The Witcher 2 Debut & Witcher 1 Discussion

Eh, I didn't like the first one. Too linear, and too many "run here fetch this then run back" type missions. I might give it a second shot though.

No comment on which story is better, since I haven't finished The Witcher yet, but aren't the six scenes in The Witcher just single flings? I haven't seen any real relationships except with Shani and Triss, but there didn't seem to be much love involved as those characters hadn't been developed over the whole game like in Mass Effect 2.

Perhaps it helps because I read the book. I dunno... it seemed pretty serious to me... and with his whole "lost past" thing it could have been even more serious.

Also yea, there are a lot of flings in the game, but there are two serious ones. Shani and Triss, and I would say they can compare to Bioware's. Although if they find a way to carry them over (and from the looks of the trailer Triss is back) then it might build up even more.

Also it isn't really fair to compare though. I mean Bioware doesn't do games as linear as The Witcher, and have to focus on a lot of other areas. Where as The Witcher can focus on what it needs to develop a character or story. Not to mention the fact that this is based on a series of popular novels. So they have some characterization to them.

Or perhaps I am simply bored of Bioware characters... who knows. :P

Although the Witcher was a linear story, it told a good story. And you had to make some interesting decisions. I remember doing something in Chapter one and not really thinking much about it, only to find out the impact of it in Chapter 3 and thinking Ha! It never occurred to me that doing A would lead to C, instead of B. But I found the story interesting, because you did get to recreate the character of Geralt.

As for the flings - I am a female gamer, but I had my Geralt be the biggest hounddog ever! Vampire threeseome? It is ON! I almost felt like the flings were a mini-game. :P They didn't really impact the story, except for the more serious dealings with Triss and/or Shani, if you opted to even get involved seriously with any of them.

Anyway, I do hope this new one has as compelling a narrative. Certainly looks interesting. :)

Delayed consequences as done like in TW is a pretty good gameplay mechanic IMO. It removes that 'test decision X out and then reload' thingie.

The first game was awesome. Pure, unadvlterated awesome. I'll definitely be picking the sequel up.

I look forward to seeing their improved voice acting. I mean it wasn't too bad, or too good in the first game. Although after they redid a lot of it, it was on the better side. I am guessing they have probably learned how to do voices a lot better. Or so I hope, although either way I am still going to get it.

I can't wait to see their new CGI trailer... if they have one (here's hoping they do).

Being a huge fan of the first witcher. This game goes to the "must-buy" list of the future.

Well, I never judge from a trailer...

Heh heh. Me neither. Anything would look good after that diabolical Adidas commercial I had to watch before the trailer started. Wow! Have to get a pair of those sneakers, women everywhere will nod and smile, as I join in on skipping games everywhere.

Great trailer though. CG women magically stripping off their clothes? I'm sold. :mohawk:

Sweet! I hope they continue the vast amount of grey from the first game.
Spoiler
Though, I did like it at the end how you can pretty much tell everyone to piss off because you have mutants to kill

Geralt's new hairstyle looks good too.

Something to look forward to. Love the original.

I still play The Witcher once in a while. Some might like to try mods from http://ifrit.pl/creative.group/?page_id=15&lang=en. The Flash Mod on Insane is just that -- Insane. Full Combat Rebalance also looks good.

Played a bit of the Witcher demo.
Will I get very annoyed through out the game if I hated those hell hounds? Always surrounding me and not letting me kill them...

Yeah, forgot about that. Are all enemies the same where I kill them and if I pass that point again, they'll spawn?

If you already killed them I don't think they respawn.

Spoiler
When your laying the candles at the chapels, the hell hounds spawned. I killed them and then passing by the same place they spawned again. Might be just the hell hounds though.

That's cause those ones are part of a quest.

That was a really cool trailer. Ever since I saw the leaked footage/presentation a few month's ago, I have wanted to get it. I'll get the first one soon hopefully.

Use group style on those, or if it is only a single one use fast style. The steel sword svcks against them, but later on you can get a coating to deal more damage to them.

Also they are only in the first chapter, but I fear you will hate the end chapter boss though. ;)

It's known as the newbie slayer. Only a select few will ever make it past to truly enjoy the game.

Excuse me while I be extremely happy. The Witcher is an awesome game, and it has more than earned it's place in my collection. I've been keeping an eye on what little information there is to be had about the sequel, and from what little we've seen my thoughts are hopeful. So far it looks to follow much the same design philosophy as the original.

Except for the quick-time. I don't know what ever possessed them to think that would be a good idea.

Funny story that. First time I played I put some points into the Aard sign. Simply knocked him on his back and delivered a coup de gr?ce. I was really surprised on my next playthrough how hard that fight was.

*snerk* :D

@Sufffca - lighting the candles will spawn the barghests - and as others have said - group style for a bunch, then fast. However iirc, in that chapter, until you do the boss fight, the hounds will spawn if you are wandering around at night - otherwise most enemies do not respawn. You do need to pay attention to what style works with what enemies. I kept getting my ass handed to me in another chapter by a swamp enemy, because I didn't realize that the strong style was the most effective.

I will definitely be keenly interested in the development of this sequel - I may have to wander off and play through the original game again. :)

You won't hear me inquiring about your difficulty setting here. Mostly because I had similar experiences ...
