The Worst RPG Game

Arcania. It's a horrid disgrace. I didn't expect a Gothic, but neither a completely soulless, horrid and generally boring hackfest. Even Two Worlds was more enjoyable, for crying out loud.

Worst RPG I have ever played was probably Mass Effect 2. I think that is the worst one... I could be wrong, though.

But, yeah, it was pretty bad. For me, all of it was essentially a downgrade from the first one.

If ME2 was the worst, you sir have a really high standard. But out of curiosity, why do you think it was a downgrade? Won't argue why you're wrong or anything, just curious.

For me, it's Runescape. NEVER play it. Don't even try it. Ever.

I don't mind it,In fact I find it to be the best MMO out there, Beats WoW by a long shot.

Two Worlds is the worst RPG game.

Runescape. Played it, didn't like it. It's just clicking and clicking all over again.
World of Warcraft. I hate those "Bring me x something and I will give you a penny" quests... but it's damn addicting.

Any JRPG.

Even old school ones?

Suikoden series?
Parasite Eve series?
Valyrie Profile?
Star Ocean series?(SO2 specifically)

I know the ones coming out now svck but honestly, all JRPGs in their entirety aren't that bad..

And the west doesn't have a good track record of exceptional RPGs either.

Of course I'm only on the defense because the majority of RPGs I've played since I got into RPG-gaming were made by Japanese developers.

pretty much anything turn based. i used to play them all the time on my snes and genesis and playstation but after playing real time combat games i just cant stand playing turnbased anymore.

as for specific games two worlds was just awful although i did like the voice acting..........it added a sense of authenticity. fortunately two worlds 2 is a great game and they learned their lessons...........although the voice acting isnt as good as the first one.

That said, though, I loathe Fable 3 for demolishing one of my fondest childhood franchises. Also, inb4 Fable fan hate.

This. Honestly I dont know what goes throguh LHs mind. People wanted the game to be more like 1 after 2 was out, they didnt like the dog, they sure as hell didnt like the family. But LH just didnt listen, and instead dumbed down the game further. And the interaction in 3 dear god. Hold down A to be nice and X to be bad. WTF was wrong with the dialouge wheel. Also fable 3 is made worse by the fact this time I cant let the damn dog die. And Jaspers advertising constantly, and the "long awaited" black dye.

Also this is the first time I have seen you here, are you still on the LH forums ? I am going to assume most people left, as fable just seems to enjoy digging itself a deeper grave, gradually getting worse.
Fable 3.
fable 2 was disappointing, because my expectations were high after fable 1 (which i liked), but it wasn't terrible.
Maybe its just my fault for thinking it would get better instead of worse.

No I was the same. My fable experience is this
I find it in a shelf at blockbuster, rent it, then buy it, then find out about tlc, buy that. Then hear 2, fallowed the hype and got let down. Heared about 3, was cautious and avoided hype. Still dissapointed. Despite setting expectations low (I expected fable 2 with a new story).

I hate Fallout: New Vegas and Fable 2. Fable 3 was also a let down, but still a step up from Fable 2.

How was it a step up ?
Fable 2 had skill, will and melee upgrades, each with thier own things. And a dialouge wheel.
Fable 3 the only upgrades were that yo could increase damage of guns/swords and spel charge times. Also the skills opened up with the story, which was just bad, want lighting ? Then get to X.
Only upgrade was the santuary.

I am going to say mass effect.
I loved mass effect 1, it was great. I bought 2. Only to find "Gears with dialouge", it was waaay to much tps. Aside from the game being bad in general, my hate for it was amplified by the fact that it had ruined the ME trilogy for me. Because 3 is announced already, they are likely keeping the system, the terrible, rpg lite gears knockoff system. Which will still be praised as "rpg of the year" by many because its Bioware. Ironicly enough those people then go on about "the fps crowd" when mass effect thier oh so great rpg has become a shooter, and the sad thing is the things they praise it for other games do better. The great combat in 2 was just gears of war style, but clunkier.

I......I....I.... *drops dead*

But seriously, what are you doing on the Bethesda forums? It's like being on a COD forum and not liking MW2 or Black Ops.

Not really. The last time I visited a CoD forum there was a little flame war, between people who liked infinity ward and treyarch, after Blops. Maybe Obsidian brought him here, or he just likes the Oblivion TES compared to the morrowind Tes, or fallout > TES.

If ME2 was the worst, you sir have a really high standard. But out of curiosity, why do you think it was a downgrade? Won't argue why you're wrong or anything, just curious.

"Streamlined." Less powers in some cases, multiple powers being consolidated, removal of inventory (which honestly wasn't difficult to manage), lack of weapon options, thermal clips, health regen, universal cooldown, failing miserably to integrate past relationships/areas into the game, etc. I guess the band of folks I saved the galaxy with two years ago are only worth a 20 minute quest here and there, especially after I was thought to be dead.

The only things Mass Effect 2 did better than the original was the cover system and individual character development. The former at the expense of a halfway decent main story. Mass Effect's plot was excellent, Mass Effect 2 was countless hours of recruitment and team bonding, with a few forgettable main quests to stop a main villain who would in all likelihood just cease to exist due to his lack of presence.

Spoiler
Sovereign was one of my favorite villains in gaming. In that ridiculously awesome voice he brought a sense of urgency and hopelessness to the table. After the encounter on Virmire you were left wondering how could you possibly stop this. Harbinger, on the other hand, was more like a persistent mosquito that you had to swat every now and then. Then there's the Illusive Man and oh, they're building a giant human Reaper. Bleh.

Luckily the trailer for ME3 looks like the focus will be back to the Reapers. Hopefully most of your team from ME2 returns, eliminating the need to hold another 20 hour Star Search.

snip

I get the feeling mass effect 3 will be like DAO where you just play as a messenger, and gather an army, by helping them out with some problem they have. I am unsure if I would get it after ME2, especially if its like ME2, where instead of advancing the story, its just gathering people for the final mission. *shudders* and in he very small amount of ME2 that had a story, it ruined the reapers, making them less interesting and mysterious and just cliche.
And looking at ME3 it gets worse, the reapers are already there, and beating them in a fight would just be terrible, there should have just been a mission to keep them sealed permanently, it looks like its not the case.

Hm final fantasy legends I didn't like and I didn't like dragon age ether yes I just said it . It was just boring for me . Also, OP I loved runescape in the years back going back and forth to kamajri fishing swordfish to sell or training against the demons in the vocano there. I just wish the quests weren't so long though that was my major problem. Damn I wonder how many time in days I just sat watching my character catch fish , I don't even want to know.

Whenever I left I had about 10,000 cooked lobsters and 8,000 raw lobsters. About 9000 essences. 3000-8000 of each rune up to Law. The other runes were in the hundreds.

LOTS of other stuff. Not to mention that I "made a living" off of selling lobsters, rune and essence. So just imagine how much I really had. I wasted so much time in this game and you know what? I [censored] enjoyed it.

Off topic was a graveyard after fable 2, I cant see fable 3 bringing it back. And fable 3s section is most likely "trade X for Y". Although I liked alot of the people who posted there, no idea if they are still there, I know some werent happy with fable 2 so 3 probabally made them quit completely. Then others there didnt even play fable. I wonder if there will be any more fable games after this, they just seem to be getting worse, and people are leaving, at this rate thier idea of having 5 fable games will just never happen. Unless they go back, which it dosent seem like they are doing, LH are just going in thier own direction now, not really listening, the only thing it seems they took from complaints in fable 2 was that people liked armour, aside from that it seemes they didnt listen. And just watered down the game further.

Worst RPG/MMORPG game...I would probably say Starwars Galaxies because of what it was and what they did to it. Loved the diversity of it, commerce, interactivity, etc... and truly loved the 24 different professions to choose from. Sadly it was destroyed because of that NGE and 24 professions became 13 with the Jedi profession being chosen from the start. The CURB was bad, but survivable however the NGE was just a spit of Tabasco sauce in the eye of people that really enjoyed it. Where I once saw 100+ players roaming 1 section of a zone I saw maybe 3 people on at peak times.

If I don't like an RPG, it usually also means I don't consider it an RPG because they lack the proper parts.

Two Worlds.

Didn't have to look to far into this thread to find this game. :P

I'm indifferent about it. The armor and weapon upgrading was awesome. The story, voice acting, graphics, and battle system were flat out bad. The magic system was also not great, I would level up my magic abilities but not be able to find a place to get an upgraded spell. I got to level 45 in 15 hours of gameplay so it was short as well.

Worst RPG I've ever played? Maybe, I can't think of one that is worse off the top of my head.

I don't hate any RPG games, but I never really got into WoW, Oblivion or KotOR

Edit: just to make sure everyone in the thread disagrees with me, I like Mass Effect and love Fable

Another edit: I've never played and JRPGs but they don't appeal to me at all

umm...

there is an entire music genre that svcks.

It's called J-pop. and I didn't see it on MTV, I used to live in japan.

I tried a number of j-rpgs over the years but I suppose I just can't get into that particular style of art direction, also the grinding and lame stories. although i have never owned a Wii, playstation or Xbox, so maybe there is something really cool that I missed. I've seen rave reviews for demon souls.

Don't bash him for saying he doesn't like something. Thats just flaming him, and he has already responded. Now before I get flamed, I'll say this, I hate JRPG's but not because of art style. Its because the majority of them, in fact I have never heard a good story, has always had BAD stories, and completely ridiculous characters/NPCs. I mean, to the point where it was hard to play hit because it just. Did. Not. Make. Sense. Now, I will say having a young protagonist is ok if the enemies are the same age. Not like friggin pedophile demon-vampire kings of Hell. And yes, A lot of the stories are like that. Final Fantasy turned me off on ONE game, then I'd read a plot summary on the others and know what to expect so I could avoid it. Blue Dragon was the only game with a cool concept (shadows pets) but the story and characters once again killed it.

As for all time worst? Mostly for hype: Two Worlds.

i preferred ME 2 but mostly thats because i think ME should have been a fps in the first place. guns and rpgs just dont mesh as well as guns and shooters. forced third person views and stupid cover systems just bug the hell out of me but im afraid that not going to change for ME 3 :( as for the inventory system im glad they got rid of that. im very OC about making sure each character is equipped with the best gear and constantly having to click in and out of inventory menus got really tiresome. also it didnt make sense from a logic or story perspective. how come they send out their one and only SPECTRE candidate with the wimpiest rifle in the game. making the rifle upgradeable through the weapons guy made much more sense to me.

the one thing i missed from ME 1 was the huge areas to explore on the main station, i love easter egg hunts so hunting for those green guys to scan was lots of fun for me. i hope they bring them back in ME3 cause the station was so small and cramped in ME2
