Theorising and Relatability

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 6:12 pm

In light of recent comments on the forum, I realise that many of you may be more than a little fed up reading my many theory threads. If this is the case, then I apologise. Everything I have posted is the result of a great deal of hard work, and I have lost count of how many hours I have spent carefully checking various details in order to try and help us all get a better understanding of what's going on with the game's story.

But at this stage, I think it is perhaps better if I wait and see what comes out of QuakeCon before posting any more theories.

And so instead of posting my ideas, I want to hear yours. And I promise I will keep my own ideas completely out of this thread. What do you all think is going on? Are there any story elements you would like to see revealed that we haven't heard about yet? Or perhaps some of you have noticed clues that none of us have picked up on. It is time for me to hear what you all have to say

EDIT: due to popular demand, I will be posting up some brand new ideas shortly before QuakeCon. Watch this space...

QuakeCon will just open the flood gates even further. Will you be able to contain yourself?

The basic clues were already revealed. AS with the skyrim demo we saw the strong emphesis was mainly on dragons. with fallout 4 it isnt as deliberate as that but we get a good glimpse at the synths and having a trusty companion as codsworth whos your companion from prewar it already reveals the main part of what the story and theme of this game is going to be.

Do yo thing, gkk7z. Theorizing ain't against any rules here. Personally, I don't believe most of your theories, but they are a fun read regardless. And it's worth appreciating the work that goes into them. And I'm actually sold on the Jack and Nora one. It's my favorite.

Anyway, on the topic at hand, I have seen two theories that I really like, but they aren't mine, so I can't take any credit.

I believe credit for first one goes to Styles, who proposed that the androids' intelligence could be the result of Institute scientists figuring out how to upload their own consciousness into artificial bodies in order to prolong their lives. He had a bunch of points to cover issues like "why don't they remember it" and the like, but this is the overall theory. I love it because it is the only way I can see myself giving a crap about the androids. It also is a nice way to explain how their technology exists in such a compact form.

More recently, another person on here said that they suspected Tobar the ferryman wasn't just some crazy who cuts out brain chunks for his own creepy reasons, but was actually contracted by the Institute to deliver them this brain matter for their research. Why do they want it? Who knows. But I like the tie-in. Also, to the person who came up with this, I'd love it if you'd step forward and elaborate more on your thoughts for this theory, because it intrigues me.

My theory is that your character is actually a descendant of Kanye west, and therefor yeezus reincarnated. I theorize this because todd said "you can play as a male or a female." And of course, a descendant of yeezus, or yeezus reincarnated, would be male or female.

Coincidence? I think not.

We need more foil hats! Just joking.

Keep on going with you theories. Even if I do not reply to them, I usually read them...beginning at post 1 till the bloody end.

It's not about tinfoiling or anything, but a wider perspective of view - wich may gives us a better idea of certain things. Or what Bethesda did on certain places/mechanics and such.

And I don't know how other people see it, but I am always hyped if I can find something "new" (even if it's just new to me, or new again (critical brain memory error at 0x54AC18AF).

Means your work is appreciated and trolls will be eaten alive.

And afterwards for our own sake: cookies and beer!

While I sort of understand the theory overload some are experiencing I do find gkk7z's theories interesting to read and fun to discuss.

There are several other theories I think could be in the game, such as the human mind dowloaded into androids or the Midwestern BOS clashing with Lyons' BOS over the Institute tech.

So I just read the first 2 pages of that thread and well my brain hurts. I don't know if I should be mad at myself for fully reading the theory, if it turns out to be correct im going to be playing the game like: "Psssh I found out all of this back in July son."

I think the spouse will play a small role kind of like what GK has suggested maybe talking to us indirectly through holotapes, I'd like to actually meet up with the spouse during the questline maybe as a brief companion but I think if you meet up with your spouse at all during the game they will surely die at a point.

(what the people said about dont stop i back plus)

Well, I am not sure this is a theory but since I am to shy to make my own thread.

Church of the Abby making a return ?? ( I don't see followers of the apoc being a faction again could these guys be a stand in).

I well wiki'd Church's in boston and man they have a ton of historic ones. As my religious knowledge is well not great.

The Old north church (2 if by land) theres also a ye old historic church every direction.

Trinity Church is one of the top 10 historic sites in america (is this any retaliation to trinity Collage in Dublin by faith or just Irish).

Kings chapel

and centrel congretional church.

I dont know but it just seems with so many areas ripe for artifact collecting the Abbey of the road would be kind of cool to see. ( to me)

Thats all I have

I wouldn't be surprised by the spouse's death on the shaft entrance since the non-protagonist is carrying the baby, maybe he/she dies protecting the baby or maybe the critically injured spouse enters the vault with you.

Short of a leak I doubt we are going to find out what happens to the family until the game is released or somebody demoing lets something slip, since they have deliberately not shown us anything about what happens to them after the blast wave due to spoilers.

You really think they would kill off the other spouse so early though? It's def possible I just wonder if they really wanna milk the family aspect...like your world is upside down nothing is the same but atleast you know/think that somewhere out there in the wasteland is your family, you follow bread crumb after breadcrumb until eventually you find them/the spouse. Theres maybe a quest or two where you're like "Yes with my spouse and I back together maybe I can make something of a life out here" then WHAM BAM they're killed off.

Course that all hindges on the idea that players will actually care about said spouse.

Regarding theories and such in general.... back in the day I used to host an online chat-based RPG and I tried to do it 'by the book' by preparing stories and so on, but inevitably my players would do something totally off the wall and I'd end up changing things drastically. So, later in the game's life, I adopted a different practice ---- I had a skeleton outline and then basically created the story BASED on what the players did.

If they ~deduced~ some very clever secret that I had planned all along of course then I would snap my fingers and relay their "findings" to them... by CREATING them on the spot. ;)

Now, naturally the Fallout devs cannot do this, but I have to wonder if they read these theory threads and think, "O.M.G.! That would be so cool if we had actually thought about that and planned it, instead of it just being a really amazing coincidence!"

Frankly, I wouldn't be heartbroken to have the plot "spoiled" since the fun of these games (for me) is in the day-to-day interactions, not the over-arching Plotline ™. I had more fun raiding the Super-mart than pursuing the main storyline in Fallout-3, eg.

I think its possible or that they will leave the hope (in the taken from the vault earlier theories) that they survived only to find they died years earlier.....I really think the son is going to have the major part to play as an advlt in whatever form.....ghoul, cyborg, android with son's memories, leader of the 'bad guys' etc.

Keep them coming. They maybe long and they maybe a little out there but to hell with all that.

My theory and I just came up with on the spot and isn't supported by any research or facts is:

The CW BOS will make an appearance to save the androids after making contact with the railroad faction. But the railroad faction is being supported and used by the MW BOS to steal the Institute's tech and destroy the Institute. The Institute is actually good and are using androids for the betterment of humans while treating them decently (kinda like the NCR treats its citizens) but the propaganda machine is labeling them evil because they aren't sharing the wealth as quickly as the lazy masses demand. So Lyons will think he is "doing good" but is really just being used because he is a bleeding heart. The CW BOS is planning on killing all androids and the PC will need to choose whether to kill all the androids or allow them to live but in a state of slavery.

What if the MWBos conquest against the Calculator, and its robot army is infact not Canon at all? What if they lost and every single MWbos member is infact lobotomized? And turned into;''Androids".
Unless ofcourse it"s Lyons Brohood o'Steel who's present in Boston. It's a little bit far fetched I know.

The only thing I'm theorizing is tons of complaints DAY 1 from not being able to install, bugs, not liking the voice, engine, lore, the game at all.
About 80% of people complaining will go on to play through the game, 15% quit but come back to it later; 5% quit and spend their days boycotting Bethesda completely.

Completionists will feel complete, Angry Joe will do a review (possibly complain in video as well), Speedrunners will speedrun...

Eh, if people don't like reading your threads, then can always just... not read them. Why they feel they need to go to the effort of reading them in order to be fed up is rather strange to me.

I guess indignation and outrage are exciting and addictive, and some people just have to go to some effort in order to get their fix :)?

If you're starting too many threads and spamming the forum people can always report your threads to the moderators. The only thing that I guess might be genuinely annoying is if you repeatedly post at great length in order to dominate other people's threads with your ideas.

If anything Quake Con will give us more fuel to speculate. Which is good because theories based on evidence are more fun to contemplate.

Keep making more theories if it's what you enjoy, as much as they make my brain implode from the complete randomness that is thrown into them and the majority of unlikely connections you seem to make, I still read them.

I still think I can debunk them all by making a ugly character and spouse.

What do I think is going on? A whole lot of awesome! A new Fallout! More stuff to shoot in the face. New and interesting ways to do so with all the customization options. Settlement building? Quantum powered awesomesauce in my book. A huge new area to explore. I can't wait to get my hands on it, and shoot stuff in the face. Yeah I'm the stealthy sniper type... That said I'll leave plot speculation to those who are better at connecting the dots than I am. Too concerned with the singular dot in my scope. I have read each of your topics with interest and I find them entertaining, by all means continue. Hopefully QuakeCon gives us more footage to digest. November can't get here fast enough.
