The World Beyond Tamriel

Post » Sun Jan 23, 2011 4:03 am

I guess my love of history leads me to want to know about the lands out side of Tamriel at some point. I'd love for one of the games to possibly have a character who has mapped the world. This would be a great jumping off point for an expansion of the series because all of the other continents of Nirn have had interaction with Tamriel and most of it has been violent. The Maomer could attack Summerset Isle or another Akaviri invasion would be cool. Or quite possibly some spinoff games that explored these continents and their histories more fully. Basically, I'd a globe of the world of Nirn would be nice. Does anyone else share my curiosity.

Yes! Deffinatly. I'd love Bethesda to release a world map of Nirn just to put things into perspective. Maybe a character could be in the next game that is one of the exotic races of another continent. Still though, Tamriel isn't short on mystery and wonder. Plenty of juice left in it yet :)

I agree whole heartedly but I guess it's human nature to want to know. A map is all I'd like for perspective. I'm sure there are bright people at Bethesda who think the same. In fact, I think they mention in Oblivion the Nevarine setting sail for Akavir. I also think the fact that the empire is in turmoil would be a great back drop for introducing some from outside of Tamriel. But if I could see other races then the Akaviri would be my choice. All four races sound awesome.

Hmm. A globe? Do we even know if Nirn is shaped like planets in our own universe?

Seeing how its neighboring planets and moons are when you look up in the night sky, i'd put a strong bet on it being globish :)

I would hope so.

anyways, I would be happy for a globe. That way modders can make these worlds and not interfere too much with the lore of the game. Well that is until Bethesda sets the game in other continents.
maybe they are just waiting for real Virtual reality... dreams...
but a map would be nice

It'd be so cool if BGS did a Google-maps-like map of Nirn (Although it would be too hard to do anyway).

I'd rather explore the whole of Tamriel first and then move onto other continents.

thhere ar globes in Daggerfall mages guilds, but all they show is Tamriel Proper and Yokuda (I say Tamriel 'proper' because Pyandonea, being inhabited by elves, must have also originally been part of Aldmeris.)

I wasn't aware of that I've never played Daggerfall. Just Morrowind and Oblivion. But I might download Daggerfall and Arena.

My prayers go with you on that journey... Arena is just plain rough to even play after being spoiled by III and IV... oh and with Daggerfall... prepare to die... a lot, I mean a lot, a lot...

I'm not saying they need to have games set in the new continents but it'd be great to get a few more details on the inhabitants and the races because there is constant illusion to these places but no pictures. In Oblivion, there is a whole quest related to the Akaviri invasion. It's just my curiousity mainly. I mean I'd love to see the other provinces in detail first of course.

From what I remember Tamriels kinda in the middle you have whats left of Yokunda off to the west a good distance away from High Rock and Hammerfell, Akavir is 2000 miles east of Morrowind, The continent where the Nords are originally from is north of Skyrim.

A map of Nirn wouldn't be a bad thing

That's exactly what I'm saying. Lol! They can do it quite easily without going into any great detail. Just have some adventurer character who's done it and receive the map from him.

Isn't the correct term an "oblate spheroid"?

Though I'm all for a reveal of some sort, I personally would prefer to maintain some level of mystery surrounding the other Nirnian continents. I think the mystery is the only reason why we want to know anything about them and too quick of a reveal would just be disappointing.

I dream of the day that they make an Elder's scrolls strategy game. Conquering the provinces one by one, reuniting the empire, then building a massive force for another catastrophic invasion of Akvair.

This is the first thread I spotted relevant to my question.

Where is the equator in relation to Tamriel?
Is there a North Pole (how else to compasses work?)
How do the tides of the oceans work with 2 moons?
Are the northern lands supposed to be icy due to elevation or latitude?
---> If latitude, Atmora must be freakin' cold.

I would guess either above Atmora or on Atmora.
There has to be, if life is capable of living on Nirn. Without a gravitational field life would not be suitable.
Strangely haha. I'm not sure, they are relatively close to each other so they might add together for more of a combined effect rather than two clashing.
I think latitude, although it may be elevation as well.

1) At Lorkhan's belly button.
2) Yes, between Lorkhan's eyes.
3) The fuller the moons, the higher the tide, since the pieces of Lorkan's body are drawn to eachother.
4) Neither: magic.

Got an old globe (pre EU and new Federated Russia) that I would love to cover and over and attempt this. I'd have to work around the surface, because it is the extruded variety, but I would love to make a globe showing the world. I saw someone did this digitally, long ago, wish I could remember or get screenies of a full mapping.

I hate to disagree with you, but I... disagree with you. There is a consistant theme in TES of north=cold, and since magicka is energy, perhaps it is spread around like it is on planets we know of. Also note that the closer to the equater a species tends to be, the more magical is is (assuming that the equator is south of Tamriel, as Pyandonea is called 'tropical' and Altmora is.. well... frozen)
