If there is an android romance how would you react?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:57 pm

I'm curious how you would feel in this scenario:

If there is an android companion which was really awesome, and which you could also fall in love with and romance; how would your character (or you - if you like to project yourself unto your character) feel about it if you:

A ) Discovered that the companion was an android, but was him/herself unaware of it.
B ) Discovered that the companion was an android, and he/she knew they were - but kept it from you in fear of rejection.

Moral and philosophical themes like this is one of the things I really loved with the movie Blade runner and the human-looking android - human relation "setting" overall. I love how this theme explores the human condition. So I am really, really curious how you people would react if something like this happened.

Edit: Romance is not confirmed in F4, androids are. So this is mostly based on speculation. Still - I think this is a very interesting topic to touch on regardless of if its implemented or not.

Depends? Is she going to leave her [censored] in the bathroom sink?

Also, Bladerunner (while super cool) loses a lot of the nuance's of PKD's short story (also, Ridley Scott can be a bit hacky at times). I would suggest to anyone to take a look at it.

If Harkness is any indication androids are capable of the same thoughts, feelings and neuroses that we are so I'd see little reason to treat them differently.

We're all machines with wires running through flesh. If androids are intelligent, self-aware and capable of human affections, I don't see a reason to treat them differently than humans. It would certainly be an interesting situation, though. Mechanical companions are common in games, but discovering this only after dozens of hours spent traveling together? Might be a very memorable story.

Reminds me of The Outer Limits episode called Valerie 23. Anyone ever see that? It's on Youtube, worth a watch.

Personally I wouldn't know how I'd react until I was in the situation, but It wouldn't feel right. I do expect there to be an android companion though.

Well, as an android I would feel offended and discriminated against if this wasn't included in the game.

Eh, a romance with an android? It could be interesting, but it would have to be done well (arguably, even better than a regular romance would need) in order to be different from all the other 'falling in love with an android/robot' stories that have been floating around for decades.

Something that could be really fun, if done for laughs, would be a romance with an AI enabled war machine, like a vertibird or robo-scorpion :D. Oh the frustration of a romance that could never be consummated! The bewilderment ("But what is the point of six?!") The problem of dealing with a jealous, bullet-proof, air-to-ground missile toting 'lover' ("You played chess with him! That was OUR special thing!!!")

I wouldn't give a damn cause I'm not a 12 years old kid anymore and I have a personal life that include real people.

To be honest, I just wouldn't care. We've all got secrets, and there are things about ourselves we don't even realize until someone points them out for us. So I personally wouldn't care if he/she is an android or not, what I do care about, is his/her actions.

This is re-chewing aspects of the Blade Runner plot; they can't out do Blade Runner, so I would honestly hope that they don't attempt to. Just about anything they can depict on the subject will trace back to BR, and fall short of it (even if technically equal to it). It'd be like recycling the plot of Tron.

If there was any type of romance I would be dissapointed.Let Bioware corner the "Dating sim with save the world minigame" market.

If it is in keep it at the Skyrim "Wear Claddagh ring get hitched" level or let mods deal with it.

If it can independently think, has feelings and is self-aware it's a person.

As for romance why not as long as it's not forced and developing an emotional attachment ends up being well written.

Please Assume the Position

My Reaction. :ahhh:

I actually wouldn't have a problem with this, could have it be about emotion and how andorids/robots can't feel emotion.
