Is there any possibility of an MDK3?

Post » Mon Jul 06, 2009 12:32 am

I tried to ask Bioware on their forum page, but I heard no reply. I had to gain information from other people looking for the same answer as I was. There's a lot of people who want an MDK3. These are my views as to how this should happen.

But first, before I babble on and on about my views of MDK3, I must anolyze MDK2. Why was it so great? What made us like it so much? What made it so different from all the other games.

The answers are; It was great because you got to play in more than one format, instead of just playing the same thing and character the whole game. We loved it because, the level design was fantastic, easy controls, humor, great gameplay, great bosses, voice actors, items, graphics, music, artwork, sound effects, story, (ahem) EASTER EGGs, and even loading screens. Everybody loved the loading screens, right?

MDK3 must have all these things, especially easter eggs.

Okay, now lets get down to business.
Title: The title might not have to be MDK3. Why? Because some people who might not have played MDK OR MDK2 might want to play MDK3. If you want to be automatically introduced into the franchise without playing MDK1 and 2, you wouldn't feel compelled if it was called someting like MDK: Resurected. (yes, I know it sounds stupid). The point i'm trying to get across is that it would probably be something like MDK (semicolon), and then a word instead of a number.

Playable characters: (obviously) Max, Doctor, and Kurt. But should there be new playable characters, like one of the Doc's atomic robot zombie men, or Bad Max, or CHUCKLEBERRY FINN? or Hyde without having to use plutonium?

Systems: it has to come out for the PC and Mac obviously, and I want it to come out on PS3. and since the new MDK2 HD is coming out for the Wii, i guess it would have to come out for the Wii, too. PSP? Possibly?

Publisher: gamesas (obviously), and if Bioware isn't up to it, then also Beamdog. And I think that the people who made the Vanquish videogame could do a pretty good job with it too. If all their games weren't first person, than Valve could help too, they're good at the quick-save feature. Unreal technology has made a LOT of games lately.

Soundtrack maker: (I hope all these people) Jesper Kyd, Albert Olsen, Raymond Watts, and maybe because he did MDK1, Tommy Tallarico could help.

Voice Actors?: I hope all the originals.

What happens when you finish the game, though, there's nothing left to do. That's why I think it should have an online feature, where you fight other teams as a team playing as the characters from the game. Kind of like slayer on Halo, or Team Fortress 2, (because you never get tired of fighting people online). This way people would never stop playing the game.

One thing that MDK3 would REALLY need is enough people to buy it. I saw an online petition for Bioware/gamesas to make MDK3, and about 700 people signed it. Halo Reach sold 28,341,200 copies of the game. We need around that amount of people to buy MDK2 HD for PC and Wii, if we want their to be a snowball's chance for there to be an MDK3.

The game has to be in 3rd person with an auto-aim feature and without a reticle for where you shoot, just like MDK2. It should probably be rated T for Teen.

I think there is a (slight) possibility of another MDK game, but it doesn't get as much fan support or interest as some of our other games. We just don't have a lot of people clamoring for the game.

I think BioWare is pretty much out of the picture since they're now owned by Electronic Arts so having them develop it would be pretty difficult.

I wouldn't mind Planet Moon Studios doing a new game either, they're made up of a lot of ex Shiny people and have developed some pretty cool games since then too.

Kind of funny, Planet Moon is ex MDK and Beamdog is ex MDK 2, unless they work together, fans of the series probably won't be "fully" pleased.

If gamesas, BioWare, Beamdog or Planet Moon will announce MDK 3, it will be the best news in my life. I love both parts of MDK, I even created a fansite dedicated to MDK & MDK2, I think it would be wonderful news not only for me. Among other things, so I'm going to buy MDK 2 HD, because I have little hope of MDK 3. Image

It's always been my impression that after a great start with "Giants" Planet Moon went constantly downhill, both in quality and scale of their projects. In past years they sank so low that they had to do casual crap for the Wii like "Smarty Pants" or "Battle of the Bands". Also Bob Stevenson went to ngmoco:) a while ago, who I think was the creative mind behind MDK.

To add another possible MDK 3 developer to the list: Double Helix (Ex-Shiny)

Eh, the game development market became such that you had to take what ever job you could get. After Burner Falcon wasn't bad, I've heard pretty good things about Drawn to Life as well.

I think a majority of Double Helix is composed of The Collective than Shiny.

The original DS game probably. Planet Moons Wii version has a Metascore of 58.
