The worst thing about Skyrim

Post » Sun Jun 01, 2014 2:30 pm

What iyo is the worst thing about Skyrim?

For me it has to be the lack of customisation. It would have been so easy to include basic customisation options such as HUD/compass options (more than simple opacity) 3rd/1st person options, respec before leaving helgen keep, be able to drop quest items etc..

Guns!

More change after you do quests, like the Imperial/Stormcloak disagreement. To justify actually doing the quests.

Yeah, I'd have to say the complete lack of meaningful impact/consequences of your actions. Never noticed how much of a problem that was until I played through New Vegas.

I can't pick just one thing.

  • Quest markers, floating markers, and the placement of the compass at the top of the screen
  • Lack of attributes and a proper character creation system
  • Perk trees and all the % increase perks
  • Finisher moves
  • Brightly lit, linear dungeons that just aren't exciting to explore despite making up a huge chunk of the game's content
  • The cinematic intro
  • 3D map
  • Dragons
  • The whole concept of being dragonborn, which basically turns all characters into a battlemage
  • Disappointing faction questlines

The fact that it's hard to care about anyone and anything... there is a huge lack of depth to the world, its quests and characters. I want a reason to save the world from Alduin, not just because i've been told I have to do it because I just have too... ZZZZZZ. Thank gawd there's mods for this game.

Hard choice if I had to pick just one, I'd say the journal. The journal is just horrible, looks awful and lacks the information it's supposed to provide and the guy(s) who designed it and quality passed it should be kept far far away from TES VI...

Lack of choices & consequences. In the end no one gives a skeevers ass what you do or don't do.

The UI. What kind of braindead scamp spawned this horrific invention? No functionality, no aesthetics, just worst possible ideas slammed together.

I would have to agree...if I had to choose 1 thing, one concrete, easy to change thing, it would also be the UI...it was very impractical in vanilla.

The overarching points such as more depth and consequences are good in principle, but I'd like to see the people asking for this their idea of how to do this...because that is a BIG ORDER to fill...

Quest lines tending to be short, boring, and sometimes making less sense than an old spice commercial.

For my money, the biggest let down in Skyrim is the lack of effort on the Nords' culture. That is, the effort to make them more like the Imperials. The Nordic pantheon is mostly gone, we learn next to nothing new about their culture and it generally feels a lot like Cyrodiil. There are some good bits(like getting some clarity on what Ysmir is supposed to be), but they are too few.

To contrast this, I've barely finished the general questline in Eastmarch in The Elder Scrolls Online(not even been to the Rift yet), and I've learned the Nords hold an Olympics of sorts when the High king reaches his 10th year on the throne where champions from every hold compete in events like running and dueling, there are sects of followers of the "Old Gods"(Animal totems in that case), the Clans(families) like Stormfist are powerful political entities with their own forces, the Thanes are important rulers in the hold with a notable degree of autonomy(The Jarl has to earn their allegiance and support even if they themselves made them Thanes) and that it is customary for the Nords of Eastmarch to make a pilgrimage to Kynesgrove before a war or battle, a place which itself is home to a large coven of Priestesses to Kyne.

Seeing how I felt more was given to the Nords' lore in a single Hold in TESO than I feel the whole of Skyrim managed to do in Skyrim, that is a huge let-down on Bethesda's part. Not a criticism I have found after playing TESO, but it is better illustrated in light of it.

I get the feeling that the devs (or maybe Todd Howard, Mr "fantasy is knights running around killing people") are more interested in homogenizing than diversifying the cultures of the Mannish races.

I get that feeling too. In the next game, I wouldn't be surprised if all the human races are just Imperials with different accents.

Loading screens are the worst thing about Skyrim.

But, I guess, we all put up with it.

First runner up would be quest-breaking glitches and bugs.

Choice and consequences.

Nothing you do, from quest decisions to what race and gender you pick, matters.

I wish the faction quests were longer like they were in Oblivion.

But I have this much to say. The good things outweigh the bad by a long shot. Yeah, there are things that get on my nerves but no game is perfect. One of the best games I've ever played. It is definstely my favorite TES game and I've been playing since Daggerfall.

Ethetan, every thread you post is only to complain about something.

if you really have so many issues with this game it probably just isn't the type of game you enjoy, and perhaps you should go try another

Yet another person who thinks that criticizing a game is wrong. If you don't like these threads, do not post in them. It is very simple. The only way things improve are through feedback and criticism. Skyrim is a good game, but it's not the best it could be. When I play it, it is clear that some aspects were rushed or that some parts of the game were lacking in spirit. The civil war isn't even a civil war, the main quest is a joke because the final fight with Alduin is extremely easy and the dragons don't pose a threat, the guards shatter immersion by magically knowing I'm the Listener, the guilds were short and acknowledgement of the world was nearly nonexistent between holds and questlines. I can say good things about the game, but for things to improve in TES6 people actually need to speak constructively.
