The Worst part of settlers stealing weapons from workbench

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2016 8:00 pm

..is that

They are doing it because they WANT TO and not because they need to.

I literally dropped my jaw last night...

when I saw 6-8 settlers in the Santuary run straight into workbench and take out 2 legendary weapons each... when the place was being attacked by two Giant Radscorpions.

All these settlers were heavily equipped with ammo, weapon and armors.

.. but it did not stop them running to the workbench straight to take out two weapons of their ammo type.

I knew this happens and many people suffer from it... but I never knew it was this bad.

I believe this AI needs to be adjusted.

I haven't observed this behavior but if it is so, good for them.

Sometimes I'll go to give a settler some armor or something and in their inventory see a missile launcher or flame-thrower.

I just give her some ammo and move along.

What she wants to do with that firepower is up to her.

Sometimes the results are hysterical.

Never happened to me , but my legendary weapons are all stored in a container that if I look better now , it's pretty hard to settlers reach , so maybe that's the reason I never saw them doing , and I have 30+ weapons in there .

After last night.. I waited Settlers to go to bed and took back all their weapons...

and moved all my legendary weapons to a container nobody can reach but me.

I had this happened numerous times before...

But I always thought this was happening because Settlers were equipped with underwhelming weapons.

Heavily equipped 7-8 settlers stealing TWO(NOT EVEN ONE) weapons... out of workbench..

I never saw this coming honestly.

By the way they can steal things not only out of workbench.. but also out of any accessible container.

I still remember this one settler taking a weapon out in right front of me from one of my weapon container... the sound of that container opening and closing was so memorable.

Yeah. Some people say their legendary weapons disappear from work bench...

There is very high possibility a settler has it.

It can also be stolen by provisioners in the settlement area then they can take off forever with it into unknown dimension.

It`s kinda silly these NPCs have access to workbench at all tbh...

Yeah they can steal my weapons, but not build their own damn houses, or plant their own damn tatos?

They can`t plant... but when my crops get destroyed I ignore them because by the next visit they are somehow all fixed... lol

Not sure what exactly is going on there for crops to be fixed though.

I find this behavior excellent, as it is what I would do. I also leave fusion cores in my extra sets of crap power armor. I find the PA's abandoned all over Sancuary. The Settlers use what they need. It is, after all their settlement.

They won't go in the cellar in Sanctuary.

It's behind one of the houses in the beginning of the circle.. It has two storage containers and a bed.

It`s cool if they don`t touch my legendary weapons... as level 199 SS.. I probably over hundreds of them and I would`ve never noticed them taking my Ash and two shot gauss rifle unless I checked on them individually. lol

The problem got much worse... because my santuary get attacked at least once or twice every week.. probably due to ridiculous amount of food stored in the workbench... lol

I don`t mind the attack, but I do mind damn settlers continuously taking out the weapon. They are safe now though in the safe.

Why? Do you need them? I use 3 or 4 weapons at a time, but only those that do the most damage. I usually don't want to be too weighed down and find the ability to carry so much immersion breaking. The rest I don't even waste the junk to mod them.

Which brings me to something that would be good for survival mode. Limit the number and types of weapons that can be carried. One pistol, one rifle, one shotgun and one melee. Sweet idea, I think.

It's because Bethesda are dirty communists. Fallout 4 is just an elaborate conditioning mechanism they are using to take over America.

I keep all my legendary and modded stuff at Home Plate, no one there to bother me or nab my stuff.

This only happened to me in drive in when I would store a few ammo types for when I want to equip new comers with weapons and send them off. I noticed certain ammo types I've stored in boxes were missing when I returned.... so I just kept the ammo on me.

That's what I do. Well, the stuff I want to keep. Any other guns, with ammo, I store in a central location at each settlement so anyone can use.

Wow, you must admire their AI though, and intelligence. (my sympathies to your loss though)

I think I would rather have the settlers behave like that...... rather than dumb as dumb can be.

I saw one of my settlers looking the computer in my settlement. There's nothing worthwhile on the 'puter... only the ability to activate a Mr Handy.... if I had one.

Fallout 3, guns were picked up if needed, Skyrim too, if I remember right.

edit I never arm my settlers anyway they just use what they have

I made seperate containers for all of my stuff. Weapons go in a box, ammo goes in a safe. Never really thought of putting it in the workbench. I did move out of Sanctuary Hills and down to a scrap compound in Outpost Zimonja though, since people kept sleeping in my bed and I kinda wanted the piece and quiet anyways.

I've seen this mentioned everywhere but honestly haven't encountered it in 300+ hours. I keep all weapons in containers and nothing but junk/crafting items in the work bench but also have several legendary and powerful weapons on shelves etc at Red Rocket. Don't store anything anywhere else as that's my home base. Only have 3 settlers there tending a small farm and guard posts and they have happily stuck with the tricked out guns I gave them. No one has touched a thing apart from knocking a few plates off the table and bottles in the bar. I even held off putting weapons on display cause I'd heard this but after I did no one has touched them? Just lucky I guess?

I did NOT know they did this, bit late to worry about it now though. Got so many guns i honestly wouldnt know whats missing....i just have to pick them all up ( pipe pistol? Hmm better grab it, i only have 63 of them )

Side note, my non-developed 6 settler hangmans alley was suffering repeated super-mutant attacks. So i equipped them all with miniguns.....oh, the carnage.

To be honest this would be an executionable offence in my SS world. I've set Abernathy farm up as a prison um re-education facility. Inmates wear longjohns and only have melee weapons and the Abernathys are the only ones with guns and armour. NPCs that annoy me get sent there and all their goods confiscated. Talking smack to me, not doing their assigned jobs and blocking the bloody doors are all worth a life of hard labour. Taking my weapons would be a step too far though. They'd wish they'd been sent to farm starch ingredients in their underwear!
