The worst Fan fictions to ever been written.

Post » Sun Mar 09, 2014 7:52 pm

It is an uncontested fact that fan fictions generally svck 90% of the time. But out of the ones you have read, which ones could potentially be the worst out of them all?

All fan-fictions svck. They're not creative, they are written poorly, they take loveable characters and twist them into terrible things that everyone hates.

Lol more or less this. The only way they get worse is when they're fan-fics of something that already svcks.

True. Though while there are a few fan fics that I surprisingly liked (Anyone heard of From Harvest to the Ark? That's probably the best halo fan fic I've read.) However, for some reason, they tend to be poorly written and a disgrace to the actual games they are supposedly adding to. Does anyone know the Science behind this phenomena?

Also, is it just me but does it seem like a lot of fan fics are just some form of pormography?

The science is that fan fic is the writing equivalent of filming your own sequel to a movie in your backyard on a camcorder. This also answers your second question.

Wow, always nice to see that the internet continues to pump out gross generalizations and stereotypes. :bonk:

(Is there a good bit of lousy fanfic? Sure. Just like there are lots of lousy professional novels, TV shows, and movies. But there's some really great stuff out there as well. And in between the lousy stuff and the great stuff, there's a large quantity of stories that are just.... mediocre.)

Just like all Skyrim mods are nvde bodies and "anime trash", and "all anime characters look the same." (i.e, no, not really. That's just the stereotype, helped along by the fact that gratuitous porm is among the fanfic most likely to be talked about in anecdotes. Kind of like news programs always show the over-the-top flaming dudes when reporting on a gay pride parade - the most sensational bits are what "sells", so that's all anyone hears about.)

-----

As to the original topic..... hmm, you know, it's hard to pick (or remember) a "worst" fanfic I've read. When I run across truly bad things, I tend to stop reading them because I'd rather keep looking for good stuff. I know that there's a "legendary" Harry Potter fic that's generally held up as the worst of the worst, but some people also suspect that it was deliberately made that way as an exercise in trolling. I've never bothered trying to read it, personally.

(On the other hand, I've run across some nicely written stories in my time. Over the last decade or two, I've switched between fanfic interests - originally, X-Files stuff, then Xena, and now Buffy the Vampire Slayer stories. Mostly crossovers with other settings. Yeah, there's a lot of tripe out there, but there's also some really good stuff. No reason to bother mentioning any of it, given the audience.)

I'd probably say mine are pretty mediocre, but I'm fairly self-conscious/critical of myself.

Personally, I'm fine with some of the fan fictions here. As long as the story has substance beyond a terrible shipping story, I'm cool with it.

Well yours didn't Lexicon, honestly. Now, I'm a total d***, I'd say it if I didn't like your writing, but it's pretty damn good.

When did I write a fan-fiction? I just don't like them, really, not because they're not good or anything, but because I'd rather see more writers creating their own settings with their own characters and own plot than elaborating on an already existing world, usually in the most sickening way they can think of. Most are simply written as jokes, too, which just seems outright rude to the creators of the original. Personally, the only fan-fictions I sort of like are the ones that focus solely on elaborating on various points of lore that were quite sparse in the original.

Basically, stuff that's based on something pre-existing feels lazy to me and I don't tend to like it at all. Doesn't mean the writing itself is bad, but the ideas are unoriginal, and if there's one thing Tolkien taught me, it's the ideas that are the most important.

I'd say My Immortal, but that's in the "so bad it's good" category.

Your Zenith of Chlqx you showed me in a PM. Only it's not there any more. Why did you remove it? It was a genuinely good read.

Highly disagree. I've seen some fantastic works on Fanfic.net and elsewhere. You just gotta keep your eyes open.

Never heard of it until now. But after just reading parts of it. This just set the standard even lower. I need to find a fic (Or any story really.) To recover from such a bad story.

Personally I am aware that not all fan fics are bad, but it just seems that the majority I've read are mediocre at best. And plain terrible at worst. If you know of any particularly good fics. (particularly from Sci Fi and fantasy as I'm more interested in those two genres.) then by all means let me know.

I agree most are. Addai on Fanfic.net has excellent Dragon age stories. The largest one is the Arrangement. It's a mature story.

I just got Origins so I'll probably wait till I finished that game before I go on that site. If none of those stories are pormo fests then that's really an extra plus.

The six is done tastefully by an author with, well, taste. They're not like pormos.

That's the problem with most fanfics. Authors who haven't developed taste or haven't read good books to use as examples.

I'm just talking specifically about this one author, saying Addai's stories aren't like that. Most others out there indeed are bad.
