To my understanding, just before the bombs dropped the United States was staging a massive invasion of China, with their stronghold being the Yangtze valley. It is also stated that the majority of America's most advanced military technology was shipped over there (such as most of the t-51b's). Also, given the size of China's landmass and army, I think it is safe to assume several millions of American troops were probably over there. So, do you guys think it is possible that a small American area exists within China now? With the numbers and advanced tech, do you think there could still be an American presence that has been able to lock a substantial area down with their advanced tech? Or, going further, could they actually be in control of the country now?

And that should mean anything after the great war because?

an American enclave (note, not "The Enclave", I mean in the dictionary sense) in China would make some sense, as would a chinese enclave in Alaska.

Another point to think about...what happend to "British Hong Kong"? Perhaps the remains of the US Military took shelter there?

Tactically, unless the Yangtze Front was nuked (heavily) by the Chinese, an American stronghold could have survived to these days.
But that leaves the question; why haven't they returned? Enclave could use a hand. Or a million of hands.
But the way Fallout (or USA of 50's althogether) potraits Communism, I think its heavily possible that China didn't have any pains nuking their own territory.

It would be militarily impossible to keep a stronghold in China indefinitely, the supply lines are simply too long and the sheer number of Chinese too big. The Americans would eventually be crushed like the Germans in Russia in WWII.

In a prolonged isolation, humans develop methods to survive. They likely would have split into economic and military wings and survived like the Enclave.

There are Chinese enclaves in the US, like the Shi in San Francisco, so it's likely that there are similar American ones in China.

Hmm, unless China really nuked itself (?) or, that particular area got nuked by the US or someone else, a few million armed to the teeth T-51b wielding soldiers should indeed have had quite a chance of survival, maybe even to form a country. PA gives great protection against radiation so they'd stand quite a chance against fallout, and, with no/very weak resistance survival would be a lot easier for them than for any other non-in-a-vault population.

But the question is valid - why haven't they come back to the US, or, signalled of their presence in any way?

Perhaps they can't?

I mean, we know it is possible to cross the Atlantic, what with Moriarty and Tenpenny, but the Pacific is a different animal altogether, not to mention that I think it'd be pretty hard to get everybody back to the US. Possibly they also have a vested interest in staying, or are simply unable to - much like the Shi in San Fran.

I think it's entirely possible that they're over there and stubbornly holding onto some land. Again, the Shi have managed to form a Chinese enclave in California, there's no reason why Americans with T-51b's and heavy weapons couldn't do the same.

Perhaps they're still trying to carry on the war, after 200 years, under a Colonel Kurtz-like figure? The ghouls at Mama Dolce's certainly are.
