Why do people bring up Codsworth as a reason why it's impossible for you to be an android?

if we are an android we could of been built to look like our sons father so we could get close to him because the institute wants him dead or some silly plot twist

Maybe we're not an android but a cyborg. The PC died but someone patched his corpse together with some bio-implants and re-animated him ( frankenstein, robocop ). The vault suit is hiding most of your body so...

Well since stasis pods and cyrogenics are only similar in that they are able to extend life, your theory falls down at the beginning since your unlikely to be in a simulation or have simulated memories with a deep frozen popiscle brain.

They fact that the player doesn't ask about his family with codsworth isn't surprising since you also dont enter the family home, nor search for them in any way or know what you discovered in the Vault......because, well spoilers.

Its likely you leave the Vault knowing someone took them (probably the Institute) so asking codsworth if he had seen them would be pointless.....but for all we know entering the family home after codsworth might (and probably does) lead to dialogue about the family.

He don't disprove you being a android. But the whole maybe we are a android with some guy memory doesn't make much sense. From what we know of the Boston in FO3 MIT don't want robots having free will and being their own person. So why would they make one with those features in FO4?

Personally I just find being a android worse than just being married. It would feel like a unnecessary twist.

maybe mit gave us free will. so we can get close to our son. who is the leader of the resistance, then we get a code word and are forced to kill him.

Maybe MIT planted Codsworth there. Anyone watched the trueman show /w Jim Carrey? :P

Anyway... I'm really for the Android theory. However many people hate it. But what many people also hate - is the premade family stuff. So what I'm curious about is - if you hate both, which would be the lesser evil? Real human /w family background, or android /w fake familiy?

It's possible, and could be the reason why Bethesda hasn't commented on questions from fans regarding how much the family background will restrict our characters - they don't want to spoil the plot.

There's also the fact that the player character's title is the Sole Survivor.

It makes no sense to spend a lot of time on creating a couple that will generate a baby if the baby and one of the spouses will disappear, never to be seen again. But if they aren't dead, or if the baby isn't dead, your character won't be the sole survivor. Even if the baby left the vault much earlier than the player character did.

So - at least the baby, and possibly the spouse, might return, but not in the form/they might not be what we think.

(Edit: The Sole Survivor could refer to some catastrophe in the vault that only the player character survives ....?)

Of course there's also the boring possibility that Bethesda didn't take Sole Survivor as literally as I do.

Before DA:I was released, I and another forum member discussed the plot and said that the main antagonist *could* be Corypheus, but on the other hand that would be too obvious and a bit lame, so it was more likely that he would appear as the antagonist in a side quest. Well.... It was Corypheus.

To be fair they didn't really put effort into having the player create their spouse since they double as six selection.

About the baby. Todd said its appearance is dynamic right? But does anyone know for sure he didn't just mean the BABY is dynamically generated? Like his eye colour would change or his skin colour or he would have a miniature version of his dad's 'cute' nose?

I meant that the player puts effort into creating both the protagonist and their spouse. Good point about the baby.

I think that the son and spouse do exist, at least at one point. I'd be a bit disappointed to find out that they died at the beginning of the game.

Cyborg-> Sure, we could become one in FO3 and your appearance was completely unchanged

Android-> Could be cool, don't really mind either way

Family vs Android ?-> Android without a doubt

I think your forgetting that some vaults where designed to be control groups so this could be a pure vault that where everyone was meant to live?

Also we have not seen what happened when entering or inside the vault yet so your spouse and child could die in there which is may be why we don't see the PC go "Maybe Nora and Shaun survived!"

Also the vaults where for "Social experiments" mainly so in that regard the experiment of what happens if you freeze people for 200 years then release them into a completely different would does meet your needs for a vault tech experiment.

This reminds me of the Android theory I read the other day, honestly I think clones are more likely.

Exactly why I think clones more likely, there is evidence to show Vault-Tech was working on cloning pre-bombs but everything on the commonwealths androids as far as I can see suggest them being made post-apocalypses

Well that could simply be because he is a robot without any emotions and would probably not be programmed to have that level of consideration???

hes also been active for 200 years you can even ask "are you okay?" which is also highlighted yellow which likely means hes a bit "off" and we can fix him.i can see the child surviving and the spouse being dead and we also get frozen, i wouldnt mind being a android but i dont see how that work.

Hadn't considered the thought he'd be broken, this makes me think of HK47 in SW:KOTOR, the more you repaired him the more his memories came back, Codsworth may offer a similar situation, as repair skills improve the more he does and the more he can remember and the more you can learn about what happened perhaps?

Interestingly, the clone machine just happened to be in that Vault, it wasn't the main experiment.

I did not know that, or had forgotten that, (as I probably read it at some point as I spent days scouring every terminal and holotape in FO3) but my point still stands, the cloning technology existed but nothing confirms androids pre-war time
