The Wings of the Queen of Bats

Post » Sat Sep 10, 2011 12:21 am

I had a look at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Weapon_Artifacts and discovered that a mysterious axe, called the Wings of the Queen of Bats, was available in Morrowind through the console but not in the game itself.

Do you think it would be nice to find this Axe in Skyrim, in the game itself I mean. That is, in a more full-fledged way, with some pieces of lore revolving around it...

This would raise questions, of course. First, who is this Queen of Bats? Nocturnal? Some witch who summoned an army of bats? An intelligent bat able to use Magicka? A woman who suffered form a very rare form of therianthropy, namely a werebat? A deity worshipped by bats? Some unknown Ayleid, or Goblin, or even Trollish Goddess?

And who crafted the Axe? The Queen herself? One of Her worshippers? A vampiric Minotaur or a vampiric Harpy? A wise but dreadful ancient Will-o-the-Wisp which would have crafted it magically (Will-o-the-Whisps are able to absorb health, which coincides with the enchantment with which the Axe is endowed)?

So, what do you think? Does this axe seem to deserve an "official" place in the lore?

It looks very cute, and would be highly appropriate should I choose to roleplay a vampire seductress, wielding the queen of bats herself!

Anything Bat or Queen related should be in the Lore :)

Bats are huggable and sweet :hugs:

Thanks for your support !

Yes, I love bats too! The hatred they suffer from is totally unfounded, and they eat mosquitos!

I suppose that bats will be killable in the game, but any creature which would dare to harm them will be killable as well... :stare:

As far as I'm concerned, the more legendary/mythical weapons, the better. The war axe at the top of that link is awesome.

Named gear for the win.
I'd like alot of named stuff. I don't see why generic items can't be named resized or coloured just to add variety. Who cares if there similar. I'd love it if you could get generic silver ware but if you broke into, say 'Gerrards house' a peice of generic silver ware could be named gerrard family heirloom and be worth a few gold more. No need for loads of extra moddels, get more life out of badic ones by having lots of sizes and names, if there is a little more time maybe even alt colours or conditions, 'tarnished silver ware' a little blacker or scratched version of the normal stuff. Do this kind of thing through out the world and it will breath more life into it. That and I love collecting shiny things.

Talking of named weapons and armour - will we be able to name our enchanted items like we could in Oblivion? I loved that feature.

We're running out of things to make topics about, aren't we?

I could really care less about that axe, and I highly doubt we'll ever see or hear from it ever again. It's kind of gimmicky anyway.

Well, some people complain about the rehearsals in topics, so some novelty won't harm, even though it's about the most useless (and therefore highly important) details...

I wholeheartedly hope you're wrong, since I am highly interested in weird gimmicky details...

Hey, Maverique! Thanks for reading this... I don't know if we may ask directly to the devs, but do you know whether such an axe is in?

I modded this axe in to my Nerevarine Palace mod. It was shocking to me that it wasn't used in the game based on how cool it looks.

EDIT:

I voted "yes." It would be a really cool addition.

Yes, it has a very nice look. And its name, oh, its name! It exudes the heady flavours of the most ancient arts and darkest secrets, seems to have been exhumed out of the deepest caverns and carries the far echoes of underground war drums...

Edit : thanks for your vote !

Now that is a cool looking axe. I'd get it more for the novelty than for the actual usage. Only if it was a rare find though.

Id say, from the page OP linked, the sword "Goldbrand" would fit in better than anything, its description says it all.

I had a closer look at the Axe and I think the material used to craft it isn't as dark as the usual Daedric ore. Moreover, the engravings on it don't seem to be the regular Daedric runes. So, what's this tongue? It is unlikely to be the Dragon's tongue since I think it was created especially for Skyrim...

So, what do you think it is? Is it the tongue of some mysterious race which remains unknown yet? Goblin's? And what's this material? Am I wrong ad is it Daedric ore?

(off-topic: is Trollish the right adjective for "Troll-related")

Well, yes, this seems to be a very well suited one for Skyrim. But to deserve it, I'd say that you'd have to play a renegade Dovakhiin, that is not necessarily swearing allegiance to Alduin, but well trying to prevent the Dragons from going extinct again...

The axe is as dark as any daedric weapon. It's just the screenshot that makes it look that way. All daedric weapons are made from ebony and infused with the soul of a daedra (possibly only dremora IIRC).

Also, I believe they were daedric runes on the axe.

Oh, I am sorry then, it seems that I have been misled by the screenshot...

They have all those darn pretty mountains to put vast hollows and dungeons in. I'd like to find a few bosses armed with this and other powerful weapons.
