TheDaywalker's Faerie Realms

Post » Sat Oct 16, 2010 5:21 pm

The old wizard stumbled forward, feeling the poison slowly flooding his veins. Yet not noticing the pain caused by the cursed knife, which stuck in his upper back, anymore. So they finally got him, last wizard born of dragon's blood, master of the hidden paths. Heading out for the chair which stood just an arm length before him, he felt the man in black cloak behind him, grinning at his demise.

"What did they pay you for your bloody deeds man? - Ah, yeah, I know you're not allowed to speak a word...else you'd have to share my fate, haha!!!" The old wizard felt his breath getting shorter and the picture of the chair right before him faded away like the smoke of a blown out candle. Before having a chance to sit down, he suddenly felt his legs loosing their strength and fell hard to the stoney floor of his living room.

He lay there for a while, feeling the poison laming piece after piece of his body and he surely knew as soon as it came up to heart and lungs, it would be over...

The villain with the black cloak walked through the room and stopped infront of the dying wizard. "Any last words old leatherface?!", he asked, before he kicked his victim into the side. The old wizard didn't even react to this, well how could he?! He was lamed entirely, couldn't even speak a word. The villain kneeled down, grabbed into the wizard's long grey hair and pulled his head around, so that he could look into the dying man's pale face.

"Any last words?!", the villain asked again, not really expecting an answer anymore at this stage. "Well nobody shall say I didn't gave you any chance, hahaha!!!" Then he pulled a long twobladed dagger out of his boots and beheaded the dead wizard with one trained move. Then he threw the head into a corner of the room and let his eyes scan the interiors for some loot. Nothing of interest he noticed quickly, well, at least not for a man like him. But that Sujamma, right there on the small table beside the wizard's bed, that was that kind of stuff he couldn't leave behind. The bottle was nearly untouched and the villain sat down in the chair, cause he knew it would take him a while to empty that giant beast...

It took him about 2 Hours as he remembered where he was and that it'd be the right time to dissapear. He burped, hiccoughed and farted twice, before he rised from the chair. It took him a while to figure out which of the two windows he'd have to climb out of, but at last decided it would be the left one. Climbing down the thick green ivy-ranks that covered almost the whole outside walls of the wizard's tower, he suddenly heared a high anoying voice inside his head or were it a thousand voices at the same time. He slipped, but gained grip again on the ranks. Looking down he tried to guess the distance, he still had to go before ground. He was too drunk to figure out an exact number, but for sure high enough to brake every single of his bones. "Damn, why did I drink this stuff again, hick, I have to concentrate on climbing down, else I will brake my neck! I ...must...concentrate!!! Can't let that stupid voices letting disturb me. What at all are they trying to say to me?!"

"What we are trying to say to you?!", the voices answered, as if they had read his thoughts. "We're only here for one reason and that is to tell you our master's last words!" "Your master's last words???", the villain replied and was wondering why he did so. "Who in MolagBal's name is your master and what does he say?"

"He is the keeper of the hidden paths, he masters the seven winds and...", said the voices. "Shut up, nobody wants to hear that nonsense!!!", the villain shouted and realised that all around him was moving clockwise. "He is the keeper of the hidden...", the voices tried to hammer into his head.

"Yeah, I damn well know, who he was, but by the Gates of Oblivion, I'm asking you, what did he say???", shouted the villain out loud. It was quiet for some seconds and then he heared the voices for a last time and they said: "FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL!!!"

As I don't see a chance to get a TC done without any help, I will do this WIP now. A large fantasy style mod for Morrowind, which will be placed in interior cells only, so that there will be no conflicts with other mods. It will contain lots of my 3D-artworks I have made over the last month, but also feature retextured standard tilesets.

I will create new winged faerie-races, own faerie lore, new custom faerie weapons and more. This will be a standalone mod, but the beginning of the yourney will be in Lestat de Lioncourt's "Skyrim for Tes3", and there you will be introduced to the mysterious ice-faeries and the secret of the hidden paths. The little story I wrote is a part of the storyline of my "Faerie Realms" and you will be involved in this in a way. But I won't tell more at the moment...

PS: Don't even think of asking me, if this will be a lorefriendly mod!!! :nono:

Nice little story there. The screenshots look very interesting, even if I am not 100% sure what's going on in some of them.

If you want some inspiration/ideas you could try searching the Unseelie and Seelie courts, which are basically two fey (faerie?) factions that plot against eachother in the world of Greyhawk. (Dungeons and Dragons)

Anyways, sounds like it will be cool project. :foodndrink:

Try replacing Greyhawk with 'the vast majority of celtic mythology', actually. Even the Seelie court is a good deal crueller in the myths.

I guess it is not the most important intension of a cool mod to be 100% lore friendly, but this is just my personal opinion...Whoever played TES1:ARENA knows - there where just 3 citys on the Arena Vardenfell map and NOT ONE of them was included in TES3: Morrowind...is this 100% lore friendly? I love the elders scrolls lore, but I guess every modder should do what he wanna do...lore frienly or not...everyones personal choice to download or play.

The story line sounds very intriguing, especially how you mock the assassin lol. Also the models I've seen, again I'll say, grand work.

Only one bad thing to say...you're utterly repetitive with screenshots :P hehe just kidding, but many of them do show the same things :)

All in all, can't wait to see some more work, to bad you won't continue your work on your TC for some time, it looked crazy as well.

Good luck!

Concerning lore, I will create all from scratch, so I can do whatever comes to mind. There will be several small realms, each having it's unique style and story. Creating this is what does interest me most.

At the moment I'm working on the first faerie-race in blender and I hope I can post some screens of it this weekend. Well, I can say so far, that it might be a bit different from what you imagine it to be! :P

Concerning lore, I agree with greenwarden in the Oblivion Mods forum: "Just because one dude gets their lore-panties in a knot doesn't mean you should pay attention."

As a player who has run Aquan's amazing Faerie Realm many times and, more importantly, as someone who lives with the creator of the equally colorful and fantastic Morrowind4Kids I am predisposed to be pretty excited about this mod. And I have to say, it looks great. Keep up the good work!

Glad most of you like this WIP sofar.I will start another cell tomorrow with different design, representing a second realm. So watchout for new screens, you know I can't keep them secret for long!!!

Here something new I made in blender today: Giant oakfruits, big enough to have a comfortable room inside. I will make an oak armor too, having the fruit's cap as a helmet, a leaf as a shield and armor parts out of bark. Already can picture it! :D

Hmm, I choose pic.leech.it, because it does not bombard you with commercial popups, llike the other ones I know. If you want to suggest me another uploader, which is free of spammy commercials?!! :)

This looks very nice so far Daywalker! I'm sorry that you weren't able to muster enough help with your previous TC. I wish I had more time, I haven't touched my own mods for about a week now..... and I have no internet at my new apartment. If anyone has some cheap, mobile, highspeed internet ideas for a laptop, then I am all ears :)

"...It was said that those little winged faeries, were spending their entire life in absolute darkness. But they had the eyes of cats and a phosphoric greenish gleam was shining right through their skin. It is also said that their veins did bleed liquid green light and their blood is known to be one of the most powerful poison, that exists. Old scrolls mention, that assassins used that blood to kill the legendary 6 dragonborne wizard's of Tamriel, back in the dawn of days.

The old folks call these creatures "Dungeon Crawlers", because that shall be the place where they use to hide, when outside their own realm, which is known as "The Halls of Phyria". Those creatures are only half a man's size large, but they are sneaky and twobit and always attack from behind. Gladly the last one that existed outside its realm, was killed by God Vivec about 300 years ago. And he himself had been the one, who sealed the hidden paths, which lead to the fae's world "Zhynalda". So praise Vivec, for we won't have to meet one of those cruel beasts anymore..."

Tinypic is one of the best I've used, it doesn't resize your pics, it has good compression, and there aren't very many ads (with Adblock you can get rid of them anyways).

Dungeon-Crawler (update):

"From the savannah at the bottom of the "Whistling Hills" comes this mean little creature. The so called "Stinger". Although it has no wings, it is still a fae. The special thing about this race is, it has to steal magical energy from his relatives, to be able to cast a spell which gifts them bound wings. You can guess that the faerie folks, doesn't even matter wether they are good or evil, don't like those "Thiefs" very much. Sylvinn, the wise old queen of the faes has set a price on each stingers head or should we better says, she set a price on the creatures' stings. For some reason the queen can't get enough of those..."

Tail is animated, have to find a way to make poison blooms be shot exactly from the tip of the sting. Guess I'll need a really good scripter for this!!! :D

@Starwarsguy: I'm sorry, but tinypics doesn't work with my connection. It takes me 2-3 minutes to upload a single pic. Pic.leech.it does that in about 2-3 seconds. Next alternative?! :)

Lovely rascal! (The race in the pic, not you! or maybe???).
However I don't quite enjoy the green stuff on the other faerie creatures body and wings the texture looks very noticeably procedural. Methinks you can come up with something much better =)

Great stuff, all in all! (Lovely new world this is).

Yeah, you're right, the textures are procedural, that is because I have just started learning photoshop and at the moment my handpainted textures svck. Before I release this mod, I will be good enough I hope and then change the textures! :(

What I usually do (With much varied result, but I've been able to paint fairly good face textures out of nothing like this).

0, If there is a uv, use it in separate layer just so you have an idea of what your painting above.
1, Make a grayish background.
2, Use big dodge and burn tools to make the outline of the texture, no details
3, Make the brush smaller and try to figure out some major details
4, Make the brush smaller and start working on the smaller details
5, Time to go back and fourth between the steps to eventually get the whole picture as you like it.
6, Time for color! This is the step you have to find out for yourself, my only advice is to first establish a palette. on the edge of the image or in another image just dot down the colors you will be using, then use the eyedropper.

THX, I know how to paint faces and other things. I studied arts and graphic design some years ago, but sadly our photoshop introduction ended with loading and saving a file! :P I find it very hard to control the line, working with a mouse and I can't draw sharp and clear details like on paper. Everything looks like someone dropped his cup of coffee on my sheet. At the moment I'm watching a lot of tutorials on youtube and try to learn from them.

Your life will change when you get a tablet - seriously go get a drawing tablet - working with a mouse is tear enducing - just if you are using GIMP be wary since Wacom tablets spit the dummy at GIMP - it works but crashes often - I was so grateful for getting a tablet as a gift last year it made doing faces enjoyable :)

I already thought about buying me one of these, but if I do, it has to be a large one and those are very expensive. I will do some training first. before I decide to get such a tablet. Or I may buy me some good pens and do the textures on paper, then scan them in an maybe tweak a bit afterwards. We'll see!!! ;)

Stinger (update), not yet final version, but for thr moment I can live with that texture. When the creature is wearing an armor, you won't see so much of the green parts at all. And as the place where they live is pitch black, I need to keep a bit of glowing on their bodies. :P
