Theme/Music of the game

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 10:26 pm

Ok, so we've all seen the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmKZchM0AiE.

And I noticed that the menus seem to have a very futuristic theme to it, with the light music and brightly colored backgrounds.

I personally think it could use some alt-rock for the music to symbolize the chaos that unfolds around the fall of the original-depicted-ideal-world or hip-hop/rap to symbolize the life in the ghetto for the resistance.. (i hope this isn't racist or anything, 'cause it IS what hip-hop is all about.. that and pimping hoes and slapping b!tches)

this is nowhere near a game breaker for me, simply because i'm not an obsessive compulsive (i AM a bit of a music head though). Just thought it'd be interesting to see what the community thinks.

Please be reminded that you will be hearing this music as you customize your characters, guns, perks, settings, and other stuff.

My question is, do you like it?
answer in the poll and replies. =)

note to devs: please don't change anything based on this topic if it's gonna take up the resources used to finish the actual game!

Love,
-zcs-

p/s: i don't hate pop, i listen to it once in awhile.. but it's waaayy overrated. (just my opinion)

the only like music i hear is when youre at the menu... and its a menu...

when hes actually in the game it sounds like dramatic music that compliments what youre doing in the game and stuff like that, ive never noticed the music until now, how do you watch a video of brink and think "i dont like this music"

I think it may take away from the game since you are trying to listen to the symphony of gunfire, explosions and the yelling of angry men.

How about some Metal though?

Since The Ark is about cutting edge technology and a "vision of the future" Perhaps some industrial or electronica infused Metal. Of course, nothing is more epic on the battlefield than Power Metal.

hahaha.. easy, i've been watching brink videos quite a lot.. hoping to catch something people might miss.. enough to also know that in the cinematic the anger stabbed his swords all the way through a giant container..

as for in-game music, i hope they give an option to turn it off, i like to sound-[censored] for footsteps and gunfire.. x)

I think it should be like the futuristic feel when you look over the pristine part of the Ark. The Slums should get a mix between Hip Hop and Rock. Because the slums have a very diverse and dirty feel to it.

I really like it, I've just start composing film music myself, and this is really good.

Oh, and [censored] metal...

I like it, but not in games.

You do know there is more than 1 genre of Metal.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_subgenres

I doubt you have listened to them all. Metal is a very versatile genre, and it definitely has it's place in games, film and anything else.

Of course I know there's more then one genre of metal, I listen to some myself, but it doesn't have a place in games or film at all, this is my point of view, it makes everything dark and gloomy, if any game could benefit slightly perhaps GoW could. Never in a game like Brink. But then again, I wouldn't mind hearing Dubstep whilst playing Brink, which I'm sire you wouldn't, it's all down to personal preference.

Actually, the majority of hip-hop isn't about living in the ghetto and slapping hoes. The majority of modern hip-pop is, but the old stuff and a lot of the new stuff that isn't ridiculously popular with teenage white kids is mature. And old rap like Tupac, even when it's about the Ghetto, the topic is about how it's hard and how joining a gang doesn't change anything.

And in my opinion some Folk/Viking/Pirate metal would go pretty well in Brink. It's pretty fast-paced without being sped-up in the studio (DRAGONFORCE!), and the lyrics aren't focused on depressing topics. Plus, it would show the mix of cultures on the Ark since they incorporate a lot of non traditional metal instruments.

The menu music, imo, is amazing. It has a very well set ambient that fits very well, they just need to make it transition abit better.

As far as ingame music, im not sure. A game like this, i'd disrespect alot of typical genre's. To me, they wouldnt fit, but who knows. I'm sure they'll do great, whatever they choose.

"it makes everything dark and gloomy"...."doesn't have a place in games or film at all." You obviously have a very limited exposure to Metal...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7w4ZtL1dkQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43T-GUPHPLE

I definitely didn't hear anything "dark and gloomy" there, and I could also see these songs in film.

As for Metal songs in Brink...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdOxm5UQKUQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehwYjuZ6e_Q

these are all viable choices.

I'm not saying that Brink should be a Metal fest, I'm just showing you that there is more to Metal than you give it credit for.

I think it should be a mix of rock, hip hop and futuristic ambient/dramatic futuristic music would fit. I think it all depends on the area.

Not all Hip Hop and Rap is about six, money, swag, drugs and shooting people. Like for example, if you ever listen to Eminem's music, he doesn't sing about any of that. Or Q-unique, you don't hear any of that.

But for the menu theme, I like this.

It was hard finding all instrumental. I initially thought power metal would suit brink. Something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apRtamRa3NI&feature=related or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ts04ZRszUw. Folk metal ended up working better.

liking the music they got in the menus for gameplay i think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHpOtrKr9bQ slowed down a bit would be a good kind of flow giving it a bit of this future tech feel.

Metal and Hard Rock is virtually all i listen to, so you know where I'm gonna go with this. I think these would fit in most. Although i think Dubstep would fit in excellent as well.

I think that there are a few songs which would suit it more.

No. 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKOngTfTMs0 by Led Zeppelin. Has a futuristic feel to it and start. Sort of saddens and reflects the Ark's state. Is fantastic for cutscenes. Although they may have to skip some of the first minute.

No. 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbQgn_SyCPQ by Dust for Life. Is filled with action. Would be perfect for opening cutscene and outlook on Earth, especially thanks to the lyrics "Release the Flood, and loose control !"

No. 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfkU4Moee84 by Alice In Chains. Slow, actiony and sad-feely, although reflects wastelands maybe better (The link thinks it's Sickman. It's not. It's definately Rooster)

No.4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PQYwENwIuw&ob=av2e by Dead by Sunrise. It's an excellent song, where the first verse could be the Resistance, the second the Security, this song might really suit it. The third and fourth verses can fit in with both factions.

No. 5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbGJeXShopkby Rage Against the Machine. Certainly fits the BRINK part and suits the Resistance. TBH almost any Rage Against the Machine Song can suit the Resistance.

I had other choices, but i think these were the best ones. Please take time to listen.

EDIT: Unfinished final sentence.
