Theory for the voiced PC in the trailer

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:30 am

Given the backlash felt within the community about the possibility of a voiced playable character, I'd like to offer my own insight based on previous Bethesda titles involving big actor names.

The voice in the trailer has all but been confirmed to be Troy Baker, not someone you recruit to do a couple of trite side-dialogue.

Similarly, Fallout 3 featured a star-studded name, Liam Neeson, who played the role of your father. It would be unlikely and impractical for a voiced PC due to the nature of communication in the game focusing on subtitles, and the fact that not a single Beth game up to this point has ever featured a voiced PC.

Therefore, I'd assume that Troy Baker's role in the game is more supplementary. Perhaps your father again. After all, it has not been confirmed that the man you see tending to the dog is your PC, it very well could simply be a place holder as of now.

Maybe he voices the dog. Maybe.

Called it yesterday somewhere else- the talking guy isn't the player. He's an android and we have to kill him (or at least, I'll be killing him cuz I'm not into androids).

If we're gonna be calling stuff, I'll put my money on - instead of fus-ro-dah powers for the mc - you'll be able to command your dog/companion from range without having to start a conversation.

Just click the power button, time stops al-la the favorite menu, choose what to order, and then the pc spouts a little flavor dialogue after you leave the menu. Or something close to that nature.

I'd be very much for killing anyone with Troy Baker's voice.

Why's that? If they're going to have someone as monotone, talentless and irritating as Troy Baker pollute my games with his so-called voicework, they might as well give his roles to NPCs I can shoot and therefore stop them from talking.

You see, I've heard the names Troy Baker and Nolan North, but... I can't place them. Apart from Troy Baker=Booker in Bioshock Infinite.

The guy in the trailer might be someone you hunt after he escaped Vault 111.

I'm usually incredibly pessimistic especially after Skyrim but I just honestly can't see them moving to a voiced protagonist. It goes against everything they've done for the past 15 years+. However, there's always the possibility they want to expand in to new areas.

Your reasoning is a tad flawed. Using the principle that Bethesda never did X before in a game so it wont be in FO4 is a pretty weak premiss. For it to be a strong premiss Bethesda could have never done something new with their games and never had any radical changes. Yet this isn't the case at all. Bethesda changes things with their games. They removed attributes from skyrim, and despite the gloom and doom and a bit of worry I honestly felt before the game launched I can say that their lack didn't keep me from enjoying Skyrim. I did not 6 months after it release think this game svcks because I can't choose my intelligence or strength. After 6 months of playing I pretty much never worried about it again. In my opinion Bethesda didn't ruin the series despite the predictions. It didn't feel dumbed down it didn't limit my choice of archetypical characters. Gopher (Skyrim youtuber) was more than able to create a lets play of a wimp turned hero.

Just because Bethesda has never done it before isn't something i would use as an anchor for why they wont do something in a future game. They have proven that they are more than willing to tell players to ?svck it up princess? when it comes to design changes and frankly their track record is better than the fan feedback on the changes. People screamed that FO3 was going to first person well it was a success for Bethesda. Skyrim their most successful game to date hardly suffered the doom and gloom. It seems that if the gamer community is against a fundemental design change Bethesda is doing, then it is in their best interest to IGNORE the community given the recent track record.

I'm not gunna lie, the though of forced back story and voiced character doesn't appeal to me. The ability to be who you want is a major appeal of Bethesda games. The forced back story (vault dweller) isn't too bad- I did it in fallout 3. But a voiced character would be forcing a personality on my character, and that will truly hurt the way I enjoy the game.

I hope he just voices another character, that would be epic. But I don't really want him voicing me.

Ocelot in MGSV, Pagan Min from Farcry 4, Joker from Batman Arkham Asylum, a Saint's Row VA, Joel from The Last of Us, Talion in Shadow of Mordor, Greed 2 from FMA Brotherhood, November 11 from Darker than Black, Yamato from Naruto, a bunch of other anime and game characters.

Personally I think Troy Baker is one of the best male voice actors. Hell I think all of the Funimation voices are pretty much good. I also liked Christopher Sabat as well.
