I feel like theft is far to easy in skyrim vs oblivion.I also feel that we should be able to sell hot items without the speech perk etc.I mean its not like they have a barcode or GPS on that bow or potion lol.I wish that theft was both more challenging and more rewarding at the same time.I know you can join the thieves guild etc.I feel like we lost something in transition from oblivion to skyrim. I don't feel that theft is better in oblivion, but I feel it's something that needs more attention in the next games being put out in this series. What are your thought on improving theft ideas etc?

I wholeheartedly agree. The thief career should be more rewarding as a freelancer and the essence is in the loot and the npc reactions. The npc A.I. is crucial to make me feel like an accomplished thief (learning patrolling routes, bypassing security devices and animals, solving intricate puzzles, more thief tools like gas bombs, area of effect distraction, a non-lethal weapon to put the guards to sleep). There should be more places and buildings designed so as to favor a stealth approach and reward the success with appropriate unique loot. I understand the selling to fences only as a need to ballance the whole thing so it doesn't become too easy to get rich.

I think that it is actually pretty hard to balance. If they allow to sell your stolen goods to anybody then it even gets more easier than it is.
The biggest problem is the player from my perspective. I mean how many times did someone ever go to jail or paid the fine if they got caught? I guess not many. You just reload and try again. As long as the player has the possibility to do that, stealing will always be easy.
Im planning to do a thief build and will not reload if I get caught. That should make stealing much more exciting and balanced. Do you risk grabbing the gold coins and risk landing in jail or not?

If you get caught, go to jail and break out, it's really fun. Even when the Thieves guild had full influence, I'd still choose to go to jail and just sneak out without anybody noticing.
