle's plans flooding his mind. He smells the aroma of the gecko, "Let's get rid of this meat, we don't need to be leadin' varmints to us." The two brothers get to work cleaning the mess they've made.

Several minutes later they get back to camp. The strange scene that occurred earlier with the omniscient stranger still haunts his mind. Sean looks over to Jack with curiosity, "So, if you want to, tell me what happened to you after the split."

Jack thinks for a moment on whether or not to open up. Momentarily, he closes his eyes as he drifts into memory, "Well, I ended up being adopted by Sergeant Seth McGee and Corporal Shannon Levees. They took me in and did their best to raise me. Both reminded me of Mom and Dad quite a bit. I studied everyday, learned how to stitch a laceration; how to splint a bone; CPR; take a weapon apart and clean it thoroughly; and how to navigate with the stars. I learned all that and a lot more before I joined the army to become a medic, like Shannon. I was able to do that because they were given orders back to the NCR capital after being in the Mojave for four years. While in I saved some lives, lost some. Led my platoon through basic, both in the class and on the range. Ended up leading the company in both those fields. That is how I got the nickname 'The Crack Shot.' Met a girl at MOS school, obviously, she was training to be a medic. Started talking, talking a lot, spending time together, ended up in each others racks eventually. She had skin as soft as our mothers, and blonde hair that shined like the sun. We ended up being stationed together in the Mojave. One day she went out for some routine patrol..." Jack looks down, "But she didn't come back. Took leave to help get over that, and went back to Shady Springs. Talked to Seth and Shannon. I toldem that if I saw you in the culmination of the war, they might not see me again. They were a little flustered, but they came round. They knew if they didn't see me I'd either be M.I.A., for an understandable reason, or K.I.A. Considering how the battle played out it doesn't much matter. Got back here and was promoted bout a month before the battle. You know the rest. So what did you go through?"

Sean smiles and shakes his head, "Ah, one ten year story a night ok brother? I think it's time we get some sleep, dig?"

"Nah, I think I'm gonna read, and than pile up zs." He pulls out the Bible, Sean nods and lies down on his back and rests his head against a small rock. He drifts off to dreamland amidst the reading of verses and parables.

A heavy wind rolls some paper along the sidewalk. An echo of glass shattered is heard in the distance. Motors and gears inside the machine grind, and the stereo system blares the music of Radio New Vegas. A rather large man stands before a Mrk II securitron. "C-Z-7-... 6-3-4-5-7-8-9..." The man looks across to the screen waiting attentively.

The securitron complies, "You are free to enter the strip, enjoy your stay."

"Strange, but ok..." He grins as he enters the warm glow of the neon lights.

Alright, I'm going to post a complete addition of Brothers. This is for those who haven't read brothers and can do with a hefty, challenging read. I must warn you, it is quite lengthy, reaching 11,700 words. It is a tad different, with more detail in some parts, a bit of diction change. I do hope that it is enjoyable and that some do read it.

Brothers - Complete Edition

---

Part 1

The Promise
Five years before the the first Battle of Hoover Dam. A quiet, calm exists in the mystic Mojave. A family lives and loves in a humble home, the parents are two hardworking people dependent of only each other.

One unfortunate afternoon though, something happens that is quite unexpected. A group of men approaching from the back dressed in an assortment of random garb that look like a tunic approach the house from afar. The father looks and stands there cleaning his hands with his rag watching the men approach.

A knock is heard at the door and the mother checks to see who it is, a group of five soldiers stand there and introduce themselves as the NCR. The mother is a bit curious but not too worried, they don't look as though they are too bad a people. The senior enlisted officer informs her that her own has is apart of NCR territory now and asks if they would join the NCR. The mother giggles a bit and calls her husband toward the door. The man of the house is focused on the now running men toward them.

The five strangely dressed men continue to sprint toward the home. The father sees that they are armed and look dangerous. He informs his wife and she moves toward the children to get them safe.

The superior NCR tells a Private to see what the ruckus is all about. The Private quickly moves around the house to see what the disturbance is and sees the four legionaries and a Veteran legionnaire. He returns to his Sergeant and tells him of the news.

Inside, the mother is moving her two children, Sean of 12 years old, and Jack of 10 years. In the master bedroom she tells her two children one last time that their father and she will love them always. As she leaves the room she locks the door from the inside.

Sean tells Jack with worry in his voice, "it's going to be ok, Mom and Dad will take care of this." The sun shines down on his hair of fire and shows the multi red; orange; and blonde locks like the Sun itself. He looks back at Jack and as they look at each other the worst scream in the world pervades their ears. The two hear their father scream their mother's name. A groan soon leaves his gullet. The sound of bullets fill the air as NCR fire upon their parents killers. A growl and shreak of pain join the noise.

Sean turns to his brother who has tears of fear rolling down his face. The eldest is sad and scared but he whispers to his brother, "I'm going to... I'm gonna go see Mom and Dad, you stay here and be quiet. Those men might take me, and the others will probably take you, I promise not to never harm you, do you promise?"

Jack whispers a cry, "Yes, I promise to never hurt you. I promise to not forget you. I love you."

Sean frowns as be hugs his brother one last time, "I will never forget you little brother, I love you." Sean walks over to the door and waves his brother goodbye. As Sean walks out the door he locks it.

The Drafting
Sean sees his father over his mother, both deceased. Over near the front, soldiers and legionnaires fight in hand to hand combat outside the front door.

The legionnaires and NCR soldiers are evenly matched even though it's four on five. One of the soldiers sees past a legionnaire to see Sean near the table, where his parents lay dead. Standing at the back door, the Veteran walks up to Sean, "Boy, your parents fought bravely, but they are no match for us. How hold are you? 11? 12? You would make a good recruit, you are coming with me." Sean shakes his head no, and as the Veteran grabs his shoulder he pushes the arm away "Oh, haha, you have some fight in you, good, you will need it."

The Veteran whistles and the legionnaires immediately fall back. "Grab the boy, he will be trained in our ways."

The Veterans second in command replies, "Yes sir, shall I restrain him and throw him over the shoulders, or drag him?"

"Do not drag the boy, restrain him though, make it tight, he's a fighter this one." the veteran walks out quickly followed by the two others that are still standing.

The second in command wrestles Sean down, who fights back like a rabid wolverine. The Legionnaire gets tired of the nuisance and swiftly knocks him out. He wraps the ropes around him and carries him away.

Outside the house, the NCR tend to their wounded. The Sergeant looks up to see a relatively empty dining room. The only people remaining is the boy's parents. The little redhead is gone, taken into the arms of the very people who killed his parents.

"Sergeant McGee, Pvt Simpson's chest wound isn't as bad as originally expected, but I need to get him back to base if I am going to be able to help him any further," the female medic informs him, "As for Pvt Johansson's laceration on her arm, she will need several stitches but I was able to tourniquet above the wound. We need to get back to base soon though."

Sergeant McGee shook his head in understanding. He walks over to the door where he saw the redhead originally. Sgt McGee grabs the knob and turns it, but it doesn't budge. The Sgt moves close to the door to listen. What he hears is the whimpering of a small child, possibly boy. He speaks through the door, "Cover your ears and shield your eyes I'm going to kick open the door."

In the room the little brother with Mahogany hair does is told. He places his head between his knees and covers his ears. The Sgt bellows from a foot outside the door, "Prepare yourself." He swings his leg up and pushes forward. The door cracks opens, and a 6'3" giant of a man, with an m-16 A2 service rifle with with RCO on his back.

Sgt McGee walks toward Jack and takes a knee, "Hello there son, what's your name?"

The man's voice is like that of a faithful mentor, but Jack is shy. He doesn't say as tears are still rolling down his face.

Sgt nods in understanding, "I see, well I saw that Mail box out front, it read Weston, is that your families' name?"

Jack looks at him and nods yes.

"Was that your brother I saw earlier?" McGee asks in a concerned voice.

Jack continues to cry and nods yes.

"I'm incredibly sorry, your brother has been recruited by the new enemy of us, the New California Republic. We believe the enemy is a group called Caesar's Legion." Sgt sits down next to Jack, "They are a very powerful and enraged foe. Our toughest enemy yet. Enough of that though, why don't we get you out of here?"

Jack shakes his head no while placing his head in his arms.

"Okay, would giving your parents a proper funeral be okay with you?" Sgt looks over and waits for a no, but Jack looks up and slowly nods yes. McGee stands up and holds out his hand to Jack, who hesitantly grasps it.

The two walk out of the room, and Jack goes over to his fallen parents who lie in a puddle of blood. The young boy falls on both of them and holds them one last time.

Sgt leaves the boy where he sits and walks over to the Medic, Corporal Levees. Sgt begins to speak, "This is going to be awhile Corporal, will you and Private O'Neill be able to help walk Private Johansson and Simpson back to base?"

She replies, "Yes Sergeant, once there we will take care of the two soldiers. After, I see that we will have a new mate with us, I will set up living quarters for him."

"Good thinking Corporal, before we leave I will get a few things for him. Lord knows he will need it, it's a pity really. You four go on ahead, young Weston and I will be there before the morning. When he is ready we will educate him with to the best of our ability, train him, provide for him. Corporal, we are the closest thing he will have to family, and we must be family. I do believe he will not speak for quite some time, so don't rush him. After the you have completed your tasks, put out an encampment wide memo that we will have someone new with us, and he is my responsibility. I will talk to the C.O. and get it taken care of on that end. Dismissed."

The Corporal and Private begin their trek back to base.

The Funeral
Sgt. McGee walks briskly back inside, takes a knee and places his hand on Jack's back. "Son, when you are ready, we will prep for their funeral."

Jack, sits up as tears and snot continue to run from his eyes and nose. He nods that it will begin, he points towards the back door and Sgt McGee steps toward the threshold. He looks to his right, nothing, to his left and he sees a shed. He walks over and inside on the wall rests a shovel. He grabs it continues over to a suitable resting place.

The Sergeant begins to dig. He continues to dig until the resting place is suitable for the parents. He walks over to Jack and asks, "Are you ready?" the boy slowly nods yes. He stands up and Sgt walks over to the body of the father. He picks him up and carries the father in his arms and places the father in his tomb. He does the same for the boy's mother.

Sgt goes back inside and grabs two blankets to cover the parents. McGee then continues to place the soil over the parents. When finished he looks over to the boy and asks, "What are their names?"

Jack sits and writes Emily J., and to the right of it Jackson S., and Sean D. as his brothers name. The boy knows it'll be needed. He then writes Jack and points down toward himself.

McGee nods yes and begins the eulogy, "Jackson S. And Emily J. Weston. Two wonderful and loving parents. Father and mother to Sean D.; and Jack Weston. Brave and courageous, dying while defending the ones they love. I didn't know them very long but I could see the strength in their eyes from the moment we met. From what I saw of them they lived by three words: Love; Valor; Commitment. Never have I met a better people. May you rest in peace."

The two bow their heads in sadness and respect, Jack cries and McGee comforts him.

"Is there anything you would wish to take with you?" Sgt McGee asks Jack. The boy nods yes.

The two walk inside and Jack grabs his mothers magnum; his fathers ka-bar; a small little trinket that is a family heirloom. Upon the top of the heirloom sits a majestic bird sitting on the world with a mud hook through it. The boy holds it close to his chest as he thinks of his father. One last thing he grabs is a small family portrait painted by his mother with love. These items were placed in Sgt McGee's satchel for safe journey to base camp.

Part 2

The Naming
Sean lay over the Legionnaire's shoulder. He felt the midnight wind caress his face, it feels like his mother's hand soft hand. He keeps his eyes closed as he hears the Veteran's voice destroy the peaceful calm.

"Men, do you remember your naming? What it means to receive your legion title? I remember, I was above the age of acceptance, but I pledged my loyalty to the Caesar himself. I have realized what the boy's legion title will be. He will become a member of my lineage, thus receiving my surname. His title will he Taurus Aurelius. He will take some time to break, but when he joins us he will be a great warrior," he finishes speaking.

The party continues to march on in the dead cool of the night. Sean drifts back off to the dreamland, where prisoners can be free men, and boys can climb over the highest peak, or jump the most vast canyons.

The Legion Outpost
Is morning when the boy awakens unbound within a very large tent. Sean lies there for a minute, then a man he barely recognized without helm enters. He has a gruff face and long snow blonde hair. He stands at 6'4" and is built with layers of lean muscle from all the walking done in his life.

The Veteran approaches Sean and addresses him, "Bout time boy, I was beginning to believe Tarsus had killed you. Look at me, you are now a slave. If you prove yourself you will live, if not you will die. Every order I tell you, you do. If I tell you to jump, you jump; if I tell you to sit, you sit; if I tell you to slit your throat, you slit your throat."

Sean is attentive yet boiling with anger. The Veteran continues his speech, "My name is Veteran Aegidius Aurelius. I'm an officer in Caesar's Legion. My wife is a priestess and while your not training you will be learning. If you ever give her any trouble I will break you further. Get up and get changed into that garb, you will wear it until your either dead, or have earned the right to wear your horns." Aegidius leaves the tent and awaits Sean.

Sean looks at the slave garb which bears an x on it's chest. Sean ponders putting the slave shirt on. He runs through his options: he could try to run, and probably be killed; he can sneak his way out, and probably be killed; or he can go along with Aegidius and use the memories of his family as his driving force. This way he might eventually be able to return to his brother. Sean puts on the slave garb and reluctantly walks out of the tent.

The Breaking
Sean looks around to see legionnaires on patrol; a multitude of tents; and crimson flags with gold bulls on each side. To his right stands Aegidius. His arms are crossed and the Mojave wind moves his hair to make it seem like the knife of a dry winter wind.

"Boy, walk with me," Aegidius orders him. They walk down the street of the camp over to a cage. Nothing is inside except a totem-like walking stick resting against the chains of the cage. Aegidius Aurelius opens the door of the cage and beckons Sean toward him. The boy shakes his head no and backs away.

Behind the boy stands Tarsus, who is waiting for the boy to back into him. Sean does, and so Tarsus grabs him by the rear and neck of his garb and tosses the slave into the pin.

The Veteran addresses his student; "That'll do Tarsus, if I need your assistance you will know. Now, as for you slave, your about to have quite a time." Aegidius walks over to the angry boy and orders, "Stay down boy, your going to do as I say you got that?"

Sean looks up at Aegidius with the eyes of a bull seeing red. He grinds his head left and right.

Aegidius chuckles at this, "Hahaha, boy you should listen the first time and do as I say." Aegidius takes his totem in hand and swings into the slave's ribs hard enough to only bruise. "Are you going to continue this dead in road?"

The boy of fire doesn't reply, instead he slowly gets to gets to his knees. As the boy staggers to his feet, Aegidius swings the totem behind the slave and takes his feet out from beneath him. While the boy is in mid-air he swings the totem down on the boy's chest driving him to the ground. The boy loses his breath and gasps for air.

"Are you done with this foolish nonsense? Or do I have to weaken you further? The more I weaken you; the more strength you will lose; the more tiresome I will grow; and the more time you will waste. Now I will repeat myself, are you done?" The Veteran looks to the red faced boy who is slowly moving to his stomach.

As the boy is trying to get up he speaks for the first time since his his parents' death, " Why did you kill them?"

"Haha, he speaks! Simple enough question really, because your parents became dissolutes once consorting with the enemy. Upon consorting with the enemy death can be issued. Since your parents also decided to fight back they became profligates. I can't have that. Your not going to trust me for quite awhile, but try to listen when I say this, death was better for them then the other option?"

Sean is staring into the sea blue eyes of his parents' assailant while responding, " What was the other option? At least they'd be alive, right?"

The smile of enjoyment left the Veteran with his reply, "Yes they'd be alive, but would you want to see your mother as a slave? Called into another legionnaire's chambers? See her carrying around back-breaking packs? Would you want that for your mother? That would be selfish, do you realize this?"

The boy looked down at the ground in guilt, "What would have happened to my dad?"

"Possibly worse, or better, depending how you look at it. He would have been starved; beaten; then placed on a cross. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want that for my father even though we didn't see eye to eye." The Veteran could see the stubbornness of the boy waining. "Are you ready to begin training?"

The boy looks at his new Master and nodded without any emotion, yes.

The Training
"Good, I was starting to think this was going to take days. Alright now, do you know what an up-down is?" He stood watching his new student respond with a no nod. "I will show you, what you do is run in place, and upon my signal of front or back you fall to your chest and push up, or fall to your back and get up. While running you keep your knees as high as my totem, do you understand?"

Sean looks at the Veteran and nods yes.

"Okay, you will do this until I say stop, begin." The Veteran commences with training his new student. "Front; push up; high knees-high knees-high knees; back." The Veteran continued this until the boy collapses from exhaustion. This takes an hour and a half.

The boy is so exhausted that he cannot get up.

"Good, if you can't get up that means your working hard. Alright, time to call it a day. Your not going to sleep there though." After saying this, Aegidius grabs a hold of Sean around he waste and carries him back to his quarters. The boy is so tired that under Aegidius' arm he resembles a sack of potatoes. Aegidius reaches his tent and throws the boy onto his sleeping mat.

The Veteran addresses his student, "When you awaken we will continue your training. You will eat prior to this though because not much can be done on an empty tank. Now sleep." The Veteran leaves the tent and commences with his other errands.

The NCR Outpost
"Major, the boy's parent's are dead, and his brother was captured by the legion. He needs someone to care for him, and if we beat discipline into him he is not going to trust us very well, ever. I ask you, Major, please let the Corporal and I teach him of our ways and tutor him as needed."

The Major looks through the window of his tent at the boy who is walking with Corporal Levees. The Major responds, "I've thought about it, and as you have requested, you will take full responsibility for him. You will feed him, attend to his needs. Corporal Levees can mother him as need be. If he ever steps out of line it's your toes that take the cutting. I will fill out the forms for you to begin receiving payment for the child. I will let upper management know as well. As for tutoring, you and Corporal Levees can letter the Followers to see if they can send books. I know you both spent time together with them, so you two can handle them. Sergeant McGee, you know what caring for him entails and I'm not going to insult your intelligence by explaining it to you. I know you and Shannon are married and have tried to have a child, maybe this is God's way of saying yes. I know you two are fully capable. Dismissed."

Sergeant pops to the PoA and salutes his C.O. He then leaves the Major's tent and walks over to his wife. He speaks to her with a smile "Corporal, Major Glenn okayed it, Jack is ours."

Corporal Shannon Levees beams back and the kneels down to Jack, "You hear that? The C.O. is allowing us to take care of you! We will help you get through this. It'll be okay." Shannon hugs her new adopted child.

Jack doesn't smile though, which slightly lowers the morale of the other two.

McGee kneels down beside his wife and speaks to Jack, "It's ok, you take all the time you need. We will be here for you, if you ever need anything you just tell us." McGee and Levees stand and begin walking, Jack walks with them"

"Now let's go show you your quarters." The threesome continues walking and the reach a small 10' x 10' tent. Inside rests a twin size bed; a desk; and a lantern. Sgt. McGee reaches into his satchel an places the family portrait onto the desk, along with the ka-bar; magnum; and family heirloom.

Corporal speaks, "it's not much, but some don't even get a desk. We have some paperwork to fill out. The two of us will come by later. If you need anything come get us, we will be in Admin." She pulls out a map of camp and places it on the desk. "Your tent is here, and Admin is here, that's where we work when we aren't patrolling the Mojave. Our tent is over here." She points to them in order. Jack simply nods yes in understanding.

"We will see you later today then. Does lunch sound good?" Sgt. asks Jack. He simply nods yes, then sits on his new bed. "Sounds good, we will be by to get you around lunch." The two soldiers leave the tent together.

Jacks lies down on the bed and curls up into a ball. While lying there in his sadness, he falls asleep with tears rolling down his cheek.

Part 3

The Silver Lining
Within the black walled chain leak fence of the cage is the slave, doing push-ups. The Veteran is pacing around. Aegidius is barking orders, "Higher, don't touch the deck. Tuck those elbows in, up, run in place, high knees, higher. Keep running, are you getting slower? Ha, don't you dare, faster."

Sean continues to run in place. The sweat is forming on and in the slave shirt which makes it feel like a trash bag. His master continues to pace in front of him.

He turns to his slave and begins to lecture, "Boy, I'm an educated man, before the legion, I spent my fair share in the Apocalypse. During my studies I read of a man that many believed as God. He travelled the land and recruited many as his followers. During his travels he did many a great deed. Many viewed him as the God-King. Then he died, strangely enough though, he came back. Now why do I bring this up? - high knees - Well everyone in the Legion know that I believe Caesar as the God-King. Oh, of course, I would fight for to the death. But between you and me-" Aegidius leans in close to Sean and speaks in a volume only the two of them can hear, "I am much more keen in the art of deception then they will ever realize. I will teach you how to become so close that you become invisible. Even if you are right on the tip of his nose." Aegidius leans away and continues to bark orders.

Sean continues to do as ordered. The previous lecture is still processing through his head. The boy wonders if he can even remotely ever trust this killer. He continues to multitask as he high knees onward.

The Naming Ceremony
Months pass, the 12 year old slave has honed his body; body; and skills. He is now 13 years of age. Sean has been taught how to fight; survive; the ranks of the Legion; how to act within the legion; how to speak to superiors; how to speak to equals; been given "the talk"; and from his master received basic knowledge on the art of deception. Today is the ceremony he and other boys have been waiting for, they are now receiving their legion titles.

He is the last slave to be promoted. He is approached by the Decanus who speaks, "Who is your master? Who will be promoting you?"

Sean stares forward and speaks, "Veteran Aegidius Aurelius is my master."

The Decanus turns toward the Veteran and speaks, "He is yours Veteran, continue."

"Yes sir." Aegidius approaches his young student. He speaks, "What is your former name?"

Sean replies, "Sean Daniels Weston, sir."

The Veteran speaks, "Sean Daniels Weston, you have hereby earned your new title. Your new Legion title will be Recruit Taurus Aurelius. Wear it well."

Taurus replies with what sounds, and seems 100% truthful, "Ave, true to Caesar."

The other recruits join in exploding, "Ave, true to Caesar."

The Decanus steps forward and addresses all new recruits, "Congratulations on earning your new title. From now on you will fight under your Master, the Legionnaire that originally acquired you. Fight hard, fight well. Ave, true to Caesar." The Decanus steps away and returns to his other duties.

The recruits bellow back, "Ave, true to Caesar."

The Teaching of Jack
Inside his tent Jack reads a biology book. Much he does not understand at first, but he quickly catches on.

He looks to his left to see Sgt. McGee enter. "Morning, you are up early aren't you? Is that biology? Wow, I didn't learn about that till I joined the followers. I learned very much with them. I brought you something."

Sgt. pulls a book out of his satchel. "Here is a new book you received today. This one is about astronomy. Clever skill to have, especially when traveling at night. You have learned much since your arrival. Gone through about 10 text books and mounds of paper, haha."

McGee looks at Jack with the loving eyes of a father, "I know it's been six months, and I said you can talk when your ready, and I stand by that. You write to us as long as you need to. Shannon and I understand." He walks over to Jack and squeezes his shoulder. " I will see you later." Sgt. McGee leaves Jack to his studies.

Jack dives back into his reading. The textbook explains the structure of the human cell and the understanding of it. Within the book contains some instructions on how to help treat lacerations and other forms of forceful intrusions on the human body. Once completing the reading of the chapter he answers all the questions in the back of the chapter, including a test. He does this with every chapter and unit until finished with the textbook. Upon completion of a textbook he stacks it on the growing pile of books, and with the paper he places it in his drawer for further review later.

The Stroll
Jack is taking a break from his studies and walking. It is evening, and the sunset of the Mojave is painting the sky with reds; oranges; and yellows. Jack goes past the Major's work tent when he hears a conversation going on between Sgt. McGee, Cpl. Levees, and Maj. Glenn. Through the cloth of the tent he hears Maj. Glenn's booming voice respond to Sgt. McGee, "Wow, he's been here for six months, since April, and not one word has left his mouth?"

Sgt. McGee replies, "No sir, he is still quiet. Shannon and I have spoken to him every day since, and well, nothing."

"Hmm, do you think he can speak? I mean, was he mute before arriving here? It could be hereditary, were either of his parents mute?" Glenn asks his friend.

McGee answers, "I'm not sure if he was mute before the incident. Neither of his parents were mute, I heard both of them speak during the short time I was in contact with them."

Maj. Glenn nods in understanding, "Well, have him examined, not by Shannon, wait, letter a doctor in the Apocalypse and have 'em come down to check him out. This way we will know if there is something wrong or, well, you know."

Sgt. nods in understanding. He stands and says, " Understood Major."

Maj. orders, "Dismissed."

Sgt. pops to the position of attention, salutes his C.O. then leaves.

Jack looks down in wonder, and feels a bit guilty. He walks back over to his tent, sits in his chair, and thinks. He places his elbow on his knee, and his chin on his knuckles, and ponders his situation.

The First Words
Jack rolls over and stares up. The last words he remembers saying were to his brother all those months ago. He sits up, gets changed, and goes to the Sergeant's quarters.

While walking to the quarters Jack is greeted by a few soldiers. Jack responds to each greet with a wave. He reaches the tent, where inside sit Cpl. Levees and Sgt. McGee.

Jack stands in the doorway and speaks for the first time in six months, "Thank you, for, for everything. My parents were... and you two just took me in as your own. You have fed me. You have taught me. You have put clothes on my back. You never had to do this, but you have. Shannon, you have tried to mother me since i arrived, you have done an amazing job, and I thank you. Seth, thank you for trying to be a father to me, and you have done well. I'm not sure if I will ever be a parent, but you both remind me of my... my own."

Shannon has her hand to her mouth in shock, tears of happiness begin to leave her eyes. She lowers her hand and a smile of pure joy escapes her military exterior. She stands up and walks over to Jack. She embraces him in a motherly hug.

Seth is grinning from ear to ear. He walks over to his wife and son and embraces them both. The family create an atom of happiness within the element of the Mojave.

Part 4

The Four Years Later
At the base camp Jack continues to study. What many do not learn until they are older, he has learned and become adapt in. The many areas include astronomy; medicine; human anatomy; human biology; animal biology(pre and post war); marine biology(pre and post war); weaponry including guns; energy; basic knowledge in hand to hand; somewhat in melee; explosives. Outside the area of weaponry he has also become learned in the area of science.

The relationship with his adoptive parents has grown into an unbreakable bond. Seth and Shannon have been on many explorations in the past four years. Jack has been on a few with them.

Jack has grown a foot reaching 5' 8". His mahogany hair has grown very much, reaching his shoulders. His build has increased in size as well. He has gained a few scarred from some of the small expeditions dome with Shannon and Seth. One short, horizontal line exists above his right eye; one rests upon to back of his hand, and on the palm exists it's sister scar close to the thumb.

Jack has had very many conversations with his adopted parents since first speaking. He has even spoken with others on the base as well as the officers. He has become quite the brain of the camp.

===

Over in Caesar's Legion Sean Weston, now Taurus Aurelius, has become quite the young man. Reaching a height of 6'0" 185 pounds of lean muscle. He fills out his recruit armor well, yet the helm can hardly contain his mane of fire.

During the 4 and a half years with the Legion he has become quite the swordsman. At times he bests his Master even with one blade against two. Sometimes he spars with his Master and other Recruits and somehow bests them in the end. His Master is quite the swordsman, but he has taught his young padawan well.

The young Aurelius has become quite charismatic; strong; lucky; enduring; intelligent; perceptive; and agile. Some of the Veteran's in closed conversation refer to him as quite the prodigy. He is quickly becoming the total warrior. Some recruits gest that Taurus could even stand up to Lanius.

The experienced Recruit has gained several scars from fights with gangers; NCR soldiers; some Super mutants; ghouls; radscorpions; giant radscorpions; fiends; giant mantises; dogs; and even Deathclaws.

He has trophies of creatures around his neck. Thumbs; claws; dog tags, small trinkets to show what enemies the Recruit has conquered. A journal could be written on his kills, and journeys.

His issued machete has taken on a crimson tint from his gallery of slaughters. The least crimson part is the edge that he sharpens.

His Master has taught him quite a bit. Aegidius has taught Taurus how to suture wounds of all types whiter it be grenade blasts (what can be sutured); bullet wounds; punctures; lacerations; how to effectively tourniquet. He has thoroughly delved into navigation; and tracking. Taught him where to take a bullet and how to take a bullet in the most desirable of places when being shot at. The Master has taught the student so well that he could convince even the most intelligent of men among the Legion ranks.

The Flashback
The Veteran Explorer has engaged with him in many an intellectual conversation over the years. One that Sean remembers in particular...

Sean thinks back to that night that was only a few weeks ago...

~~~
The two sit around a campfire roasting molerat and having a few laughs. They have just wrestled a couple second generation super mutants and decided to celebrate their combat ingenuity.
His Master stops laughing and has a most serious face. He is only this serious when speaking on deception. He stares into the crackling fire as he speaks, "Do you remember when I first begin training you I spoke of a God-King and crudely compared him to Caesar?"
Taurus replies, "Yes Master, I faintly recall it." He listens intently staring into the depths of his Master's pupils.
"Well one of the most powerful things I have ever learned came from the teachings within his book. I grew to believe in that God-King, and even moved to New Canaan. An odd people lived there though, believing quite a different book than I, so I came back down south. On that adventure though I learned one immensely powerful thing. Probably almost as powerful as the human tongue itself. Forgiveness. I learned that a man's life can be judged by the simple act of forgiveness. Much I have memorized from the book but that one simple act I have burned into the very fabric of my soul. I have tried to live by it as best I could under my conditions. I am a lamb living in the wolves den, and I'm wearing a wolf pelt over my wool and the canines do not even suspect me. I have never let it be known that I believe in someone other than Caesar, except to you, and I don't plan on ever revealing to anyone else as long as I exist within the Legion..."
Sean stares into the depth of the blaze processing his Master's thoughts. He sits there in wonder and thinks if he can forgive the Veteran Explorer. He then says four tiny words, "I have a brother."
Those words seem fall on deaf ears though as the Master continues to stare quietly into the fiery abyss...
~~~

Sean is jolted back to the present at the sound of a voice, "Taurus? Taurus? Are you ready? Snap-snap, we haven't got all day." It is Aegidius wakening him from his day dream. The sun is blazing down on the Mojave as they continue their journey.

The Youth's Thoughts of Future
Jack is sitting in his study wondering what he is going to do with his life. He continues to ponder on it when Shannon walks in, "Hey, what are you thinking about?"

Jack looks over to her, she has long blonde hair, is the same height as Jack, and shines bright her motherly glow. She is fit as can be from all the walking done from exploring. Surprised to see her there he responds, "I'm wondering about my future"

She smiles at him, "Your 14 Jack, don't worry about it too much. You are quickly becoming the smartest person on this base."

Jack blushes then asks, "Would I he able to go off the training soon?"

Shannon shakes her head in hilarity, "Now why would you wanna do that? Your 14 and I'm not sure they'd even take you. Sure you look older than 14 but I'm not sure you could pass of age."

Jack looks down and and replies, "Oh."

Shannon sees how down spirited he is and tries to alleviate his sadness, "I'll see if I can talk to Seth, see if he'd like to get a transfer over to Shady Sands. At least I know if we are closer you'll be able to watch training and see if you really want to do it." She walks over to him and hugs him.

Jack hugs back and replies, "Alright, it'd be interesting to move there. I've never been outside the Mojave."

Sgt. Levees replies to the interest, "Well don't get too excited, it's Major Glenn's final call. I'll come by later with Seth to tell you the news, love ya."

Jack responds back, "Love you too." Jack sits there and imagines himself in the NCR. He is quite obviously the most excited person on Camp McCarran. The boy moves over to his bed and jumps up and down in excitement.

The Decision
Shannon walks into her husbands office and draws close to him. She begins to speak, "You are not going to believe who wants to join the army."

Seth looks up and begins grinning from ear to ear, " Whoa, really? This is news indeed. We'd have to move back to Shady Sands though wouldn't we? Hmm, are you ok with this?"

Shannon looks around as if she's stalling to answer the question, "Oh, uh, maybe, but we've been here for five years, don't you think it's time we be able to go home?"

Seth nods in agreement, "Let's go see Major Glenn." The two leave Seth's office together and walk over to the Major's tent with a smile on their faces. As they approach a young brash Private leaves the officer's tent. The two stand near the entrance and Seth speaks," Excuse me Major Glenn do you have a minute to speak?"

Major looks up from his mountain of paperwork and replies, "Well yes, of course come on in you two. Who could have possibly put a smile on those faces all the way out here, haha?"

The two join in laughter and Sgt. McGee responds, "Well sir, Jack has gotten the idea that he might want to eventually join the army."

"Haha, that's wonderful. This means you would need orders to move back though which is understandable. The three of us have been here longer than anyone by quite a time. Tell you what, my tour ends in a couple weeks, why don't the four of us go together? Some young Captain Dhatri and Major Hsu are heading this way to relieve me of my post. Bout time right? Haha!"

The husband and wife join in laughter and reply, "Yes sir."

Major smiles at the two of them, "I will inform command that you three and a few others will be heading back to Shady Sands with me. Start getting packed. Dismissed."

The two pop to PoA and salute their C.O. with joy. They leave to tent and immediately run together to Jack's tent. They run in and together say, "We are moving to Shady Sands."

Jack beams happiness, but the smile quickly fades as he remembers his brother. He speaks, "What about Sean? He was captured by the Legion all those years ago, do you think he's still alive?"

Seth walks over and sits he and Jack down on the bed. He speaks, "To be honest there is no way of knowing. We do have reports of a Legionnaire with blazing hair though, and he fights with the spirit of an enraged Deathclaw. I do not know if it is him or not, but does it give you hope?"

Jack looks at Seth than Shannon and nods yes.

Seth hugs Jack as if to reassure him that his brother is still alive. Shannon sits on the other side of Jack. The three sit under the rolling sky as they share in the joy of soon departing the Mojave Wasteland.

Part 5

The Redemption
Two and a half years earlier, the men lost many friends and brothers at the Battle of Hoover Dam. So much so that Joshua Graham got the bad end of the burning shaft, and Caesar was courier of that shaft.

It is three years later. The two man army is marching on the Mojave. Sean is now twenty years of age, he stands at 6'2", and is built like an American made Smith & Wesson revolver.

The two were ordered by their Centurion Corvus Aculeo to search for a particular item that could very well turn the tide of the war. The direction given to them have led them to a cavern that sounds like a breathless breeze. Neither have ever heard of this cave because it exists in neither document nor journal.

Aegidius looks to his young Veteran Legionnaire and puts his finger to his face to signal quiet. A loose rock clatters down the slope of the mouth immediately followed by several guttural growls. The two men hear several feet stomping a rampage in their direction. The two Legionnaires immediately fall back. Under the shelter of the blazing sun the two get side to side and preparing the the oncoming assault.

One fully developed Deathclaw approaches and as it does the two charge. Together the two of them slide forward on their knees and slice the abominations legs. Before the abomination can turn around they immediately cripple it's arms. The beast drags the arms along and stumbles around, Taurus leaps onto it's back, pulls out a combat knife and slams it into the neck. He pulls the blade out and blood begins to poor from the new orifice. Taurus ride the beast to the ground as it collapses in death. He sees Aegidius who rewards him with a thumbs up, beneath the helmet lies a truly proud smile.

Three baby Deathclaws come screeching forward to break the early celebration. Young Aurelius dashes forward and slams the combat knife into a skull. Elder Aurelius slices the neck of another baby. The two then destroy the third demon child.

As the last imp falls two young Deathclaws clamber forward. Feeling the fatigue of combat the two go back to back as the young death claws stalk their pray. One young deathclaw assaults Aegidius who parries one swipe and counters with a strike to the attacking wrist. The creature grabs with crippled wrist that is now dripping blood. Aegidius' combating deathclaw leaps at him. The Frumentarii slides on his knees under the deathclaw and grinds his unique machete gladius into the belly of the beast. The entrails spills across the silk sand of the Mojave.

The Fire Warrior engages his opponent. Sprinting towards the young deathclaw, he parries a swipe then forces his combat knife into the jugular of the beast. The abomination quickly grabs it's neck and drowns in a lake of it's own plasma.

The two Legionnaires look at each other and grin beneath their helmets. The two men take off their helmets to get some fresh air, and laugh at the sight around them.

Within the mouth of the cavern hot breath emanates. The largest deathclaw the two men have ever seen crawls out of the depths of darkness. The grey tinted; large tusked abomination drools at his prey.

The two men look to their left and right to see an immensely sized deathclaw. Adrenaline begins to pump through the two men. The former opponents were strong, but this opponent is the strongest thing they have ever laid eyes upon. They get side to side and approach the worthy adversary.

The deathclaw stomps forward and the ground beneath it's feet trembles. It lunges forward with all the weight in it's body. The two Legionnaires duck and roll, while it's turned around they dash toward the back and take out the legs beneath it. This knocks it down and seems tick it off. The two Legionnaires strike will it's down and slice the feet. They then turn around and recover for an attack.

The deathclaw picks itself up. It feels the new lacerations on the bottom of it's feet but doesn't pay them any mind. It leaps forward, one tucks and rolls but the other tries to parry.

Aegidius tries to parry the arm but quickly realizes that his strength isn't much compared to the beast. He hits ground, and while he tries to pick himself up the enormous deathclaw lumbers forward and stomps on Aegidius chest. The Frumentarii has the wind knocked out of him, but much more has been done.

Taurus sees this and rage overcomes his being. He screams, "Raaaaagh", as he charges the deathclaw. As the beast is going down for another stomp, Taurus leaps onto the back and begins to impale the beast with all his might. He uses his uniquely sharpened machete and stabs into the beast.

The deathclaw puts it's foot back down onto the Mojave and tries to rip the pest off it's back. It's arms are too big though and it cannot reach. It then begins to swing from to side and buck like a bronco.

Young Aurelius feels this and sways with the motions. He holds on to the neck with one hand and stabs with his machete. The blade breaks off into the beast and creates a razor sharp tip that Taurus slams into the neck of the beast. He then takes his combat knife and slams it into the skull of his adversary.

The beast stops wrestling the pest off and falls to the ground. Taurus rides it to the deck and walks down to the Mojave. He runs over to his Master and takes a knee next to him. Taurus looks into the eyes of the Frumentarii and asks, "How bad is it?"

The Frumentarii looks up at him and replies, "I've had worse" - he coughs up blood - "Ok, that's a lie. I think all my ribs are broken including my spine. I think It's my time boy, it's time for me to leave this place."

Sean gives a sympathetic smile and shakes his head no. He says, "You, you can't die, I was supposed to kill you." The two immediately laugh at this.

"I know you were, but I have a couple things to tell you before I go. Find your brother, I know you miss him terribly, you hide it well though. One more thing, please forgive me. I'm incredibly sorry for killing tie parents all those years ago. I've held on to regret for all these years. I'd try to change the outcome if I could go back, somehow try to change it." His eyes begin to stare off into the void.

Sean remember his parents, but no anger towards Aegidius arises. There is no more hate eating away at his soul. He sees what this means and says, "I already have."

The Frumentarii smiles at this and says, "Thank you. You must forgive the Centurion though. I know he'e responsible for my death, but look at what the book has taught you. I know you will try to exact your revenge but you mustn't let anger and hatred control you, you mustn't" - Aegidius coughs up more blood.

Sean's face saddens as he watches his mentor fade away; he listens as his master says his last words, "You've become the son I never had. I couldn't be any prouder of you." Aegidius continues to cough up even more blood. He continues to cough until he drowns in his own blood.

Sean kneels over his father figure and the emotions overwhelm it enough to form a single tear that lands upon his valiant mentor. He grabs his former Master's unique Machete Gladius and sheaths it. Sean then picks up the body and carries Aegidius to his final resting place.

---

Part 6

The Master's Pyre
The hour is late, but Sean has finnaly reached the old house he once called home. He lies Aegidius body on the ground behind the house, next to his mother and father. He begins to search for the proper material to create a pyre. He looks to his right, where the old shed rests.

Memories rush into his mind as he remembers his childhood. Sean slowly walks to the shed. He sees a lock on it and is a bit relieved. Taurus takes out a bobby pin from his hair and picks the easy lock. Click, he removes the lock and holds it in his hand. The door creaks open, and everything he remembers from his childhood remains untouched.

Sean walks to the middle. In the shed rests all the tools needed, except a sheet; rocks; and wood. He grabs the axe, gas, and matches, all of which have added seven and a half years to their look, which already had well over two hundred. He brings to supplies out near Aegidius.

He looks toward the house and sees that the door has been splintered. The house is ransacked, and bullets still rest in the walls. The stain of his parents blood blackens the floor. He looks to his parents room and sees the door is kicked open. He strides over and sees the bed, missing the wool comforter, and the middle sheet. The bottom sheet still remains.

Sean bends down and picks up the few door splinters he can. He takes them out and rests them beside Aegidius. He then grabs the axe and returns to the shelter.

The table sits there unbeknownst that it will help create the pyre. As Sean stares at the table, the floodgates shatter, and the memories of his childhood pour through. Sadness envelops him and for the first time in seven and a half years, he cries. He falls to his knees and continues to cry in silence.

He continues to cry till he can cry no more. It is an hour later and the only company is the man in the moon. Sean stands, lifts the axe above his head and with all his might brings it down onto the table.

This table is the very table he use to eat with his family. The same table he chased his brother under, and the very same that his father chased him under. The table is now large wood chips of the floor. He picks up these chips and takes them outside.

He turned around and takes the axe back in. The chairs are the next to go. Followed by the front door. He now has enough for a small pyre.

About a half hour later the pyre is finished. It rests twenty feet from his parents. Around the wood rest rocks to contain the blaze. Sean goes back inside and pulls the last sheet off the bed. He comes back outside with the sheet and wraps his Master in it.

The body is wrapped and is ready. He picks him up and carefully places him face up on the pyre. Sean pours the remaining gas on the wood. The Veteran backs away and lights the match. The flame on the end of the matchstick crackles in the dry Mojave air. Sean tosses the match onto the wood, and a blaze comes to life.

It is a few hours later when the fire finally dies down and Frumentarii Aegidius Aurelius is completely put to rest. He goes back to the shed and locks it.

Sean steps inside and gets a bite to eat before his march back to Fortification Hill. As he leaves though, he stops and pays his respects to his mother and father.

Once finished paying respects, he marches with Mojave under foot and moon over head towards the Centurion.

Part 7

The Ferry
It is morning and Veteran Taurus Aurelius has arrived at Cottonwood Cove, alone. Recruits are standing next to each other and whispering guesses and asking questions in hushed breathes. Taurus walks past them including Coyote Runner; Anders; Veteran Severus; and Aurelius of Phoenix.

He does his business in the head then makes a bee line for the mess hall. He passes Cursor Lucullus who asks him with a concerned look, "Taurus you ok? Where's Frumentarii Aurelius?"

Taurus doesn't look at him as he keeps his tormented face on, "What do you think? And he's certainly not in this hell hole." Lucullus is taken aback by this curt reply. Taurus walks into the hall and swings the door open. The knobs hits the wall and the clink against the metal fills the silent air. The Recruits and Veterans are silent. He walks over to the bar drops his silver on the counter and demands, "Steak!"

The barman pulls a steak out of the fridge and heats it on the oven. This takes a few minutes to heat up, but when it's well done he puts it on a plate and hands it to Taurus. Veteran Aurelius grabs the bhramin steak and begins to eat it with his bare hands. He walks tensely out the door and to the jetty. With an empty mouth he barks, "The Fort."

"Ok," Lucullus replies. He immediately gets on the barge with Taurus and nervously asks, "What happened?"

The wind lifts Taurus shoulder length red hair. He leers at a Cursor Lucculus and gives him a look that implies he is going to rip out his soul and throw it on a grill. He replies, "You really wanna know?" Lucullus slowly nods yes as if unsure. Taurus bellows, "IT WAS A DEATHTRAP, THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED. We got there, and everything was going well. We took down those Deathclaws. That last one though, it made advlt deathclaw look dissolute. It crushed Aegidius. Old man, he was... he was sent to the slaughter. It was probably predicted that I would fall as well. That sonuva[censored] sent us to after something imaginary. He wanted us to get a weapon that would turn the tide in our favor. He knew there wasn't that type of thing there, and even if there is a weapon there it wouldn't be worth it."

Cursor Lucculus stares at him and can't help but ask, "Who's the sonuva[censored]?"

Taurus swallows a bite of steak and answers, "Centurion Corvus Aculeo..." Lucculus gives a look the echoes whoa, and continues to row.

The Gut Feeling
Taurus stands there as he thinks back to a conversation Aegidius and he had a week ago...

~~~
The two men sit under the shelter of the starry sky of the Mojave desert. The fire crackles as a cool wind blows by a few miles from Cottonwood Cove. Aegidius sits to the right of Taurus as he speaks, "Son, I have heard whispers. I've seen documents, I've spoken to close brothers. Centurion Corvus Aculeo is plotting against me. I have signed documents from the Caesar himself that I am to be the next boss Centurion. I have been told that Aculeo is after my life. He wants to hold on to the chair as long as he can. He is a prideful power monger, which will be his downfall. Young man, I must warn you that our next mission is a fools chase. He has convinced Caesar that such a weapon or prowess exists in an unrecorded cavern. It is such a place that it takes the breath of a man as he walks by. If there is a black hole that exists on this God given earth, it is there. I'm not sure if I will survive the battle that may take place."
Frumentarii Aegidius Aurelius reaches into his satchel and pulls out a book of documents. "These are the documents that prove Corvus' sin. If I am to die by his hand you mustn't let anger and hatred take hold of you. If you do you will one day become like him, very much so."
Aegidius hands Taurus the papers who places them safely into his satchel...
~~~

The Proof
Ten minutes pass as they reach their destination.

Once the jetty makes landfall Taurus steps off and marches toward the Centurion. The two Recruits standing at the gate greet him, but Taurus waves them off. Taurus marches up the hill passing a few slaves and children. He passes another Veteran who greets him by name, but Taurus also ignores him. He reaches the main doors to the encampment and kicks it open. The Legionnaires behind the door immediately stop what they are doing and look with a surprise. Taurus is marching toward the main tent and with each stomping step dust is kicked up.

Veteran Taurus Aurelius reaches the tent and rips the tent flap open. He yells aloud, "Bastard, you knew didn't you Centurion? Your the only one, and you knew he was worthy of your position as head Centurion!" In the main chamber of the tent sits the head Centurion on a throne. The tent was created for the Caesar himself, but he would not yet arrive and did not plan to arrive until the culmination of the war.

The Chief Centurion grew a devilish all knowing smile. He slowly arises and speaks, "Why young Veteran I have not a clue on earth what you are speaking of; haha."

"You sonuva[censored], you knew that Frumentarii Aurelius would be next in for Head Centurion. You knew Caesar favored him far more than he did any other, so you set us up." By now the other Frumentariis; Centurions; and Praetorians are paying extreme attention.

"Stupid boy, you have no idea what your talking about," Corvus spits back as he slowly begins to perspire on his forehead, upper lip, and turn flush red.

"Really? He had been a part of the Legion for 15 years; done countless deeds for Caesar himself; and trained a warrior that, from what I hear, could match Lanius. You don't find a better leader than that!" Taurus is now in the main chamber of the tent and stares down into Corvus' black pit of a soul.

One of the Centurions speaks, "If he speaks to truth, then Centurion Corvus Aculeo here has committed treason and should he put to death."

Corvus now has a bead of sweat sliding down his skin. He rambles, "You don't have any proof, brat!"

The wind picks up and rocks Taurus's red mane as he unsheathes the unique machete gladius and swiftly swings the blade to have the tip just touch jugular of Corvus. The light shines upon a lettered orb on the butt of the hilt.

With his left hand he reaches into his satchel and unleashes the truth of Corvus Aculeo's sin. A Centurion walks over to Taurus and grasps the papers that shines upon Corvus illicit behavior.

The Centurion dissects the documents and says, "It's all here. Veteran, you may have yourself earned quite the commendation. As for you Centurion Corvus Aculeo, you are hereby sentenced to d-"

The Pride is Overwhelming
Taurus interjects, "No, I request a duel to the death."

The judging Centurion looks around and sees the other legionnaires in the tent nod in approval. The Judge nods in approval as well and say, "Request granted."

Taurus flicks the unique Machete Gladius back into it's sheath. A tiny dot of blood appears on the adams apple of Corvus, who is without helm. The Bull drills out of the tent and jumps into the Arena.

Whilst standing in the center he hears the echo of his Master's voice reverberate in his mind, 'Forgive, forgive...' Around him he hears the murmurs, whistles, and cheers of rowdy Legionaries crack the dry air. Time slows down for the slightest moment, and the anger and hatred towards Corvus strangely dissipates. Weight lifts off of The Bull's shoulder as he feels the hate and disgust somehow leave his body.

Taurus hears the shouts, "Cor-vus Cor-vus Cor-vus," fill the air. Others cheer, "Tau-rus Tau-rus Tau-rus." The Veteran watches as the Centurion walks down the ramp and into the Arena.

The gate is shut, locked, and the battle begins. Taurus feels some new entity permeate his body and soul. He unsheathes his weapon and takes a stance with the blade at level to his head, and close to his ear witheft arm extended for balance.

The Centurion recklessly charges and takes the battle to Taurus. He stabs forward but is tripped by a dodging Taurus. He gets up as pride devours him and he says, "How dare you trip me, twit." Stumbling to his feet, he makes a mockery of Legion combatting skill by doing the same thing again.

Taurus is facing the gate but he senses the same thing happening as a moment ago. He side steps the blade and slams his elbow into the Centurions nose. The nose breaks and blood begins to pour from the nostrils.

The veins are bulging in the biceps of Taurus. However, he is the most calm man east of the Colorado. He turns around to see the pathetic excuse of a man try to nurture his nose. The Centurion's own blood covers his face and hands.

The Centurion's anger and pride continue to overwhelm and and he randomly slashes at Taurus with full force. The Veteran parries away each swipe, with each contact the blades made a 'Ting'. After a third parry Taurus ends the struggle and gives a powerful haymaker to Corvus's jaw. A tooth is knocked loose, and one his knocked completely out. Blood begins to fill Aculeo's mouth from his right side.

Taurus moves ever so closely to his enemy and moves in close so that only Corvus can hear him speak. He says, "You are the man that ended the life of a man who became like a father to me. However, I hold no anger towards you, or hatred, in fact, I forgive you. Aegidius Aurelius taught me everything in his repository, and made me his living lineage. Forgiveness was the most powerful thing he introduced to me... Do you agree?"

Taurus backs away, turns around and begins to walk away. Behind him Corvus pulls a switchblade and scowls, "It is nothing compared to weapons I've seen." The pride of Corvus shows itself one last time as he dashes at Taurus.

Aculeo leaps at Taurus, but he underestimates his adversary who perceives Aculeo flying towards him. Taurus flips his old mentor's weapon upside down and forces it upward in a backward stab. The body of Corvus plunges unto the blade, which sticks straight up under the sternum and into the heart.

Corvus gasps in shock, and the last thing he sees before he slips from this world is the single word on the orb of the butt of the hilt: Redemption.

Part 8 - The Conclusion of Brothers

The Conversation with Lanius
Frumentarii Taurus sits under the tent with Legate Lanius. They are in the final preparations for the battle and Taurus is to play a key role. The 23 year old is prepared for heading to battle, but isn't sure if he is going to do as ordered.

From beneath the face helm Lanius speaks, "You have become a very promising Legionnaire Frumentarii Taurus. You have reached this rank with unprecedented swiftness and I commend you. However, I do ask for you to play your part in the upcoming battle. You will sneak under the cloak of a stealth-boy. You must sneak in and cut off their comm center. You are to get inside and assassinate all there. After you will set up this bug so that we can sabotage their plans." The Legate hands Taurus the bug.

Taurus takes hold of the bug and says, "Understood, will that be all Legate?"

"Yes Frumentarii Taurus, that will be all."

"Ave, True to Caesar," Taurus says.

Legate responds, "Yes... Ave, True to Caesar, Dismissed."

Taurus walks out of the tent and into the sunlit sands of the Legate's Camp. He feels the wind caress his hair. The soft wind reminds him of his mother's silk-like hand. He walks down the steps with left hand on Redemption. As he walks to his tent he is greeted by several legionnaires and replies to each in kind.

Inside the tent he places his gear aside. He lies down on the cot and drifts off to the dreamland one last time before the culmination of the war.

The Dots
Corporal Jack sits on his rack. He sits there and wonders about the past three and a half years. His entry into the army; Seth and Shannon's retirement; his deployment back to the Mojave.

He remembers returning to his home and paying his respects to his parents. Behind his parents remained a black oval on the ground where what looked like a pyre had been placed. A large stone making up oval faced his parents, in it was chiseled Aegidius Aurelius.

His brother had become a ghost. There were reports during his career that had described a fiery warrior with blazing red hair that cut through NCR Rangers and Veteran Rangers like bhramin steak. In these reports the legionnaire would leave one person alive to be able to spread the rumors of his fury.

As he lies down on his rack he continues to ponder The Red Frenzy, as some called. He tries to connect the dots but he is unable to. Lying there, eyes becoming heavy he falls off to sleep one last time on forthcoming battlefield.

The Culmination
The Corporal is ready and waiting on the front lines of the battle. He is along side The Courier who is rampaging forward and cutting down legionnaires. It seems as though the battle is going in their direction as The Courier pushes each wave back.

As he continues to help The Courier he sees a feint blur heading their way. He doesn't fire upon it but he pays close attention. He sees some NCR soldiers join the battle. While the door is still open the blur sneaks in. Jack follows this mirage inside and sneaks behind it from afar.

Inside the Dam, Jack continues to follow. He holds his mothers magnum in hand. The Corporal is without helm and his low fade is obvious. As the 20 year old walks he makes sure to go as light footed while he sneaks. Over the radio he continues to hears the orders relay.

---

Frumentarii Taurus Aurelius continues forward toward the comm station. He sneaks pass a corner. Two soldiers go right by as they rush toward the battle. Under his cloak he strides onward. Around the corner and across the hall rest the station. He moves forward and sees two soldiers standing guard.

One soldier enters the room and he silently follows. Three NCR soldiers are in the room. Taurus surveys his scene and decides to knock the soldiers out. He sneaks up to the closest soldier and tosses him against the wall. At this instance the soldier at the microphone screams, "Game over man! Game over! They're coming out of the damn walls!"

---

Jack hears this strange radio wave and dashes toward the comm room. He sees the Private standing there and he immediately says, "They need you out on the battlefield. Chop chop Private get a move on." The Private heads that way with swiftness.

Jack opens the door and sees three knocked out NCR soldiers on the deck, and a Frumentarii standing over the control panel. He watches and sees the warrior take off his helm and sees long flaming hair breath into the stiff air. He aims the magnum towards the legionnaire known as Red Frenzy, and waits till the opponent faces him.

---

Taurus is conflicted and cannot decide whether or not to place the bug into the panel. He hears heavy breathing so the Frumentarii about faces and he sees a magnum that is like a holotape to the past. He looks to the face and sees something he hasn't seen in over ten years: his mother's eyes. As he thinks about it he had his father's eyes and his brother... Had his mothers.

---

Jack keeps the magnum level and as he does he sees past the blazing hair into the eyes. Through his windows he sees his father's eyes. With the sight of his father's eyes he sees the man with them: his brother. At this moment he lowers the magnum and asks, "Sean?!"

Sean relaxes and asks with hesitance, "Jack?!"

The two slowly approach each other. Jack is just two inches taller than Sean, but not as stocky with muscle. The Corporal moves forward and holsters his magnum. The two do not know what to do exactly. They hardly believe the sight.

Finally Sean speaks, "Jack Weston?"

"Yes! Sean Weston?" Jack replies.

Sean stands there with his hand to his hand trying to remember. It had been years since he was last called Sean. It takes a moment but he says, "Yes... look Jack, we have got to get out of here, do you know a way out?"

Jack quickly responds, "Yes, follow me, and do you have another stealth boy?"

Sean reaches into his satchel and pulls out two. He says, "Yes, take one and lead the way."

Little brother Jack takes the reins and guides he and his brother out of the area. He then brings them to a secret escape route that he discovered during his time there. In the deepest parts of the dam lies this hatch. Jack opens it and outside against the wall is a ladder.

The two hollow men climb down this ancient ladder down to river. The brothers enter the Colorado and drift away. They become floating bodies amid the debris of Fortification Hill.

WC Episode 8

Separate Ways...

The wind blows on the cool fall morning. The Colorado rushes downstream. Beside it, sand is crunched beneath the feet of the brothers. The strange encounter with the old man is vivid in Sean's memory. The two are not speaking. At least one is listening to the sound of nature and enjoying the calm.

The quiet interrupts Jack's serenity, he looks to his right and sees Sean with an unsettled expression on his face. Jack is concerned, "You ok Sean?"

The older brother awakens from his trance, "Oh, ah, was just fixated on a dream I had after we had that argument."

Jack's jaw drops, "You were sleeping?"

Sean's eyes become wide, "Hold up, no. I wasn't asleep, least it didn't feel like I was asleep. Musta been a daydream, or actually a night dream."

Jack loses the feeling of offense, it is replaced with care, "What happened?"

Sean continues to look down in uncertainty as they walk. "Just a weird waking dream that's all."

Jack momentarily looks straight to watch his step, "It's bugging you, you gotta talk to me. C'mon now."

Sean thinks back, and shakes his head in disbelief, "Alrighty, I put my head down between my legs. Then I hear this voice. Strange thing is it's as though he appeared just like that, out of nowhere," Sean looks over to his brother who is looking at him whilst holding back a laugh. "Hey, don't laugh, you wanted you hear this. So I look up and see this old seventy or so year old. He was rockin' this killer beard too, long; grey; scraggly but kept; white clothes; these eyes that pierced my soul, but didn't scare so much as make me feel safe."

"Odd, contradicting emotions to feel, right?"

"Yeah, that's what was strange about the entire experience. He told me your nicknames, and recited mine verbatim." Sean looks over to his brother and sees the him go wide eyed.

"That is even weirder than him showing up outa nowhere. You sure this wasn't a dream? Uh... did he mention Jackelope?" Jack looks to Sean in anticipation as they continue to walk.

Sean cocks his head at his brothers question, "Jackelope? What, what kinduva nickname is Jackelope?"

"Uh, never mind then."

"Aha, so Jackelope, what's the meaning behind that? Haha, spills the beans bro."

Jack shakes his head, "No can do."

"Ah, cmon haha."

Jack is glaring at Sean, "Alright, but after I tell you, you gotta tell me about what happened to you when we went separate ways, Dig?"

Sean grins, "Dig."

"Ok, was back when I was with that blonde I was tellin' you about. Well her name was Private Britannia February. She was as beautiful as the day is long. Well, when she wanted me, she would call me by her pet name for yours truly, which was Jackelope."

At this confession Sean is breaking apart with laughter. He has to stop walking to catch his breath. "She, she called you Jackelope? Hahahaha, as your, heh, your pet name? Oh my gosh." He stands and wipes to tears from his face. "I haven't laughed that hard since i was a little school boy."

Jack's face is frank, "You done? Daylight is runnin' and you have yet to tell me."

"Yes, I'm done, that was good. Whew, ok, you wanna know how I faired after we ended up worlds apart, I was taken in by Caesars Legion. Mainly under a man you've already heard of, Aegidius Aurelius. He took me under his wing. Taught me the keen art of deception," Sean points to Jack's satchel, "And the power of forgiveness. Took six months from capture to become a recruit. Upon reaching that moment I earned the title Taurus Aurelius. I became apprentice to Aegidius Aurelius. Then on we went on missions together. At age nineteen I was promoted to Veteran. Aegidius would gradually go from Veteran, to Veteran Explorer, to finally Frumentarii. Jack, he may have been responsible for our parents death, but he is a good man."

"Is? I thought he got killed?"

"He did, I said is because he is still alive through Christ. Anyways, we battled many a foe, and completed dozens of missions. He passed that Bible on to me as well. There reached a point where he was in line to become next top man, head Centurion. One night he set me aside around the campfire. He informed me that our prideful Centurion had been planning to have him killed. He handed me a volume of documents. Then a bogus mission did come round, things were going smoothly. We took down a fully grown deathclaw; three baby death claws; two young Deathclaws; and then Aegidius demise erupted from the mouth of the cave. Age had finally caught up to him. He wasn't strong, but then again I think I wouldn't be strong even even now to parry such a blow. This enormous deathclaw, it was atleast the size of two Deathclaws you see roaming around the Mojave." The two brothers continue to grind in the mileage. Sean shakes his had as he continues, "He tried to parry, but the abomination pushed him aside like a box of fancy lad snacks. I wasn't fast enough to slow the beast down. It crushed Aegidius like we will crush our next meal. It was terrible, so I rode that beast like a buckin' brahmin and took that beast to it's grave. Put another hole in it's head with my blade at the time. I didn't always have Redemption, twas Aegidius blade till he passed it on to me. As you saw I built him a pyre, was inappropriate where I put it, but I wanted forgiveness to be shown. I went back to The Fort and convicted the Centurion responsible, Corvus Aculeo. I did forgive him, but his pride overwhelmed him and the last word he saw on this earth was Redemption. I was promoted to Frumentarii not long after. Before the battle I was ordered by Legate Lanius to bug the communication room, then we made contact, so there you go."

Jack seems flabbergasted, "Wow, you killed that many Deathclaws? Damn, you should give Castle a run for his caps then, right?"

"Well, fighting a deathclaw is very different than fighting a man. A deathclaw is after one thing: the next meal. Men are after less innocent things. That's the reason why he fights differently. Castle is looking to make the Deathclaws, and whom he would consider lesser men, slaves to his will. A deathclaw, nah, he ain't looking for nothin' but to provide for his family, now that can be admired. Sure it'll eat us if it gets the chance, but he doesn't want us to be his slave." Sean looks over to Jack who is scratching his head.

"Sure, but you're making deathclaws out to he a bunch of saints."

Sean nods, "That's because compared to Castle, they are."

Jack looks over to Sean with reverence, "Huh, you're right." Both siblings walk over to the river and get a drink of water. The sound fills the air like music. Sean splashes his face.

They continue their journey with small talk. Jack looks over and asks a simple question, "I noticed something, you don't curse much do you?"

The red head shakes his head, "Nah, only when I'm really pissed off, or it is appropriate." The sound of the siblings conversing is drowned beneath the clean waters.

As they continue to march on, The Westons grow ever closer. Bridges are built, and brotherhood is rekindled. Jack grows to have more respect for his brother, and likewise for Sean. Sean tells him stories of battle, and Jack illuminates on some of his patched up combat wounds. Approaching the Mojave Wasteland they become more like peas and carrots, and less like feuding brothers.

WC Episode 9

Please Forgive Them...

---

Time has passed and the brothers have reached the territory of New Vegas. Things have changed in the Mojave. Securitrons roamed the roads as peacekeepers under the rule of Yes Man. Unfortunately, a new figure has walked into town and somehow hacked into the mainframe. He shut the bulk of wheel bots. This new malevolent figure has turned the remaining Securitrons into taskmasters. The archfiend has planted himself as pit boss and seeks to reign over this land with an iron fist and a steel hammer.

---

Jack and Sean are heading north on 95. The two now are just pass Novac. The younger brother pulls out a small trinket, and eagle, globe and anchor. Sean looks down at the aged heirloom, "Goodness, our family heirloom? You kept it this whole time?"

Jack nods, "Yes, I learned some fascinating things about it."

"Oh yeah? Enlighten me."

"Well, it is the symbol of a United States Marine. Goes back waaaaaay pre war. The Marines were apparently the greatest warriors of America. From their prowess in battles during World War one and two, as well as previous wars, they gained the titles of First to Fight, for being the forefront of every American war. Leathernecks, for wearing leather stocks on their neck to keep their head upright. Teufelhunden or Devil Dog, for doing the unthinkable at the Battle of Belleau Wood by taking ground that was believed unable to be taken. Hmm, Jarhead, by their sailor brothers because their dress blue uniform's neck resembled mason jars. The President's own, for being both the band that played for the President, and because they worked by his direction."

Sean looks at the now historically potent heirloom, "May I hold it?"

Jack is shocked by the question, "Of course brother, we are both devil pups, which means child of marine, and I would speculate we are considering it's an heirloom." Jack moves the aged gunmetal black and places it into Sean's palm.

Sean holds the weighty object in hand. He holds it to his chest to try and feel his family history within it. Memories of his father and mother return. Tears begin to swell in his eyes as the memories break the the wall containing them. He hands the heirloom to his brother and sniffles, "Sorry, just got a little choked up there thinking about Mom and Dad."

Empathy arises within Jack, and it shows. The two brothers continue to walk. They are now a few miles beyond Novac.

About an hour passes, and Dinky the Dino is now a small toy on the horizon. They have stayed quiet since the emotional pop of Sean. They approach the decrepit El Dorado Gas and Service station. Walking by the sign they hear shuffle of feet, Sean looks around and quietly places his hand on Jacks left shoulder, "Shhh..." The elder brother continues to survey his surroundings, "You hear that?"

Six people step from cover of the aging masonry. Two women, a large woman and a petite female. Four men ranging in all sizes from stick to obese. A man of average build and height speaks through his survivalist beard, "Hot damn! You two big boys just got yourself into a rat trap, heheeh." He holds his lead pipe in hand, "Girls and guys, getem."

Sean holds his hands up and yells, "Hold up NOOOW!" The troupe stops in their tracks and listen. "Hey, I want to warn you, this is not a wise decision on your leaders part." The two women, and the three other men look at Sean, and then their napoleanic leader.

Jack looks to Sean with great worry. He whispers, "What are you doing? Let's drop 'em."

Sean shakes his head at his brother, "Violence isn't the answer to all things brother." The Fire Warrior turns his attention back to the assailants. "Please, listen to me, we do not have to fight. There are better ways to live. You can get jobs at New Vegas; Freeside; Mojave Express. Before you make the decision of assaulting us, I want you to heed my words, you will regret it. Turn back now and make an honest living, possibly find faith."

The leader is infuriated, "Hey dammit! You best stop it now, and y'all, kill 'em!"

Jack is shaking his head no. He massages his temples as if trying to treat a headache. Sean places his right palm on Redemptions orb, "Choose wisely."

The proud leader charges the brothers. Jack rips the magnum from the holster in his right hand, and with left pulls the KA-BAR from it's sheath. He takes a defensive stance, Sean pulls Redemption from it's scabbard and defends himself. The other thugs follow their leader blindly.

Jack shoots the large woman in her left leg's femoral artery. The woman screams out in pain as she quickly loses life force. The obese man attacks Jack from behind, but he suddenly finds out he underestimated the younger brother. Jack parries the man's hammer swing, subsequently he stabs him through his left ribs punching a hole into his lung.

The obese man grabs his chest. Blood seeps through his hands. He looks down to the blood, and back up to the fighting fury. He falls to the deck.

Sean blocks each swing of the despot. The third stooge attacks him and lands a kick into the elder brother's side. Sean is backed up from the kick, "Back to back brother." The youngest partakes in the stance. Both parry accordingly as swings are thrown.

Jack puts a bullet through the petite female's cranium. With the final two opponents, the brothers enter a beautifully orchestrated melee dance. Metals clang as they clash. Steels grinds as they slash. The third stooge slips, and ends up falling face first upon his enemies KA-BAR. The leader hops to dodge a low strike, but loses both of his feet to Redemption.

Jack pulls the KA-BAR from the limp body. The stooge begins drowning in his own plasma. He grasps at the hole in the bottom of his mouth, trying desperately to stop the bleeding. The man slowly stops breathing, and chokes to death on his own blood.

The leader grasps at the bloody stumps beneath his ankles, "Graaaaah! What the [censored] man?" He looks up from behind the aviators. The brothers sheath and holster their weapons.

Jack looks down and grimaces at the bone and muscle, "Damn."

Sean looks to his brother, "I told them they would regret it. And why are you grimacing, I thought you were a medic."

Jack removes his hand from his mouth, "I am, just never seen an amputation like that, so clean too," he looks to the dying leader, "you should be grateful, not even auto-Doc's can amputate this well."

The sitting man looks up with sadness in his face. He raises his hands as if asking what is he going to do. Sean looks down at the crippled man and feels overwhelming pity.

The elder brother takes a knee next to the lost man. Jack watches as Sean converses with the scared being. The amputee's complexion changes as the conversation continues. Jack watches as a beaming smile arises on his face. Tears begin flowing from the thugs eyes. He is nodding with exuberance and hugging Sean.

Jack walks to behind the man and looks over to Sean. His brother seems to be whispering prayer. Jack cocks his head in confusion. He whispers, "What the..." Sean looks up to Jack with the man now sobbing with happiness. He gets off his former enemies shoulder. The Bull gives hands signals reading: pistol; pistol to thug's head, and he moves his mouth slowly.

Jack reads his brothers lips to see the word "now." He locks the hammer back. The medic puts the barrel to the back of the thug's head, and pulls the trigger. The shot rings out through the air of the dry Mojave. Sean delivers a sign of the cross as this occurs.

The aviators fly off the man's face. A gaping hole now oozes blood and adds to the pulls already standing.

The red head stands and pushes his fingers through his thick hair. He scratches the thickening curls on his chin. He walks to the middle of the pack of corpses. The man of faith delivers the sign of the cross once again. He takes a knee and prays, "Dear Lord, please forgive them. These men and women for their transgressions. From what I've learned from the man that just joined you, they did not know of you. Please forgive them Lord and allow your son to speak to them, and repent. I do understand though that this will probably not occur, but your will is your will. I just pray that they receive mercy. In your son's name I pray, Amen."

Sean stands and looks to his brother, "Time to go."

Jack raises his arms in exasperation, "What the hell was that?"

"That was me trying to plant some more seeds in this barren wasteland. Some people think it's God forsaken, but they are wrong." At this acknowledgment the vision of the scraggly old glowing man enter his mind.

"You do that as they lie dying and dead? What kinduva gardener are you?"

Sean walks over to his brother, "It might seem wrong to you right now, but when you read the new testament you will understand more clearly. How far you gotten anyway?"

Jack rolls his eyes as they continuing marching, "Haggai. You gonna be like this the rest if the trip?"

Sean looks back, "If you mean defending myself while spreading His seed, than yes. That man is sitting in Heaven now, and he is at peace, as for his gang I do not know." the elder brother keeps walking. Jack shakes his head as he follows.

--

Time and length down the road they come across a billboard with a smoldering fire. They take a seat on either side of the logs. Jack gets the fire ready. Sean looks wears to watch the sun set. He sees the palette of colors paint the twilight sky.

The old man's face rises from his memory to haunt him once more. How did that man know so much about both of us? Why is he haunting me so?Sean looks to his brother who has lit the fire.

Jack sits there with fire before him. A distant memory arises of that fateful day. The day he lost his woman. He rubs his eyes, "Hey Sean, can I tell you something, bout the day Brittanina... Ya know..."

Sean looks across to Jack with understanding, "Hey, of course."

"Was bout two years ago. That morning we'd shared ourselves to each other. Just after she got called out for patrol. Was about four hours till her squad returned. She came back in an old pre war coffee can. They told me that a viper gang member had a plasma rifle, and she was hit. I was shell shocked by this. That led me to head back to Shady Sands to see Seth and Shannon."

Jack puts his head down and wipes a tear on his cheek. Sean sympathizes with his brother, "Hey, she's in a better place, I'm sure of it. Did she go to church?"

Jack nods his head, "She tried to convince me sometimes but I didn't want to. I would have if I'd have known how much time she had left"

Sean stands and takes a seat beside Jack, comforting him. The two stare at the warmth emanating from the flowing flames.

WC Episode 10

That's How You Do It Boys...

Iron grinds against iron as the gate to the ghetto opens. The brothers step over threshold exhausted, and twilight overhead. The neon of Vegas glows on the horizon.

The brothers smell like a couple of walking feet. They have not cleaned up for a few days, and have been walking the entire time. They wear the same clothing since leaving Broken Heart Hotel.

Sean looks over to his brother with disdain. He looks forward as an old fort enters his sight, "You know that old saying, 'You know family members have been visiting for too long when they smell like fish,'?" Jack nods with annoyance. "Well you smell like dead fish."

"You do too."

"Hey, at least, uh, well ok your right. We just need a bath that's all, maybe some people in this fort can help."

Jack shakes his head. The smell of the slum molests his nasal cavity. He hears glass break and angry screams in the distance. A grim frown arises on his face. He sticks close to his brother.

Sean stands in front of the grey wooden doors. He looks to his right and sees Jack beckoning him to open the door. The older brother pushes forward. They doors slowly creak open, filling the the air with a hair raising screech. "I think they need some lube, Jack."

Some of the annoyance in Jack lifts at this stupid joke. There are dozens of people within the walls. Moans and groans echo through the stale air. Two men sit behind a barrier of sand bags. To the right of these men is a woman with a spike Mohawk. She approaches the two newcomers, "Can I help you? I am Julie Farkas, Doctor within the Followers of the Apocalypse," she puts her hand to her nose to help protect from the smell.

Jack looks to Sean and then back to Julie, "Good evening, we were just looking for a place to stay, and maybe some bathwater."

Julie lowers her hand and shakes her head, "I'm really sorry, we are full up. Ever since the new boss took over at the Lucky 38, things have changed. Everything was great under Yes Man, even better than under the House. We have been full up since just after that tyrant took office. However, if you go by the Kings maybe they can help you, tell them I sent you. I have to get back to my patients."

Sean's eyes lose all sense of hilarity, "Mam, this new boss man, would his name happen to be Anton Castle? Really big guy, he's a bit of a dike."

Julie is confused by this question, "Yes, but I am unaware of his build, excuse me." She walks away to tend to her flock.

Sean turns around and walks out of the fort. The brothers close the gates behind them. To their left the see a hot pink glow over a scrap car barrier.

Walking toward the gate they see a group of children chasing after a molerat. The smell of the slums continue to fester Jack. "Damn, the smell is disgusting." Over the intercom, Nat "King" Cole's Orange Colored Sky pops a beat.

"You're sure that's not you?" Sean pushes one side of the tin metal door open.

Jack steps through,"I hope not, I know we are walking in trash bags, but damn." He closes the tin door. They both see a hot pink sign radiating in the forthcoming night.

Sean looks up to the neon sign, "The King's School of Impersonation, you think he will remember Alan?"

"I hope so, 'cause if he doesn't we are [censored] outa luck." The brothers walk forward to the door. It is open the sounds of a concert are echoing from it.

"There is no such thing as luck my brother." Sean steps over the threshold and hears the King of Rock echo from the stage room. The men walk through the empty lobby and into the auditorium. It is packed with all members of the gang watching a man on stage. The men are listening respectfully, and the excitement is palpable.

This is a man whom resembles Alan. He where's a white jacket; blue dress shirt top two buttons unbuttoned exposing his chest; black dress pants; and black gloss shoes. He is gyrating his pelvis to the rhythm of the song. The entertainer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yleEG-9F1ms&feature=youtube_gdata_player
"Hey"

"Ah-yeah, ah-yeah"

"Baby"

"Well, it's one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, cat, go

But don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Alright
Well, you can do anything
But stay offa my blue suede shoes

Well, you can knock me down
Step in my face
Slander my name
All over the place

do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh
Honey, lay off of them shoes
But don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But stay off of my blue suede shoes
Let's go cat!"

As the music rocks on Sean whispers to his brother, "Wow, this guy could give Alan a run for his caps."

Jack nods in agreement, "I think this is the guy that taught him, I think he's The King."

A man in a rockabilly top and a greaser do hisses, "Shhh, have some respect, that's The King up there."

"Well, you can burn my house
Steal my car
Drink my liquor
From an old fruit jar

Do anything that you want to do
uh-uh, honey, lay off of my shoes
And don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes"

"Ah-yeah!"

"Yeah"

Commentary on the record blares, "A real-real-real big shoes?"

Someone on the track answers, "Blue suede shoes."

The King exclaims, "Wheeeeew!"

The subordinates let their excitement out, "Whew!"

"Jubejubejubejube ju-no-ha!"

More commentary explodes, [I]"Someone musta stomped on his head with those blue suede shoes."

The crowd finds this funny, "Hehehehehaha." Following this the Kings cheer, "Whew!"

"Baby!"

"Domni-domni-domni-domni-domni"

"Well, it's one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, go, go, go, go, go, go

But don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes"

"You can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes"

"You can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes"

"Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes!"

The brothers are blown away with jaws on the floor. The music cuts, The King tosses the mic to a fan, and subordinate, of his. A clearing is made and the brothers have to back up due to the greasers scootching towards them. The King hops into the clearing and bellows, "That's how you do it boys."

A King backs into Sean, "Hey, what the hell are you doing in here? You ain't suppose to be in here-"

"Hey!" The King shuts his subordinate up and moves through the parted crowd, "You don't speak to our guests like that boy. Please forgive him, he is young and reckless. Everyone, back to 'yer posts!" The auditorium begins to clear of greasers. He beckons the brothers to follow him, "Please join me. I'm sorry bout that young gun, so who are you and what can I do for ya?"

Both brothers are shocked by his hospitality. They stammer a bit between each other trying to figure out what to say. Sean speaks up, "Uh, I am Sean Weston, and this is my brother, Jack. We were referred to you by Julie Farkas for a place to bathe, and crash for the night. We also met a man named Alan a while back at a place called Broken Heart Hotel."

"Well I'll be damned, how's 'ol Alan rollin' along?" The King takes a seat, as do the Westons.

"Well, he's doing great for the fact he just lost his fiance. The new guy running things now had him kill her, literally," Jack explains.

A mixture of sadness and anger pervade The King, "Well that's the craziest thing I've ever heard. These are crazy times though, so I don't put it past that top fat cat. He's a real stinker... no offense."

Sean grimaces at this, "None taken, we were kinda hoping we could crash here for one night and get cleaned up."

"Of course, pick a room upstairs. If someone has a problem with it you tell 'em to come see me. If you need some new threads just ask a King in the lobby."

Jack is thankful, "Thank you so much, how can we ever repay you?"

The King shakes his head, "Nonsense, any friend of Alan's is a friend of mine."

Sean leans in, "Hey, uh, can we just walk into the strip?"

"Nah cat, you need to either pay a fee, which has doubled, or get a pass. Only way you can get a pass is through me. Why you ask?"

Sean looks to Jack, and then to The King, "We want to take down the big boss man."

King is surprised by this, "Well I'll be damned, bout time someone decided to take him on. Tomorrow go by Mick and Ralph's tomorrow and hit 'em up. Tell 'em I sent ya, and they will hook ya up. Good luck."

The brothers shake hands with The King.

In the lobby Jack speaks a King at the desk, "Scuse me, your boss just wanted us to ask you for some threads, can you get some for us?"

The young King is wide eyed, "Certainly, will be back in a jiff."

A few minutes pass and the King comes back with rockabilly attire including a basic leather jacket; black and white striped tee; blue jeans; and dark brown smooth cowboy boots. Another consisting of a dark denim jacket; dark blue jeans; a white tee; and black boots. Both come with new skivvies, and socks.

Upstairs they find an empty room with two beds, and a bath. Sean puts his satchel down, "Ah, finally, we can get this stink off of us. The smell itself is like a thin film on my skin, it's terrible."

Jack lies down on the mattress, "I know right? I think it's so bad that the rooms on either side of us have been evacuated."

"Heh, I don't blame them. We smell like sweaty feet. Speakin' of feet, I'm not diggin' the boots, you wanna swap?"

Jack nods, "Yeah, I like those better than these cowboy boots."

The brothers do their business, and finally drift off on a spring filled cloud to dreamland.

Great imagery, my friend. Your characters aren't static, which is good. Your dialogue with them is impressive also, building up there character, showing off there emotions to each other and really solidifying the bonds between brothers. It's impressive, thought there's a couple places where I would have added/taken stuff, the overall effect of it was above average at the very least of these forums. The imagery is good as I said, there are more than few places where I would have changed things, but you got more than the point across which is good for some flavorful reading.

So all and all, I say you have improved more than a little bit. There's still plenty of room for improvement, but hey not everyone is perfect(not even Surfer) and I will stay with this until it's end. :)

WC Episode 11

Life Could be a Dream

Sh-boom Sh-boom. Sean stands in the kitchen of his childhood home. The radio is boppin' to a beat, and his brunette mother is cooking dinner. His father is working on something in the shed. Little Jack is playing in the living room. The red head child looks up to his mother's face and tugs on her dress to get her attention. She smiles down at him and says something, but Sean hears no words. He is confused by this. Strangely, a red spot begins to grow in the center of her chest.

The mother looks down in surprise at the blood soaking her pre war spring dress. She touches it and sees the blood on her fingers. She falls to the floor. The young boy is crying. Bawling as he watches his mother fall to the deck as if he knows what has happened. The young mother hits the deck with such force the it awakens the elder brother.

The red head jolts up gasping with a cold sweat on his forehead and chest. He hears a lyric from The Crew Cuts on the radio.

Boom Sh-Boom
Hey, nonny, ding, dong
Alang, alang, alang (sh-boom)
Ba-doh, ba-doo, ba-doodle-ay
Life could be a dream
Life could be a dream, sweetheart

Sean looks to his brother still asleep, He must of turned it on after I crashed. He begins to quietly get dressed in in the black room as light seeps from the hall through the door crack. He hears Jack stir in his sleep.

The younger brother mutters, "No, no, this can't..."

Jack stands there with the coffee canteen in hand. The smell of the ash feels his lungs. A tear lands on his gal as she rests in the very old can. "This can't be. She, she, how could this have happened?" A mixture of anger and sadness overwhelm him.

Major Dhantri places a comforting hand on the young soldier's shoulder, "It'll be ok son, time'll heal this right on-"

Jack shakes his head, "With all due respect Major, [censored] time." He storms away with his woman in hand. Tears fly of his face as he walks away to solitude.

The young Weston awakens calmly on his right side. He hears the running water of a faucet. Sean is washing his face, "Bad dream?"

Jack sits up, "Not so much a dream as a flashback."

"I know what ya mean." The water stops running as the faucet is turned off. "Alright, today we go to Mick and Ralph's, and from there to the strip. You get dressed and I'll be downstairs in the lobby, possibly enjoying a complimentary town breakfast, I'll check. See you downstairs."

Jack watches his brother leave the room, and the soft florescent light crack the darkness of the chamber. The door is shut, and Jack breaks down. Fear and sadness overwhelm him and he cannot help but curl up it into a ball and sob. Why am I so scared?

Jack cries for ten minutes. Afterwards he slowly gets up, and washes his face. He gets dressed and goes to meet his brothers downstairs.

Sean looks to the King behind the counter, "You got any mutfruit or anything we can get for breakfast?"

The bartender nods, "We got some of that, fresh apples too, if your interested."

"Wow, I'll take two mutfruits, and two apples please." The Barteder goes back to get the fruit. Sean waits and when the bartender gets back he has the caps sitting on the counter. "Do you know where Mick and Ralph's is?"

"Sure, yeah, go straight through the gate there and take a right at the intersection. Continue on and take another right, then take the first left. You should see the sign clear as day."

Sean stows the two extra fruit away, "Thank you. Tell The King we thank him as well."

The bartender nods, "Will do."

--

Several minutes pass until Jack gets down from the suite. Sean hands him the fruit, "You okay brother man?"

Jack takes the breakfast, "Sure, yeah, let's go." He takes a bite of the granny smith apple. The juices caress his tongue like water after a drought. "Mmm, this is awesome."

"Didn't they teach you not to talk with food in your mouth?"

"Yes, mmmm, but sometimes you can't help it." He continues to bite into the fruit as they walk into the slum.

Frank Sinatra's Blue Moon is heard over the intercom. Sean hums to the tune of the beat.

Blue moon, you saw me standin' alone
Without a dream in my heart,
Without a love of my own

The brass blares.

Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me sayin' a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

They walk through the car gate and into the Fort's area. Glass shattering is heard in the distance of the fall morning. The sun shines down on Freeside like an old friend. The wind flaps debris through the city streets. Fights and screams are heard in the alleys of the ghetto.

They walk down the street. Over on the opposite sidewalk Sean sees a few children dining on a rat. Jack is still scarfing down his breakfast. "You know, it must have been awesome to just have these whenever ya want. Think of how they felt prewar ya know? These are so good."

Sean becomes quickly annoyed, "Ok, what's goin' on? Why are you making such a big deal out of the fruit? I had that and the mutfruit and my mouth wasn't exploding with joy. I'll ask one more time, what's going on?"

Jack is caught off guard. He chews the bite and swallows it. "Uh, what are you talking about? I'm a-ok."

"Bull, that right there, that was a lie, as was back at the school. Crack, something is getting at you." Sean glares upon his brother.

"You sure you wanna know?"

Sean's face loses all sense of happiness. He stares deep into his brother's soul.

"Ok, chill, goodness. I've, I've just been... Scared."

Sean's annoyance subsides and he gets close to his brother, "Scared? Hey, what you got to be scared of brother?"

"Death... and I cannot help but feel like we are inches from it. Sean how do you not feel scared of this? You show no sense of fear for death, the only man I've ever met to not be afraid of it."

Sean puts his hands on his brothers shoulders and looks into his eyes, "I do not fear death because I know where my soul rests when I finish the race. I fear for you though, because you do not know. That is why I pray everyday for your soul. So that you may come to know Him. Only then will your fear of death subside." He removes his hands from Jack's shoulders.

Jack is surprised, "You, you've been praying for me?"

Sean nods with wise, caring eyes. He looks to his right, "Oh look, it's Mick and Ralph's." The red head smiles and heads toward it.

Jack collects himself from that brother to brother moment and follows. The sign lights to life as the clock strikes 9 am.

Sean opens the door and a little old bell rings as the door hits it. Jack steps in and Sean closes it, sounding the bell once more. He looks around to see one man tinkering in the back with something. To his right he sees a lit lamp.

Under this light is a man who is fiddling with an object. He looks up and it looks as though he has been up for two days. The bags look heavy under his eyes.

Jack approaches, "Morning, The King wanted us to get a card for access to The Strip-"

The working man interjects, "Yeah yeah yeah, a messenger came by last night. Told me The King granted access for y'all to remove that sonuva[censored] from office. He's been bad for business. Almost done here.... Ok, all set." He places the card on the counter and stands up. "Now if you excuse me, I'll me taking be retiring for the day." He shuts off the lamp.

Jack grabs the card and pockets it. Sean waves at the card maker, "Thank you!"

The man waves back as he stumbles forward step by step, "Better make it worth my while by killin' that bastard, GOOD NIGHT!" He slowly stomps up the stairs.

"Nice guy, you ready Jack?"

Jack looks to Sean, "Yeah."

The tinkering man in the back of the room booms, "Y'all come back now!"

Sean smiles, "Will do." He opens the door, the bell rings, Jack steps through and is followed by Sean. The door swings shut and the bell rings one last time.

A bum ghoul to their left speaks in a gravelly voice, "Hey, you got some extra caps?"

Jack looks to his brother. Without missing a beat Sean grabs a handful and gives them to the ghoul, "Stretch it out ok?"

The ghoul is wide eyed with shock, "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

Sean walks back toward Jack and continues the trek toward The Strip. Jack is astounded, "What made you just give him money?"

Sean looks to his brother with those same wise eyes he had earlier, "The good in me."

--

Thirteen minutes later the brothers stand in front of a securitron. Jack shows the card like he's an officer of the law. Sean looks to him, "Just hold it like a normal person please." Jack stops holding it in the former manner.

The securitron accepts the card, "You are free to enter The Strip, enjoy your stay."

The brothers try to step forward but they are stopped by the securitron. They step back and Sean looks up, "Hey-" He is surprised to see a familiar face. "Whoa, your even creepier on a television screen."

The securitron shows the angelic face of Anton Castle, "Haha, very funny. I'm going to let you run around The Strip, you two are of no threat to me. I've been talking to House, he's not a very happy guy, that geezer."

Jack laughs, "What does he say, dike?"

Castle ignores this insult and responds, "[censored] you, no I'm serious. That's all he usually has to say, I thought he'd be a pretty nice guy but in some ways he's worse than me ya know?"

Sean shakes his head, "Stop torturing the poor soul."

Laughter erupts from the securitron, "Hahahaha, please, you should know me better than that Weston. I'm gonna talk to him forever, he might say hi, eventually. Anyways, y'all go have fun."

Sean is confused by this. He looks at Jack, quickly shakes his head, and shrugs. Jack shrugs with him. They enter sunlit strip of New Vegas.

WC Episode 12

I've Got You Under My Skin

The two have entered the strip. It is mid-day and Marty Robbins Big Iron hums over the radio intercom. The long, intimidating strip rests before them. The neon lights do not shine in the rays of the sun. A female advertiser of Gommorah dances just outside the resort. She wears black minishorts; black high heels; and black x-taped nipble stickers, and she is far off. Sean shakes his head and tells his brother, "Now that is disgusting, but it's not her fault she will sell herself like that."

Jack looks over and smiles, "I think she's pretty. She got a quality about her."

The elder brother laughs out loud at this, "Is that quality her... skin? Hahahehehaaaa!"

Jack crosses his arms as they approach the Lucky 38, and Gommorah. He nods, "Yes, in fact, it is her skin. It's got that... cream color to it."

"Haha, your not serious are you? Really? Cream color, wow..." He smiles as he shakes his head. "I'm sorry brother but that's just funny." They continue to march. Sean recomposes himself, "Jack, we can't lose ourselves here, got have a mission to accomplish."

Jack acknowledges this, "I know." The two stomp down the strip. They approach The Tops to their right. In the distance, Jack sees a woman, this girl seems as if she's a ghost from his past. He looks to his brother, "Did you just see that... nevermind."

"If your talking about that hot blonde nuke, 2 o'clock, then yes I see her. She is smokin'." Sean looks to his brother, "Not like that advertisemant back there, haha!"

"I know she's beautiful, I know who that is!" The woman sees him from far off. She stands just outside of Vault 21. The women dashes inside the hotel. Jack tries to stop her, "Hey!!"

He sprints toward the experimental chamber, and Sean runs after him to keep up. As they chase Mr. New Vegas is heard overhead, "Vault 21! Everything is better when you experience it in a vault."

The men reach the entrance to the vault-turned-hotel. The Westons step through the slightly opened door. Both are panting from the quick sprint. Sean holds up a hand to get Jack's attention as he pants, "What," He breathes heavy, "Why are you chasing this woman?"

The blonde receptionist steps before them. "Hello, can I help you?" She holds a led pipe in her hand.

Jack sees the look in her eyes, "Mam' please excuse us. There is a female that entered this vault. I'd like to take a tour please."

The receptionist in the Vault 21 jumpsuit remains calm. She points to the sign on the wall and recites it, "I have the right to refuse service to anyone." The blonde's eyes begin to dart about, "Besides, I have no clue who you're talking about."

Jack becomes more infuriated. He clenches his fists, "Step aside please, before I do something I might regret."

Sean grabs Jack's shoulder, "Hey, I don't know who you're talking about, but maybe we should go." He steps in front of Jack and tries to cool him down, and back him out.

The younger brother relentlessly pushes past his brother and dodges a swing from the woman seems to be the hotel owner. Jack rushes down the stairs. In the lobby the woman taps the lead pipe on her left palm.

Sean apologizes to the miss, "I am really sorry, I have no idea what's gotten into him." He awkwardly moves past her and chases his brother.

The red head follows his brother. Jack stands at a crossroads. Sean is still catching up when his brother yells, "I go right, you go left."

"Aaaagh, what is going on with you? Wait up!" The yelling of the brothers resonate off the steel walls.

His adrenaline pumps. Jack dashes around every corner and down each step with a fiery burst of dramatic passion. "Where are you?!" He stands above the common room, and listens carefully. The man hears his brothers footsteps echo on the steel through the dry air. Another noise fills the cold halls, the sound of a room door. Jack bolts for the source of the sound.

Sean is panting as he tries to catch his brother. He is in extreme physical shape, but Jack's long legs out do him when it comes to speed. The sound of a radio crackles to life, it rings Frank Sinatra's I've Got You Under My Skin.

I'd sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of havin' you near
In spite of a warnin' voice that comes in the night
And repeats, repeats in my ear:
Don't you know, you fool, you never can win?
Use your mentality, wake up to reality.
But each time that I do just the thought of you
Makes me stop before I begin
'Cause I've got you under my skin.

Jack chases after the radio. He can barely hear someone else's breathing, besides his brothers, fill the vault. The former Corporal follows this faint noise. He begins hear the light footsteps pitter patter in what sounds like combat boots. He turns one corner and quickly goes around another.

He has caught the woman, and she now stands feet away. They stand Mano-e-Mano. The woman relaxes as she ceases to capture. Sean catches up just in time to see the face-off. Jack cannot believe his eyes, "Brittania?"

Sean stands to his brother's right. A look of realization strikes him, "Oh [censored]."

That was good. Not a lot to complain about, it was fast paced, easy to follow, and ended with a nice cliffhanger. I spotted a missing comma here and there, but that's irrelevant, it was a great chapter. I can't remember the name Brittania from any previous chapters, so count me in as catched. I liked this one, I really don't know where your taking this, so await to find out.

If you go back far enough, on the march TO Vegas, I think you'll see Brittania February come up as Jack's former lover. Back when he was in NCR. She ended up becoming a pile of ash. In that dream in had in Episode 11 he held te coffee can in his arms, it "was" her. It kinda shows why he was chasing after this ghost, and why Sean said what he said.

Ive gotten to where I don't expect anyone to reply anymore. Which is a good thing cause I'll keep writing whether anyone reads or posts or not.

Ah, I see. It rang a bell, and I went back to search for it, but I couldn't find it. Thanks for clearing that up, this has been quite the long saga.

So you don't even expect to reply anymore? We'll I'm glad your not giving up, a lot of people do for a lot less than you. You hardly get any comments, but you don't complain like some other people, so I commend you for your unwavering dedication.

WC Episode 13

I'm in a Steel Chamber...

Jack stares at Brittania confused, "Sean," he begins to breathe heavy, "Am I, bluh, am I," he becomes slightly hysterical, "Am I alive Sean?"

Sean puts two fingers to his brothers neck, he feels a pulse. He removes the fingers, shakes his head, and sighs, "Oh Jack, I'm no Doctor, and I'm sorry to be the one to have to tell you this. You are alive and perfectly healthy as far as I can tell, and yes, this is really happening. Please, try to stay calm."

Jack begins to shake his head quickly and tears begin to well up in his eyes. Brittania holds her hand out to his, "Jack, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have ran, but I didn't do it because I wanted to. I did it because it would have been best for him."

Jacks eyes begin to show his melting pot of emotions, "Him, you were cheating on me?" She shakes her head, "You cheated on me and you thought faking your death would be best?!"

The woman walks over to him, "That's not what I said Jack. I want you to meet someone."

Jack becomes more upset with her even passing second. Sean puts his hand on his shoulder to try and calm him. The miss of the company walks over to the corner of the hall and sticks her hand past the turn. A small, white hand firmly grasps it.

Who step out makes Jack go pale like God himself just stepped down and gave him a wake up call. He begins to breath heavier and becomes evermore hysterical. He sees a little boy, with dirty blonde hair who looks like very much like him. Jack swiftly brings his hand to his forehead, when skin meets skin its as if someone smacked him.

Sean looks to Jack, "Hold up now, don't freak out. This is not the end of the world, shoot, that already happened anyways so what's the worst that can happen?"

Jack looks to Sean and shakes his head crazily. He begins to back away as the mother and son approach him. The overwhelmed man darts of away from the situation springed upon him.

Sean shrugs his shoulders, "I'm sorry Brittania. I myself would be freaked out too, but I can tell he is not my child."

Brittania gives a curt smile, "Yeah, you must be Sean. You brother told me all about you, at least what he'd remembered you being like, and rumors he'd heard. Do you think he'll come around?" She extends her left hand in greeting.

Sean shakes the hand, the soft skin reminds him of his mother from all those years ago. "Yes, he should, I'll go to talk to him. What a heckuva springer you were today huh?" He gives a friendly smile.

Brittania nods, "Yeah, I'm gonna take the little guy back to our room. We are on the west side of the vault."

Sean nods in understanding, "What's the little tykes name anyways?"

She smiles as the name comes to mind of her what looks to be toddler, "Jackson Daniels."

Sean's lips read wow, "Well I'll be, named after his father and uncle, good choice. Well anyway I'm gonna go find him." She nods and the duo begin walking to their room. Sean turns in the direction Jack dashes off, "Hey Jack, where you head to?"

Sean listens as he hears his brothers reply yelled back through the halls, "I'm in a steel chamber of feeling, GRAH!" He hears his brother begin to sob as emotions overwhelm his mentality. The red head seeks where he thinks the voice reverberated from.

He jogs slowly up to his brother curled up as a ball in a corner. "Jack, your not doing so well huh?"

The new father's head is behind his knees thus muffling his voice, "What do you think? I just found out the woman I loved for the better part of a few years is alive after I believed her dead for two." Jack looks up at his brother from behind his knees.

Sean sits next to his brother. "Well if I know anything about you, I know you won't let things destroy you. You might let them get you down, but you are forever enduring. Have you been reading that book?" Jack nods, Sean replies to this, "Well then see? You know that God will turn you into the man you need to be, and the father he wants you to be. Jack, brother, I want you to know I will be here to help you adjust to this newfound responsibility. I think you told me a saying once: Adapt, Overcome, Survive. You will do those things, I know it. There is something else you will also do besides those, and it's love. If I know you, and I certainly think I do 'cause if I don't we have a problem," He gets a smile from his younger brother, "Is that you are going to make a great, no, outstanding father, and if you plan on now, husband."

Jack looks over to his brother, "Thank you Sean." He puts his head on his brothers shoulder.

Sean puts his arms around his brother, "There now, we will help you adapt to this."

A while later, the family sits in Brittania's room. Jack has recuperated from his dramatic play, and he looks down upon his son playing with a Nuka Cola Truck and Sarsaparilla Cowboy. He looks up to Brittania's eyes, the blue eyes brilliantly shine in the dim vault light. Jack ponders, "How did you do it?"

Brittania looks up as she realizes he is speaking to her, "Well, when I found out I was pregnant I talked with my squad leader. We both came up with the idea to fake my death. Now there really was a Viper gang that we scuffled with, but we put ashes of another body in the can. I entrusted my entire squad to secrecy, and from what we see today they lived up to the core vales." She curls her bottom lip inward as she thinks back to it.

Sean smiles as he shakes his head, "Look at us, a buncha deserters."

The three advlts shale their head and laugh at this. Jack smiles, "Well, it's a good thing not a soul in the Mojave cares whether we were Legion or NCR."

The two other advlts simultaneously say, "Yeah," at this. The three watch as the young toddler plays with his toys in the old vault.

WC Episode 14

... Blow Your Mind

The rest of that day Jack was introduced to his son, and they played Nuka Cola Truck run over the Sarsaparilla Cowboy. Jack and Britannia would begin to re-ignite their love for one another. Jack told her what happened over the past couple years during his adventures before, and since he and Sean found each other. Britannia informed Jack on how his son had aged here in New Vegas. He learned that the boy spent most of the time in the vault, or at his uncle Michael's shop. Jackson also spent time with the receptionist, who he knew as Aunt Sarah. The young woman told him of what she has done for work, and it's mainly work in the Vault such as housekeeping and reception. The brothers met Sarah, and Jack apologized for his rudeness earlier.

They now sleep under the steel curtain of Vault Tech shelter...

Sean sleeps on his stomach. In the bed opposite him Jack snoozes. The elder son suddenly jolts awake due to a familiar presence. His vision is blurry, but he sees the dim shine of the old man. A mixture of fear; safety; respect; love; and many other emotions pervade his soul.

Sean rubs his eyes and sits up on his bed. His physique is shown by the dim light. Muscle is easily visible due to much walking. He sits in his black boxer briefs. The man brings his hand to his eyes to try and shield his eyes from the dim, yet powerful brightness. He wonders, How is Jack not waking up?

"Because Sean, he does not sense my presence as keenly as you. Unlike you, he is but an infant in the faith, much like his son is a toddler. That was quite amusing how you referred to young Britannia as a springer."

"Amusing, how so? I was just stating the fact that she had sprung a lot on Jack in mere seconds." Sean sits up with his back straight and hands on his large thighs.

"Oh Sean, if I were to tell you who Springer is and how he exists at all, it would blow your mind. I mean that in the most literal and figurative sense." The old man stands with hands behind his back. He wears the same attire as before: all white clothing. "Imagine, if you will, you live in a layer of cake. You live in the middle layer. Do you think a layer within that cake is aware of the other layers?"

The redhead shakes his head, "No."

"Good thinking, and to add to it: for every choice made there is one outcome or many other outcomes. Making very many similar, yet very different cakes." The old man nods his head in omniscient-ness.

Sean nods in confusion, "I'll take your word on that."

"I thought you would. On to other matters. Sean, you must not let Castle die," The Old Man says this with conviction.

Sean is confused, "Oh, Uh, I thought we were suppose to end his terror? How else can we quell the evil within him?"

The Old Man's expression has not changed at all in this meeting. The seriousness is seen as he speaks, "There are other ways son. You have learned well in the past ten years. Use the resources you have gained. You can defeat the evil without killing the good within."

Sean shakes his head, "How can there be any good within him? Look at what he did at Broken Heart. Look at what he's done here. We can't let that evil destroy people's lives, and I most cannot let him destroy my brothers family."

The Old Man nods, "Yes, I know this. You still choices to make Fire Warrior. You and your brother have bonded to the strength at which you will need to restore him."

Sean stands, "What do you mean restore? He seems to be pure evil."

"Exactly Sean, he seems. He is not entirely evil, I assure you," he continues to stand with an intimidating relaxation.

Sean crosses his arms and shakes his head, "How do you propose we do this?"

The outstanding figure is like a statue, "Engage him in meaningful conversation Young Weston."

"Ok, by that you mean convince him there is good in him?" Sean puts his hands on his hips and extends his right foot which begins tapping on the deck.

The monolith slightly smiles, and disappears right before Sean's eyes. The fiery red head stands stupefied. He whispers, "Who are you?"

A voice deep from within himself replies, You Know...

--

It is morning and Jack sits at the table with mother of his child, and son. He eats breakfast with them. As he eats he watches as his son grasps the eating of solids. He is quite amusing to see how amazed the babe is at how eat can bite down and crush the food he eats with his new enamel. The baby slams his tiny fork and spoon in hand on the table and furiously eats his food. He shows his teeth as he does, and a little mush gushes from these choppers.

The couple watch their son sitting across from them. Britannia twiddles a lock of hair with her right hand. She looks from her son to the babe's father. As she does this a blissful smile arises on her face. She kisses Jack on the cheek.

The young man is caught of guard by this sudden touch of lips on skin. He hasn't felt this in years and the memories of his time with her come rushing back to him. He looks over to Britannia and firmly grasps her hand, "I will never leave you." She lays her head on his chest, and the two watch as their son playfully eat his food.

--

The sun shines upon the Sin City. Sean looks up at the looming roulette of the Lucky 38. Three securitrons stand guard outside the closed stronghold. Sean steps forward. The denim jacket shields him from the strong morning wind. His jeans comfortably move with his legs. As he walks the stomp of his boots thump with each step.

The Fire Warrior approaches the head securitron. Sean watches as the face of a cowboy rolls up and is replaced by his adversary. "Weston, what brings you to these parts? And where is your brother?"

"You will not worry about my brother. I come before you to talk, might I come upstairs to do this?"

Laughter emanates from the speakers of the securitron, "What? Haven't you heard? This is closed to the public. If you find an alternate route in, then sure. I'll give you props and you can have your audience, other than you are not coming up."

Sean furiously shakes his head and thrusts his pointer finger before the screen of the robot, "Hey! You won't even show the respect to me for us to just talk? You are-" as he continues to yell at the securitron the screen begins to roll up and Castle mocks Sean with laughter.

The Bull is fuming, "Grah! Gah dangit!" The fiery red head huffs and puffs. He runs his fingers through his red locks as he blazes away.

--

The Bull pounds down into the Vault. Reaching the family, he sits down next to Jackson. His brother takes notice of the flustered red head, "Your looking awfully red this morning."

Britannia sits up concerned, and slightly confused, "Sean, that is kinda the known policy of the Lucky 38. No one ever goes in, I mean... I hear a Mojave Express Courier did a few times, but he disappeared after the culmination of the war. However, there is another way to get into the fortress."

Sean's left eyebrow rises, "What are you talkin' about?"

Britannia shrugs, "I would think there would have been a courtyard, like the other resorts, because I mean look. It's the Lucky 38, and it has those walls, maybe if you were to get back behind those, maybe there is a back door."

"That's a good idea sis, Jack we need to try that."

Jack disagrees, "Brother, I don't think I should instigate him. If he knows about these two he might try for a low blow."

Sean insists, "Jack, he will find out about them either way. When he does, do you want to say you didn't try to stop him? Or you let him come?"

The young father ponders his situation. He looks at Britannia, she responds, "Jack, you've come this far, finish the race."

Jack looks at his son, who is still playfully eating his food. "Sean, alright, let's finish this."

The Fire Warrior nods and abruptly stands. He growls, "Time to stack up and throw down this punk-ass Castle!"

The toddler looks to his uncle, "Ah-" the father tries to reach out as if trying to catch something very fragile before it shatters- "ss?"

Jack's hand goes limp and he lowers his head, "He just said ass didn't he?"

Britannia pats her baby's daddy on the back, "Yes."

Jack sullenly shakes his head, "Was that his first word?"

Britannia purses her lips, "Yeap."

WC Episode 15

My Name Is...

The two men climb down into the sewers. Sean steps into the water and feels a slight tingle, he steps out because he realizes the water is most likely irradiated. Jack hops down, Sean whispers to him, "Try and stay out of the water, it's irradiated."

Jack squints at Sean, and whispers, "Thank you. You know you inspired my son's first word?"

Sean shrugs and moves his head from left to right, "Yeah, I know. I apologize for that. I'm not making an excuse, but I was still upset with Castle."

"I know, if Jack wasn't around it probably would have been funny." The two hear splashing in the water. Something, or several things are coming there way. Sean unsheathes Redmption, and the sound of The Mother's Magnum is heard being pulled from it's holster.

Water splashes as rats come screeching around the corner. Jack pops the first rat in it's tiny skull. Sean steps forward and as the second rat jumps he brings the heel of his boot down swiftly and crushes the skull. Jack puts down the final two rodentia.

Westons move forward into the stench of the sewers. As they walk they step over the small stream of green liquid. Jack walks with a new confidence. He no longer carries the fear of death as he once did. Sean can see this, thus he smiles.

Jack does feel a small bit of paranoia that Castle could find his family, but he buries it. The two step through a doorway. Sean hears something to his left.

Sean readies Redemption to his left. He sees a match lit, and it brought up to light a cigarette. The redhead sees a man with a square race, smooth cheeks. The figure has black hair, wears a black sports coat; black shirt with top two buttons undone; and black slacks and dress shoes. He looks up at the dynamic duo, "Hello, my name is Johnny Caps. Where do you two think your going?" He has a very deep, almost gravelly voice. He stands as tall as Sean, but with an average build.

Jack raises his weapon, "Why should we trust you?"

Sean eases his brother's arm down, "Well for one, he has not attacked us yet."

The man in black let's out a puff, "There's a rumor going around, you two trying to takedown that sonuva[censored] Castle. Well I know a way into his stronghold."

Sean looks to him, "Interesting, would you be willing to show us this way?"

John nods, "Yes, I have some personal business to take care of with him." The mystery man leads to way. Sean sees a sniper rifle on the man's back. Etched into the wood of this rifle are the letters that read Jebb's Rifle.

Jack looks down to watch his step. He darts his eyes up to see where John is headed, "Excuse me Caps, but what's your beef with the enemy?"

Caps sighs at this question. He flicks his cigarette butt into the sewage water, "He killed my family, and my brother, Jebb. So you could could call it a beef, but I call it a full grown brhamin."

Sean's eyes become wide. With that anger and hate, he wants to kill him. I mustn't let this happen, however, I cannot drop him. He knows which way to go, so he will guide us.

John stops before a ladder. He turns around, "This ladder will take us up to the basemant. Be ready, there are two securitrons on patrol. Watch out, because they fire nine millimeter rounds; they have a grenade launcher; rocket launchers; and for a cherry on top they fire lasers."

Sean shrugs, "Great, cause I wanted to die before I go and end the reign of a tyrant." Jack smiles at this smart remark.

Johnny climbs up, lifts the manhole, and moves it to the side. He pulls himself up, into the basemant. Sean and Jack soon follow.

The three men stand there when they hear two robotic voices, "HALT!" The two securitrons roll before them, the right bucket helmet screen speaks, "Lower your weapons before we are forced to take action. You are not permitted to be in this area, leave before you are neutralized."

Sean holds Redemption in his right hand. He looks to Johnny, and then to Jack. The two men look back in turn. The redhead shrugs and looks to the guards, "You can take your halt and shove it!"

The Bull jumps at the wheeled robot and thrusts his blade through the television screen. Glass shatters and sprays the concrete deck. Sparks fly from the incapacitated machine. Jack and Johnny unload on the second securitron. Rounds hits the target, and a few rounds later it hits the deck with smoke rising from it's shell.

The musketeers step over the scraps of metal. In view is a massive firewall. Jack bolsters his weapon, "I can crack that." The father dashes over to the force field. He looks around, to his right is is a steel covering. The "computer wiz" gets to work.

Sean and Johnny slowly follow. As they approach the wall, it fizzles and disappears. The three men hop onto the balcony and call the elevator. Johnny reloads, "Let's stop by the Casino Lounge. I'm gonna look around." The bell rings and the Lucky 38 doors slide open. The men step into the box.

Several moments later the bell rings and the doors slide open. Victor the Cowboy securitron delivers greetings as shots are fired. His screen fizzles away as he dies. Sean charges the securitron on the left, Jack and Caps take down the securitron on the right.

The Fire Warrior pulls his weapon the metal. The screens fizzle away on each guard. Jack reunites with his brother, "Ok, well Jonny, we will see you up there I guess."

Caps slings the rifle around his shoulder, "Yeap, see ya." They can distract him while I put a bullet in his brain. The brothers take their leave and take the elevators upstairs for the final confrontation.

That was awesome.

I still love the interaction in between the brothers, very nice. The baby and Britannia coming back where unexpected twists, and it seems to be really picking up a pace here, as everything is coming to an end in an epic conclusion, I'm sure. Of all your characters, I like Sean the most, there is something about him, how you portray him, the just me click with him. I feel for him more than the rest of the characters, and I'll acutally be sad if he dies(which I'm kinda of expecting, all my favorite characters have died in every story I've read thus far). Not to say I wouldn't miss Jack, especially now that he has a son(nice name by the way).

This is coming to a close and I love it! There always this feeling for me when were near the fold, like being in a race and seeing the finish line up ahead, I eagerly await for when we cross it. Until then...

Thank you very much Yttrium. I actually did not think about Sean dying. Thank it's a wild idea and I'll have to actually process and see the ramifications it would have on the world he lives in. Thank you very much Yttrium, I have a lot to think about.

Thoroughly enjoyed this WolfMan. Didn't see Britannia coming at all. The scenes with the toddler were nice too.

I think you should break up some of your paragraphs - like when you switch from Sean to Jack you should use a new paragraph -its a technical thing but it makes it easier to differentiate who's doing what. ;)

The addition of Caps threw me for a bit of loop - how did he happen to be down there at that time? Is he going to be developed later on, or is this the 'final' battle coming up?

Anway, as I said, good read. You're getting better and better the more you write and it shows. I really respect the fact that you've kept this up and seem determined to finish it - no easy task - so thumbs up :tops:

WC Episode 16

If Something Should Happen... I Finished The Race

It was a fateful day in the Mojave. The Sunday had started out just like any other beautiful Mojave morning. The crows were crowing; the sand was rolling; the fiends were wreaking random chaos. The Caps family were enjoying a fine, normal day.

Mrs. Caps had been making lunch for her three children, her working husband, and brother-in-law. Jebb was working on cleaning his sniper rifle. The woman of the house exclaimed, "Lunch is ready."

Out of the silence of the day a harbinger of destruction unleashed his evil upon the family, "Don't mind if I do miss." Castle had forcefully merged himself into the life of Johnny Caps, the father; husband. From that day forth he would be known as "The Man in Black."

Afterwards Johnny took what he could from home, what would come of use. He moved to the sewers where the New Vegas residents inhabited. Every so often he would do some fights for Red Lucy. Johnny also ran some errands for her that involved restocking The Thorn.

This morning show of Radio New Vegas had started, "Good morning New Vegas, its me, Mr. New Vegas. Reports suggest there was a strange redhead trying to talk his way into the Lucky 38. This might have been one of the two men I spoke of yesterday. We heard rumors yesterday that there were two vigilantes seeking the end of malevolent overlord. Here's a classic Marty Robbins comin' your way, Big Iron."

That had enticed his curiosity. This keen interest led the cat to the sewers located beneath The Strip.

He now stands in the lobby of the lobby of the Lucky 38.

--

The elevator bell rings and Sean leads the way.

Jack is nervous, but also extremely anxious for what his brother just opened up to him.

The penthouse seems to be empty of securitrons. Sean looks out and sees nothing. A serene aura is about him. This aura is almost palpable. A calm is within him that cannot be destroyed. He harbors no harsh feeling toward Castle.

From another room someone exclaims, "In here." The brothers walk over to their left. Castle stands in front of a massive computer, "It was so quiet in here that I could hear the elevator ring. I welcome you to my humble abode."

Sean glares down upon the bent man. He pities the man before him. The redhead slowly walks down the stairs. With each step echoes the sound of his boots upon the steel.

Jack follows his brother with nervous eyes. A frown rises to his face. What was all that about? Those words weigh heavy on his soul. His older brother made it seem like this was his last moments as a dweller of this world.

Anton Castle wears almost the same suit as he did when originally meeting the brothers. The only things different are the navy blue dress shirt, and dark orange solid tie. He smiles with exuberance at his guests, "Welcome! As promised, Sean, I told you if you get into this place I'd give you an audience. Well here you are. Now what is it you want?"

The challengers stand before the enemy. The elder brother steps forward, "We are here to end this."

Anton puts his hand to his chest as he laughs, "Oh, haha! That's classic right there. The heroes come marching in to storm the castle, oooooh, I'm so scared." He mocks the two challengers with more laughter.

The man of faith shuts the mockery up, "For the weapons or our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds."

The smile on Anton's mug disappears, "You can try whatever weapons you like, you won't be able to no matter what you use. While you were taking your sweet ass time getting here, I was busy. I worked on an auto-doc and improved it a thousand fold. Afterwards I had it precisely remove the PHOENIX Monocyte Breeder that the sultry Doctor Usanagi implanted. I worked on this and improved it to 100% efficiency. Then I had the auto-doc put it back in me. Now i have a restorative element. Haha, I could take a rocket from a fat man to the chest, and walk away. Sure it'll take a couple minutes to heal up, and for my ribs to grow back, but I'd be fine."

Jack's eyes widen, "Ah, Sean, you got any ideas?"

The seriousness on Sean's face is evident, "Jack, this is the day that Anton Castle dies."

Jack scoffs, "Really!?"

Castle has to hold himself up, "Hahahehaha! Oh my gosh, I just told you not even a rocket could take me down. Eh, and, and you spew out that trash." He laughs so hard he has to wipe a tear from his eye. "I'm going to enjoy killing the both of you. It'll be a bit sad when you two are dead though, no one will challenge me."

Jack flicks the magnum from it's holster and aims it at his enemy.

Sean lightly places his right hand on his brother's firing arm.

Jack begins to lower his arm in confusion. What?

Sean engages Castle with meaningful conversation, "Anton, I know there is good in you. Once, the man we see before us was an innocent child. Am I right? You had a mother, a father, you had a family. What happened to quell that good within you. To have it strangled by the evil within you? Why do you wreak havoc on this wasteland?"

Both Castle and Jack squint at this.

The confused tyrant responds, "Wha? What are you doing?"

Deep within the recess of Castle's mind two figures engage each other on a giant compass. The tiny minuscule warrior on the right is dressed in light blue and white. This champion represents the good and innocence within Anton. Opposite of this ant stands an ogre in crimson red and black. This creature represents the evil and corruption within the bent man.

Sean continues his verbal assault. His words rattle the foundation of his opponent, "Anton, there is so much potential in you to do good. Look at all the destruction you've done. Imagine the good you could do in contradiction to that." Sean opens his arms and slowly approaches the confounded tyrant.

Castle's childhood memories begin to flood the streets of his mind. Images of his mother and father pop up. He cringes at these photos. The memories of his mother attack the wall built by the demonic ogre. Mental recordings of his father-son moments begin to crack at the masonry of the evil.

Jack raises his arms, "Sean, what are you doing?!"

The elder brother looks back and answers, "Brother, I am saving a man's soul here, watch and learn." The Bull turns his attention back to the wounded soul.

Castle begins to realize what going on. He slams his cane to the ground, "Stop what you are doing. Dammit Weston! !" Anton attacks his enemy.

Sean does not rip Redemption from it's sheath. Instead, he swiftly dodges the furious swings with expertise.

The Fire Warrior combats this fury with homily, "You can still turn back. Grace extends from the fiends, all the way up to the saints of this world. You still have time to reserve your seat in the Kingdom of Heaven."

Realization arises within Jack. Oh [censored], he's really doing it.

The eldest brother continues his campaign against the stronghold, "You gotta drop the anger and the hate before you can become good. Anton, you can be a Champion of Light in this wasteland of oppression. No longer do you have to be this Demon of Decadence."

The devil in the faltering disguise begins fuming. He roars, "Fight me!" He tries to kick the ginger back, but the surprisingly nimble Weston jumps back. Castle clenched his fist, improving his hand into the cane, "You [censored] weak little [censored]! Come here!"

--

Johnny locks the final round into the chamber. The doors of the elevator open, he steps out of the steel box. He holds the rifle vertical. Caps attaches a noise suppressor to the barrel of his weapon. The Man in Black checks his scope one last time to make sure the sights are in order.

Once John is satisfied, he walks over to the dividing wall. In his sights fight the two distracting drones, and the murderer of his family. Johnny lines up his rifle against the edge of the wall. The suppressor adds a weight not usual to him. His bicep tightens as he holds the weapon steady.

The Man in Black's height adds a considerable advantage. He is able to see the playing field with quite clarity. He looks through the scope at and sees the back of Castle's skull. The white blasted back hair covers the skin about to be punctured.

--

Jack parries the swing. He stabs at his opponent and cuts several threads in the man's white vest.

The raging hulk knocks the Young Weston away with a kick to the chest.

Sean walks up behind Castle and taps him on the shoulder. He quickly steps back to dodge the heaving swing. "I'm not gonna hurt you Anton, if you let that evil decay you anymore, you will live forever as a lonely old man. You will die as the last vestige of what's left of humanity, and you will die alone."

Castle swings down on his enemy.

The Fire Warrior rips Redemption from it's sheath and blocks the strike, and grinds the cane away. He rolls to the left, when Sean stands he sees the glint of gunmetal black on his right. The former Frumentarii recognizes the man holding this scoped rifle.

Jack dashes at Castle. He launches off the deck and holds the KA-BAR in hand ready strike.

Castle captures the flying Weston and lifts the man overhead. He slams the young Weston with all his strength back first onto the deck.

Jack is slammed into the deck. His breath is forced from his lungs. The former corporal drops his father's KA-BAR and grasps at his chest. He remembers his medical training so he starts the process of trying to catch his breath.

Castle stomps forward to end his enemy's plight. He grits his teeth. As he steps forward, he sees the reflection of the sun shine off the metal of a rifle. His jaw drops as he hears the trigger pulled back.

Adrenaline is injected into his body. Sean charges as the taurus he is toward his adversary. He shoves Anton Castle with all his life force to get the twisted man out of the way. The bent man stumbles from the path of the lifetaker.

--

Time freezes as Sean's last thoughts are caught in the hourglass of eternity. Familiar words arise during his last breath on this plane of existence, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

The brother delivers one final prayer, Dear Lord, I come to you this day, on the eve of my life. I have come to understand that the old man was you, and thought you guided me along the path of righteousness. I hope in you that I have planted the seed of faith in my brother. Enough so that Britannia can reflect the rays of your goodness and help turn him into the husband and father you wish him to be. I pray that my young nephew grows up into the man you need him to be. In you I lay the future of the bent man that is Anton Castle. I hope that I have done your will, and that I have broken the evil that resides in him. I pray that through this extension of your son's sacrifice, he will see the light. Amen

Sean's life flashes before his eyes. Mental pictures run before him like a moving picture. He sees his beautiful mother. The babe lies in his mother's arms as he receives nourishment. A still later his brother is born. He holds him for the first time. Another picture and Sean sees his father tossing him into he air and catching him as he fall to earth. The movie continues and he sees his childhood blink by. He is 12 now, and his parents' lives are taken by the very man that becomes a father figure, and mentor. Looking back at Aegidius, Sean feels no anger. Another still arrives and he has earned the title of Recruit Taurus Aurelius. More stills pass, he watches as he is promoted to Veteran. Sean remembers the training of deception and the act of forgiveness.

The living movie continues, Sean watches as his mentor and father figure if crushed beneath the foot of a legendary deathclaw. Stills pass and he is promoted to the Legion rank of Frumentarii. Time passes within the clips. Sean is given orders to go behind enemy lines and bug the NCR radio. A still later and he reunites with his little brother.

The two float down the Colorado. They reach Broken Heart Hotel and meet a man by the name of Alan, nicknamed "Memphis Flash" by his mentor: The King. The three men remove Anton Castle as head of hotel. Sean leads his brother to Vegas, and helps him grow as a man.

The older brother teaches his little brother the act of faith. Shows him the meaning of love and forgiveness. Demonstrates soul saving, and helps Jack move past his fears. Sean helps his younger brother recuperate from his future thrust upon him. He also reassures Jack that he will become the man he needs to be. The last major snippet is of himself telling his brother the most powerful things gifted to man.

--

Jack catches his breath just as the round flying above pierces his brother's skin. He watches as the bullets cracks through the skull like paper maché. The blood from his brother's new orifice splatters to his face.

Sean's last words of wisdom reverberate within his mind.

--

The doors close as the brothers are moved up in the steel box. Sean steps to the front of Jack and looks through the windows to his brother's soul. "Jack, there are things you need to know." He grabs his brother by the shoulders. He points at Jack, "What you have with Britannia is something special. Love like that only comes once in a generation. The only other people I know that were as in love as you two are now was out parents. If you feel extreme emotional pain ever, she will know. You two are kindred souls destined from heaven. God tied you two together from the moment he began time. If something should happen, she will know."

The redhead places his palm on his brothers chest, "During my time on this earth I have discovered the two most powerful things in existence: forgiveness, second only to love. Jack, if something happens you must forgive him, or you will become the very tyrant we are trying to takedown."

Sean imprints these words into his brothers soul, "Jack, remember, I will always love you."

--

Jack's heart trembles at the sight of his brother sacrificing himself for someone who doesn't even deserve it. He watches as Sean's empty hulk of mass falls to the floor. The younger brother clutches his chest. Emotional chaos and pain steamroll his mind, body, and soul.

--

Britannia rocks her child to sleep. Under the steel curtain a sudden deep grief strikes her. She grasps her heart as the image of Sean leaving this world flashes in her mind. Tears begin to waterfall from her eyes as he feels her lover's pain. The you woman takes hold of the small cross under her shirt.

--

Johnny Caps hangs his head, I have taken the life of an innocent man, I am no better than Castle. He sets off running to wake from the nightmare. He presses the button to the elevator. As the doors open a blood curdling; soul wrenching screech wails from the room of the dead man.

--

Anton Castle's mind is on the fritz. Back on the compass, the White Knight holds his shield stalwart against the devilish demon. What the two see on a large screen shows the redheaded Weston sacrificing his own life for the man they reside.

The walls around them crackle. Light shimmers through the blood drenched levees. The storm walls shatter as the tempest of torment and suppressed memories explode. Visions of love reign down upon the demonic presence. The evil roars and tries to defend itself against the partisans of Castle's past.

Memories transfigure into the form of his parents. The two crush the evil that infests their son. The demon claws at his chest as light begins to emanate from his emptiness. It howls as the good envelops, and destroys it.

--

Jack sits up and crawls toward his brother. Emotions go haywire, and he succumbs to his grief. Tears fall unto his brother. He let's out a blood curdling, soul wrenching wail, GRAAAAAH!!... NOOOO! No... SEEAN, Sean, what? Why?... NOO!... Gaaah!" The young man feels as if he is going through a terrible sense of deja-vu. He feels the sense that he is 10 years old once again.

Castle drops his cane and falls to his knees, "He... He risked himself for me? Wha... Why would he?" The astounded man looks to where the figure in black stood, the spot is empty of body. "What? Why would Sean take a bullet for me... When I could have taken it anyway?" Grief overcomes him, and true tears of sorrow well up and fall.

Jack covers his brothers body. Blood trickles from the left temple and puddles the floor. The Weston kneels in it, not caring that it covers him. He continues to bawl.

Several minutes pass, and tears stream from Castle's face, but he keeps the composure in his voice, "I know it means nothing, especially now, but I apologize for my actions, and seek forgiveness from God, and this world."

Jack sniffles and sobs. He wipes his eyes with the back of his hand. More of his brother's blood covers his face. He sniffles, "Sean, he told me something before we got up here," he sniffles once again, "He told me, forgiveness is second only to love in terms of power. I forgive you An-"

The new man holds up his hand, "Thank you and please, don't call me by that name. My true name... My birth name is Anthony Bastion. The evil that overcame me started calling itself that at an early age. He changed it to that... Because it sounds more sick and twisted than my name."

Jack nods, "I understand why you wouldn't want to be called by that other name, and why you'd want to be called by this one." He trembles a bit, "I am not nearly as mastered in the faith as my brother wa... Is... But I can help you, and we can grow together. You seem like an entirely different man Anthony, and I do not see that which I did before."

Bastion smiles, "Thank you, I will not take this act for granted, Jack. In fact, with your permission, may I arrange the funeral?"

Jack shakes his head at this, "I'm not entirely comfortable with you yet, I will lead that, can you provide the resources?"

Anthony nods, "Of course, I will get right on it immediately." He stands and walks over to his computer. After a few moments the wall to their right opens to show a secret passageway. Two securitrons roll out and take heed of the body. "I will send his body to Doctor Usanagi, she can prepare the body, and get it cleaned up, probably find a place to keep it on ice. She will have my full resources at her disposal. As do you, Jack."

The brother nods, "Ok, I'm going to return to my family. I expect everything ready a few days from now. He's going to be buried by my parents," the pyre returns to him, "And his mentor."

Jack stands, his boots are in the blood. He turns around and picks up the KA-BAR. He slides it back into the sheath, and clips the button to fasten. He sniffles, "I'll see you in a few days Anthony." Before he steps out he picks up his brothers blade, Redemption, and straps it to his waist.

Bastion frowns, "Will do Jack."

As Jack leaves securitrons get to work on preparing Sean for his funeral.

Jack stumbles onward toward the vault. Tears continue to stream, he sees Britannia, who is also crying. She stands outside the hotel door. His good woman kisses him.

Jack breaks down in her arms, "Oooooh Brit, he's gone... Sean's gone."

Britannia cries, "I know babe, I know." She grasps her man with all her might. The blonde caresses her man's head and comforts him. "Jackson is asleep, inside. Let's try to go inside."

--

Sean stands amidst a cloud of fog. He wears all white, in front of him stands the old man he remembers.

God.

The benevolent being smiles at the young man, "You did it Sean. You fought the good fight; kept the faith; you finished the race." God walks up to Sean and hugs him.

Sean embraces the comfortable warmth engulfing him. A peace grows within him and becomes him. The Weston cries with utmost joy to be receive His blessing.

God puts his arm around the beloved, and walks with Sean. He waves his hand and reveals to him The Kingdom. A majestic landscape is unveiled to Sean. A jawbreaking vista lies before him, however, The Weston does not see this.

Feet away stand three people that greatly influenced Sean's life: Mom, Dad, and Aegidius. Each person waves to Sean with enthusiasm.

Sean looks to God, "May I?"

God ushers him to enjoy his family.

What would be considered "time" on Earth, moves on. Sean is truly happy, but he wishes to do more. He seeks an audience with his God. After some "time", God sees him, "Hello Sean. Aren't you content?"

Sean smiles, "Yes, I am extremely happy to see the three, but... Can I serve you more as a guardian angel to others?"

The Almighty One smiles, and giggles a bit. "That was always like you Sean, always wanting to help others. Selfless, I will do this for you, but I want you to be certain. Are you sure this is what you want? You will rarely ever be able to be here if you choose this. Are you certain this is what you wish?"

Sean looks at his family. He thinks about the people that were in his life. Castle, Jack, Britannia, Johnny, and many more. He curiously asks, "Do you know who I wish to safeguard, and why?"

The Lord of the Angel Armies smiles, and nods. "I don't have a problem with it Sean."

Knowing what this entails, Sean quickly nods, "When do I get started?"

God informs him, "You already have."

--

Few days pass. Jack stands over his brothers grave, along side a few other people: Britannia; Jackson; and Anthony Bastion. They all wear black.

A beautiful headstone shows the following: Sean Daniels Weston, April 27th, 2257 - January 5th, 2282. His epitaph reads: Son, Brother, Man of God, "Forgiveness is second only to Love."

Jack steps forward, "I wanna thank you two for coming, and you Jackson," he smiles at his son. He continues the eulogy, "My brother, we didn't have much time together, but the quality of that time surpasses the quantity. He taught me much about the faith, such as love and forgiveness. Sean once told me, explained to me, that forgiveness is extremely powerful. He told me that the remains of the pyre you see behind us were created for Aegidius Aurelius years ago. He is the man that killed my parents. Sean told me that forgiveness is what allowed Aegidius to become a father figure. Forgiveness is what stopped Sean from becoming the killer of Aegidius, what stopped him from becoming the evil that ended his mentor. This also allowed me to forgive you Anthony, and to forgive Johnny Caps. I miss him, and I know we all do. I pray that Sean rests peacefully, happily, in Heaven above." Jack returns to his woman's side.

Britannia stands on her tiptoes and whispers into Jack's ear, "You did good." She gives him a peck on the cheek.

--

Later that night, Jack lies next to his sleeping woman wearing boxer briefs. He cannot sleep, the memory of his brother dying haunts him. He sits up on the king size bed. His lean body is barely visible in the dark vault. He wipes his face with his hand. Out of the corner of his eye he sees a body of light. He looks to his left, and standing in the doorway leaning with his shoulder against the wall is Sean. Jack shakes his head and rubs his eyes.

Britannia groans under the sheets in her teddy, "Come back to bed sweetie." The dim light shines powerful enough to urge Britann to open her yes She opens her eyes and sees looks to the doorway. Who she sees makes her gasp, "Jack," she breathes heavily, "It's... is that?" Miss February stands up from the bed and puts on a silk robe. She puts her hand to her mouth in shock.

Jack walks over to the specter and reaches out, "Sean, yaws, yeah, oh my gosh."

Sean grabs to hands and pulls his brother into his arms. "It's good to see you." The glowing redhead holds his little brother for a few moments. He let's go, "I know this blows your mind, but I asked for it. I'm not the one that can actually make this happen. Britannia, and Jack, you probably know who I mean."

Jack is bewildered, "How? Ho- how?

"He allowed me to come and see you, it works the same way he came to mentor me. I cannot truly explain it, as I don't know how it works myself," Sean hugs Britannia.

The woman is as bewildered as her man, "Why did he? What the? I'm so relieved Jackson is sleeping, because if he were awake this'd be so difficult to explain later on."

"Now I want to deliver you a message then I'll be on my way. This will not be my only visit, but it will probably be my most memorable with you two. I'd say goodbye, but goodbyes are like a roulette wheel you never know where you're gonna land. First you're spinning, then you're standing still. Most of the time your left holdin' a losin' hand. I can assure you two that as physical as I am you, you do not have a losin' hand. You have the jackpot. You have found each other once again, and you know your seeking is through. I will be your guardian angel, and when the time comes I'll see you again. I love you both, and I look forward to our next visit." Just as quickly as he arrived, he fades like sand in the wind, with a comforting smile.

Jack backs up and sits on the bed. His heart is racing and he is breathing rapidly.

Britannia sits next to him and places her hand on his chest to help calm him down. She kisses his shoulder, "Hey, I know that was crazy but it's going to be ok Jack. He said it himself, he will be watching out for us. It's gonna be ok." Both start shedding tears of happiness, this is the first time they have been happy in what feels like decades.

--

Anthony stands before a large crowd. Behind him sit two monoliths both covered in large sheets. It has been five years since Anton Castle died, and Anthony Bastion was reborn. He wears a navy blue suit; with dark orange dress shirt; solid navy blue tie; and black gloss shoes.

He stands before a crowd and the outskirts of New Vegas. The mass is dressed to their best. Securitrons echo Anthony's speech across the Mojave Wasted, "Five years ago I met a man that at the time I hated, and even wanted to kill. He and his brother, who is sitting right there-" He points out Mr. and Mrs. Weston, she sits next to her newest bumbling baby boy. To Jack's right sits a seven year old Jackson Daniels. He is beaming from ear to ear at the acknowledgement of his father. Jack raises his hand and waves to show the crowd where he sits.

Bastion smiles, "Heheh, five years ago I met a man by the name of Sean Daniels Weston. What followed was a fight, but he did not give up on me. Sean and Jack chased me to the Lucky 38. There, Sean sacrificed himself for me, even when I didn't deserve it."

This gets Anthony emotional, almost as much as Jack and Britannia who have tears welling up. Bastion recomposes himself, "From that self sacrifice I changed, and became the man before you today. I come before you today to apologize for my actions prior to that. So, I apologize, i know it seems late, and I know that many will not be able to accept it. In time I hope they can. Before Sean Weston came into my life I was a murderer; a man that stole; controlled others against their will; and was as bad a person could ever get, beyond that even. Since then, I have spread the borders of New Vegas. Freeside has become apart of the city, it has been renovated to be as clean and pristine as The Strip itself."

The man at the podium takes a sip of water, "We have cleansed the Fiend threat, and people can roam the outskirts of this city without fear of being attacked. Securitrons patrol as peacekeepers, and police officers to anyone who wishes to cause any trouble. The pay toll to The Strip has been removed and all people now have free access to our fair city."

Anthony clears his throat, "These two statues behind me represent the past and present of Vegas." He rips the cloth from the first statue. The crowd claps. "Robert House, the father of New Vegas. He picked this city up when it was down, and he nourished it back to health, to the city we knew of five years ago."

Bastion removes the cloth from the second monolith. It is a perfect replica of Sean Daniels Weston. Unlike the statue of House, Sean's shows a charming smile with open arms, almost as if he's joyfully laughing. "Sean Daniels Weston, to represent what I hope to do with the future of Vegas. A future of prosperity; love; happiness."

The crowd applauds at the bright future of New Vegas. In the back of the crowd sits a redhead, he nods in agreement with the what was just said.

Unbeknownst to everyone there, except one, Anthony keeps his promises.

--

Time moves on without Sean. Jack and Britannia get married within a year of his brother's passing. Three years later they have their second child, and name him Sean David Weston. Five years later they have twins, and name them after Jack's parents: Jenny Elaine Weston; and Thomas Henry Weston.

The two become so in tune to each other that they truly become a symbiotic couple. They become each others rock, each others support and each others shelter. Jack and Britannia become the meaning of symbiotic. They raise their children with love, and teach them the ways that Sean lived by, the ways of The Word.

When their time comes, they both go together. Their passing to move on from this life, and Sean is there to escort them on wings grace.

--

Many decades have passed. An elderly man in the December of his life sits on a cliff and watches as the sun sets on the Mojave. The guilt has dug into his soul and tortured him for seventy years. He is wrinkled, the strands of gray hair fall upon his one black suit. The suit is now gray, representing his age and pain.

Memories are his only companion. Mental images of his wife, children, killed by a man that died the same day he took the life of an innocent. He sits there with the pain in his eyes, the pain of a then and gone.

One day he heard the echo of a securitron blasting the speech of a murderer. It took this old man a few decades to accept his apology.

A man take a seat to his left. He glows like the sun setting before him. The old man has to squint; and he slowly raises his hand to guard from the overpowering light. He faintly recognizes the young man, as if he was a ghost from a life long ago.

The young man is smiling at who sits beside him, "It's good to see you, old friend."

The old man cannot believe his eyes. He blinks, but the man does not disappear. His aged, gravelly voice echoes, "You look very much like a man I met long ago. A man that I had the misfortune of..." His face cringes as he relives the nightmare. "Oh... so long have I felt the grief and guilt of that mistake. Everyday I wish I could have asked him to forgive me, so that I may be able to live with myself. So that I would be able to move on."

The angel places his hand upon the man's shoulder, "Johnny, I forgive you."

The confused man looks upon the glowing face. He sees the man he first met all those years ago. A smile of redemption arises in his soul and shows on his face. He touches the radiating light, tears of happiness begin to well up in his eyes.

Sean smiles, "Are you ready to see your family?"

Johnny Caps slowly smiles with excitement, "Yes, I am ready."

Sean offers his right palm, "Take my hand."

Johnny slowly reaches out. For the first time in seven decades he is happy. The arthritis and aches in his bones, but as he touches the hand of the angel all his pain goes away.

The Weston carries the elder man home, where his family awaits.

In the alcove behind this cliff rests Johnny's shelter. Inside sits a radio that echoes the final lyrics of a ballad sung by the pre-war Man in Black.

There is a train that's heading straight
To heaven's gate, to heaven's gate
And on the way, child and man,
And woman wait, watch and wait
For redemption day

It's buried in the countryside
It's exploding in the shells at night
It's everywhere a baby cries
Freedom
Freedom
Freedom
