Figured I would start this to help those who want a workaround for different bugs until whatever patch we are holding our breath for comes out....since I have not seen a Central "XBOX ONLY" thread like it yet.

Before I start.....I realized that most of the glitches and bugs I am experienceing started AFTER the XBOX Live update right before the kinect was released....and started showing all the new Kinect crap and changing my sign in screen to a white background....anyone else feel the same way???? PLEASE POST IF THIS IS WHERE YOU REALLY NOTICED THE PROBLEMS AS WELL!!!!!

If this is the case.....then it may not be all of Beth's fault....however this would be no excuse for PC and PS3 Users who are having the same issues......

LOTS OF SPOILERS HERE.....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!

COUPLE OF POINTS: SAVE OFTEN!!!!!!! but NEVER SAVE IN THE STRIP AT THE LUCKY 38 / GAMORRAH SCREEN!!!!
I am playing 2 different characters under seperate XBOX Accounts in tandem..(10-15 Hours playtime on each then swap...sticking pretty close to the same completed quests for each. Logged right at 160 Hours on my main account...right at 125 hours on the other one. I have been able to use completely different playing styles and perks/weapons at the same time.

Both characters I am playing are being played using hardcoe mode and wacky wasteland perk. I have located right at 100 / 65 Places...but am only to the spot regarding confronting benny in the Tops to get the chip on the main story line. I have gone further than that....killed benny, activated the robot vault under ceasars camp...etc...but restarted to previous save before confronting benny on both.

Im Liked or neutral by all except The legion and Powder Gangers on both accounts by the way

List the bug, and what you found helped you work around it.....I'll start:

Bug: No key to get in the strip

Workaround: Reloaded to previous save from before ever entering the strip. Completed enough quests to get the Passport from Mick and Ralphs for free. Once in the strip...went DIRECTLY to the 38 and talked to House.....no issues ever since.

Bug: Going thru gate on north side reverts to black screen and no load-causing you to turn off console and reload.

WorkAround #1: Try this first..... Go to the guy at the trading post inside the Crimson Carivan fort and buy the Old Cowboy Hat. Wear it before walking thru the gate. (yes this sounds stupid....buuuut....so does a game that has sold so many copies from a reputable company being released with so many bugs) This used to never work for me other than getting me into the strip, only to have it freeze once I actioned a person or a door.....but that has since changed and seems to work every time. If this does not work, use workaround 2 below.

#2: Play from the CD ...not from the console. Avoid north gate like the plague. Use the Monorail EVERY time. Complete as many quests as you can that dont have to do with going in the 38 or Gammorrah until you absolutley HAVE to. At that time....make a BEELINE for the 38 or Gamorrah once you do load into that screen coming from the south entrance. Sometimes helps to give the game a minute to load and have NO Companions walking with you (have them wait somewhere like the Hotel Room at NoVac)....before walking one step from the gate. Dont talk to anyone or slow down at all. This works 2-3 out of 5-7 times. (yeah I know...still sux...but at least it works SOMETIMES)

Bug: Losing Ed-E - can happen anywhere at anytime.

Workaround: Have Ed-E wait in the Hotel Room at Novac....still get the perk but without the trouble. Also - and I know this sounds mundane...but look behind you often and make sure he is following you....listen for him. Saved him a couple of times just by doing that....and dont bail off the side of a hill and expect to see him anytime soon....if ever. Lastly....when in small rooms where there are stairs...be sure that Ed-E makes it up the stairs...and does not get stuck on the ceiling. Have him set to keep close to you. I found that in an area like the bootleg beer place, the load doors were too close for him to go through both without me waiting on him to get through the first one.

Bug: Companions Shooting before you

Workaround: For starters.....if enemies are close enough, or Comps are being targeted by enemies...Comps will fire regardless of having them be passive. Also - after every fight....you usually have to re-tell them to either wait, or toggle the passive button off an on to make sure. Also - be aware of your Rep with whatever factions are close by......and try not to EVER take comps anywhere near an area you may have to go under water at.

Bug: Non Removable quest items.

Workaround: DONT KILL ANYONE OR ANYTHING UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN THEY ARE NOT A QUEST-DRIVEN NPC!!!! (i.e.: The gaurd at the Silver Rush!!!) If they have a name....you may want to hold of before chopping them or head shotting them.......avoid them if needed until you know what the deal is....and why they may be important.

Bug: My monorail Blew Up - what else can I do???

Workaround: Nothing.....reload to before the timer starts on that bomb going off and save the monrail from exploding. As soon as you overhear the conversation in the tower....DO NOT WAIT TO KILL HIM.....instead....run out of the tower to the monorail....enter the train, turn left and action the vent on the bottom left. Make sure your repair skills are high enough to save the train before doing this quest...otherwise you really are royally screwed until a patch comes out to fix the issue.

Bug: Train Tunnel South of Nellis...room on Left(midway in tunnel - where Glow Ghoul is) - Falling through the Floor/Respawn at other end and getting blown up by Frag Mines

WorkAround: Have not found one yet....PLEASE POST IF YOU HAVE!!

Bug: PipBoy light gets really bright sometimes....or hardly works at all (like in Thorn/Sewers under Thorn)

Workaround: If you have the perk that gives you better vision at night.....try not using pipboy light at all....or re enter whatever area you are going into without it on. This sometimes fixes the problem. If you do not have that perk....I tried using cateye when it happened (either way) and once it wore off that seemed to work as well.

Bug: Level Ups not being registered

Workaround: This only happened to me once.....and I reloaded to previous save right after last level up and it did not occur again. As a side note....you can not level up if enemies are present. Once you kill everyone - then you can level up like normal. (at least from what I have found. I have seen others post to the contrary...just dont see how it would have been possible.)

Bug: Nellis Guard will not initiate conversation after running through the artillery fire / obstacle course when approaching the gate from the city.

Bug: Artillery firing to soon and pummling you as well as the guy on the street / Artillery will not stop once you reach the gate.
(Friend of mine said this same method worked for this issue as well)

Workaround: For starters.....you need to be at least neutral with the NCR....dont know why, but even this workaround did not work when the NCR was angry with me. I found the best way to avoid this bug is to go through the Train Tunnel south of nellis and get to the gate that way. Stay close to the cliffs so that the boomers cant "see" you....and then follow the fence line to the gate. (you would be heading left).
Once at the gate....he should come up and initiate the conversation. The only problem with this method is that you have to have 100 Lockpick to get in the train tunnel door south of nellis. (learned from Fallout 3 that having 100 on Science and Lockpick....as well as a High Repair Skill is very beneficial to your "playability" as soon as possible / as early as possible... in the game)

Bug: When doing the Talent Pool Quest.....you go to talk to the comedian right at the gate between the Tops and 38/Gammorrah Screen....freezes every time...no matter how I appraoch or what I do

Workaround: Wearing the old cowbay hat solved this problem for me this last weekend.....also....try not to go back to the tops until you have recruited all talents.....otherwise it may lead to a bug that does not allow you to leave the tops. Wearing the cowbay hat solved this problem for me as well....however others have not been so lucky!

Bug: Euclid C-Finder....When trying to use it after coming out of the Convict Vault....would not Fire. When pulling trigger, acts like it is going to fire, then does not...but the three lines keep showing up everywhere I point my Crosshairs, regardless of what Gun I am using. Also noticed that one of my companions has a second C-Finder in her Inventory (Veronica).

Workaround: Just hit this one last night....11/15/10......and so far have not come up with an answer other than reloading to before I went in that vault. Tried using it at different times and distances...all to no avail. If you have a fix for this one, post here and I will add it to the list.



What else?????? I know im missing a lot....but these are the main ones which have given me the most headaches.

Now I can't enter the Strip thru Freeside, everytime, it goes to a black screen, and when I restart the console, the autosave is corrupted! Very maddening! Thanks to you, I will try the Monorail, (completely forget about that). Get this, I even took the game back and exchanged it for a new one, hoping that would fix it, but nope! Damn you MicroSoft, and your stupid "Updates"!

My workaround seemed simple enough.. I deleted the bonus DLC from the hard drive and started again. I haven't had any major bug that others have talked about. Of course some people still claim they get the DLC bug without the DLC.
Things I probably did different in my play through..
I save like a madman.. Before entering any door, before talking to any character. If something glitches I just go back to a previous save. I also do this because I like to see what happens if I do something different.. I re-load and do-over quite a lot.
Debt Collector.. I had the speech skill so I simply asked for his hat and didn't kill him... No glitches from that so far.. It's been about 20 hours since I did that quest.. although I still have a save from right before I talked to the guy just in case.
Come Fly with me. .. Don't know.. I did the quest , grabbed the space suit and everything went smoothly.
The Strip.. I had the Science skill so I just spoke some code to the robot and he let me in. Never had any problems with the strip.
Quest Items.. I noticed many of them had weights.. but if I dumped all the items I was carrying I still had 0 weight.. meaning the quest items I have.. Like the snow globes.. even though they say they weigh 1.00 don't count towards your carrying weight.

Also....if you are playing on a PC and post here.....PLEASE LET US KNOW THAT! For those of us on an XBOX, there are many things that PC users can do that Console players can not. We dont want to start confusing the 2. Still post what you did to workaround an issue....but let us know you are playing on a PC. Thanks!

Try going to vault 22 and riding up and down on the elevator there. Some people have had luck with getting companions to reappear after the ride. Check Wikia for more ideas. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout:_New_Vegas

I found that when I go in and out of areas where the game has to load, the loads tend to get slower over time. When I think the load time is getting too long, I will clear the game cache (360 - hold both bumpers and the blue X button while game is loading until you hear the music). I have not have any major glitches that caused me to go back to an older save. Over 50 hours playtime. I was wearing the old cowboy hat when I first entered the strip, but I was able to pass the credit check. I have only had the game lock up when loading, speaking to a trader in the wasteland, and just moving along. I have had the weapon disappear and was able to see through my character in 3rd person view, but cleared it by reloading a recent save. Best advice for this game I have heard so far is to save often. You have room for 100 saves so use them.

Bump....for those new folks who, rather than reading....keep posting the same stuff over and over again and act like certain bugs or glitches have not been addressed or found a way to workaround.

Taking a break from this game for a few days....almost 200 Hours in to main account and it seems problems are either getting worse or more frequent at the least the further I progress and the more quests I accomplish. I will continue to update the thread though if anyone wants to most more workarounds than what I have already listed here so far.

Thought I'd throw a helpful 2 cents in. There's a glitch with the pip boy sometimes when you bring it up that the entire screen is glowing like the light is on. Lower the pip boy, turn ON the pip boy light, then go back into it. you can also just cycle the light on, then off, then open the pip boy back up. I actually used to have this happen in Fallout 3 as well, though not as often, and this trick would cure it.

ok I was able to get in the strip even after killing the guy with the cowboy hat and taking his coat, no problems getting in and out as many times as i wanted. then on my second playthrough it freezes and the only way to get in is with the cowboy hat,the only thing i did different was enter the strip without finishing come fly with me and boulder city quest. I think thats the problem...you are suppose to finish come fly with me first then go to boulder city which leads you to benny at the strip.I could be wrong but thats the only thing i did different this time and like i said i was able to get in and out the strip with out freezing. could someone verify

Bug: Level-Ups not being registered.

Secondary Fix: If you have a level 30 character saved in a different file on your HDD or USB device containing your current save file, the game will not allow your current lower level character to level properly. Move the other (Level 30) save file to a different save device (USB flash drive), and try reloading your current game save. This typically will allow your character to level properly again. Sometimes clearing the system cache is necessary as well.
