The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Discussion #2

Note from the same site:

We know that the game doesn’t look as good as we have seen in other gameplay videos but it is important to know that the video was re-uploaded from Nvidia’s Twitch stream.

Not to mention, Nvidia GRID’s streaming capabilities were being demoed through this video.

In addition to that, the game wasn’t even running on the highest settings.

>>> CD Projekt: The Witcher 3 Ultra Will Be A Slap In The Face <<<

No one has ever seen The Witcher 3 Ultra settings yet, and from what CD Projekt’s Senior Game Designer Damien Monnier said yesterday, it seems like no one will before release.

The good news is that he felt very confident about it, going as far as saying that it will be a “slap on the face” when people finally see it for themselves.

Of course, I anticipate some gamers will be disappointed not to be able to witness the Ultra settings before launch. Probably a few will also think that they’re not showing it because it lacks optimization;

it may well be a combination of both things, judging from experience.

The highest setting clearly needs a lot of care in order to be playable and it’s likely that CD Projekt plans to wow gamers after all the downgrade talk.

I like that you can back away while still facing your enemies in combat. You couldn't do this in the second game.

Yeah, spend an hour in arena to practice builds. You get to familiarize yourself with the abilities without spending 20 hours to reach a certain level. Other than that:

-alchemy is more effective in this game, so spend a couple points in that tree even if you don't specialize there.

-as you mentioned, no group style. So use bombs, the only AOE attack Geralt has now. They're cheap, very effective and there's a lot of types.

-kill the Kayran as soon as the quest pops up. It's so powerful, no matter your build in Chapter 1 it'll kill you in about two hits, so you might as well get the huge XP boost early.

-for the same reason, do nonviolent quests early for the XP boost.

Why do we think The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt does combat right?

Geralt bends his body towards his target, lifting his sword to cover both his head and body should they need it. This stance is perfect for battling enemies at close range,

because no matter how they come at you, there will always be a sword between you an them.

With that said, simply holding your sword up doesn’t mean you’re fully protected. You need to react to what your enemies do in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt in order to beat them.

If a bandit decides he’s got what’s needed to take you, he’ll rush you and swing some sort of weapon. You now have two choices, dodge or counter. If you dodge,

you stand a better chance of avoiding the attack, and can quickly move in to take the enemy from behind. If there’s another bandit firing arrows at you though, dodging may still end with an arrow in your a**.

Countering will throw the enemy off-balance, opening them up for a good few sword swings before they regain their balance and defend themselves.

From this point you rinse and repeat until the closer bandit is down, using your fighting stance to ensure all arrows fired from the side in the mean time, are deflected.

With the first bandit down, it’s time to take out the second one. An enemy who only has a ranged weapon is an enemy you can dispatch quickly.

The arrows will simply fly off your sword, deflected straight to the ground. You still need to time your attack right though, as you could take an arrow to the thigh (or knee) if you attack when the bandit has an arrow ready to fire.

If you attack just after you’ve deflected an arrow, you should be able to kill the bandit before they have a change to respond, which is always the best way.

If you're in the market for a new graphics card you can get The Witcher 3 for free with a purchase of GeForce 900 series, including the GTX 980, 970 and 960 as well the 970M and above notebook GPUs.

Damn, well I already upgraded a few months ago, so I guess I'm good.

I think I meet all the requirements, can't remember if my cpu is 3.2 or 3.4 Ghz, though, either way, I either meet minimum or recommended, so I'm good.

The game world looks amazing. So much detail. The cloth and hair physics are nice too. The combat looks good. I can't wait to play this.

"They discussed remaking the first two games for the next generation, but for the moment there are no plans."

I'd love to see them remake the first one.

However, CD Projekt RED still hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a re-release, which gives a glimmer of hope to PlayStation owners who will be getting a title in the series for the first time when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases this May.

Isn't that the price of most of the Collectors Editions?

I want to say I saw the PC one at about the same price, a shame really... there was some cool stuff in there.

Yeah, if they had like a merch store I would totes pick up some stuff though... idk, it's easier to spend a few bucks here and a few bucks there than spend like 0ver 200$ at once. Just my thoughts though.

I think someone put a video on here a while back about the making and hand painting of the statue, it looks well made and is probably worth the money to those that like collecting that sort of thing. I'm not a fan of CE's so have only pre-ordered the standard game but I'm sure those that decide to splash out on the CE will enjoy it.
