is there anything that would make you not play Skyrim?

Post » Thu Dec 02, 2010 4:20 am

Yes, but it's a pretty short list, and most have already been destroyed by the GI article and developer comments:

1) Non-open world, linear path towards an ending
2) Restrictive, class-based character progression
3) Ugly graphics and art style
4) Ugly character animation (worse than Oblivion's)
5) Lack of Creation Kit release

Of those, only #4 remains to be proven false, and at this point seems extremely unlikely. I'm probably going to love Skyrim.

Gotta love these pure hype-machine threads. :wink: I don't personally see how anything could stop me from playing Skyrim, but I guess any number of things could occur that would [temporarily] stop me.

If attributes are out, I'm out.

Elder Scrolls without attributes is like Fallout without S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

If the game focuses primarily on graphics than actual gameplay which results in a hallow and empty game. AKA Sims 3.

at least you had a pc version from my understanding mods made oblivion even better with the right ones and in reference to morrowind you playing for months...I played for years heck I'd play one of my 4 copies of goty right now if I could but my original xbox died sadface. I take offense to people who would refuse to play or try to get into the game elder scrolls demand 1 full playthrough before it can be judged my opinion but with such a grand scale game only true players of rpgs can come to call TES games home away from all the crap games out today.

Place said game in ur 360 it will run i didn't play morrowind till after ob via my 360

Dragons out number everything else.
No way to turn the music off while keeping all other sounds on. The soundtracks in Morrowind and Oblivion were not that great(Inb4flame), but being able to turn it off, while keeping the ambient sounds was great. But if anything, the INI file would most likely be able to accomplish that.
Always online DRM
Any DRM thats overly intrusive, as Steamworks is. A simple disc check doesn't hurt the honest gamers that much. And before the Steam users flame me, I like steam, when I decide to buy the game off it, And not in stores.

being able to not adjust brightness.....

I understand being able to adjust gamma (to account for ambient light in your gaming room and your monitor's specifications) and colour temperature (again, to adjust for the ambient light) of the game, but why brightness? Any newer game should have at least basic auto-adjustment of brightness and saturation depending on the amount of light in the scene anyway ...

I hope that I can match the hardware requirements to be able to play it. I don't want to buy a whole new PC just for one game. I decided to wait for the technical specs before I go to buy a new graphics board. That is the only thing I need since I think a Geforce 8800 GT isn't going to work so well with Skyrim.

The only thing I can think of would be real world distractions. I'm definitely buying it, I just don't think I'll be able to play it as much I'd like due to work/college/girlfriend/etc.

If they turned it into an action/adventure game like Fable 3...

god... that game was awesome when it was an RPG...

Well, I guess I could die, but I'm not expecting that so I'm pretty sure I will be playing this game come 11/11/11.

Well, if when more information is revealed it turns out to be something I don't like at all I wouldn't buy the game, but that is very unlikely.

I dunno, maybe if they announced something ridiculous like it was actually developed by Bioware or something. Outside of something completely unrealistic like that? No, nothing.

If the game turns out to be happy land, like TESIV.

I would hesitate to buy it if Bethesda added relationships to the game. sixuality only belittles the experience in my mind. Oblivion is my favorite game of all time and Skyrim is my most anticipated game since then. So, it's saying a lot that I would consider passing based on this. If they do put it in there, I hope they at least provide some type of setting to disable it. I do enjoy letting my son play Oblivion but do not want him to learn about six from Skyrim.

Loss of TES atmosphere.(In case it happens) Not stop from playing,but reduce the time I spend to it to any other game...
Morrowind = 1 =>
Oblivion = 1/3
Any other game = 1/20?

Several possible reasons:

(1) the only playable character is a large purple guar, who sings an annoying song throughout the game.

(2) skills have no in-game effect other than to trigger perks.

(3) it requires online access to play (my game PC does not have internet access).

(4) a general concensus among the posters here is that Skyrim is even more of an FPS, and less of an RPG, than OB was.
