Themed Conventions. Worth it?

Post » Fri Jul 03, 2015 9:16 am

Does anyone here enjoy themed conventions like Comic-Con, etc.? Are they worth the trip, expenses, etc.?

I've never been to one of these events before. However, one of my all time favorite authors is going to be at something called NerdCon-Stories in October, and I was thinking about driving up there to see him, maybe get a book signed. Maybe discover some new authors, meet some new people.

Please discuss the pros/cons of these events, and let's talk about your experiences. Maybe that will help me make up my mind.

Thanx!

conventions, eh?

there is an Anime & Gaming convention that goes on in my province yearly, i usually go (couldn't afford it this year sadly, money is sorta tight when you are unemployed) and I have a blast..
I buy way to much merch, go to a few panels, get some stuff signed by some of my favorite VA's, get slaughtered in the HALO and CoD tournaments, do fairly well in the Super Smash Bros. and Mario kart tournaments, play some games that are only available in Japan (last year I played Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost, and have been trying to find a way to import it since), take some pictures of some of the better Cosplay outfits, play a few rounds of Settlers of Catan, and so much more...

i went to the convention the first time in an attempt to conquer my fear and uneasiness in crowds, and it worked really well so i have been going back each year since (with the exception of this year). I have a blast, and have met some interesting people at them..
