Is There Anyway To Duplicate A Quest Entry?

Post » Mon May 09, 2011 7:45 pm

Basically what I want to do is duplicate the radio stations in the game and strip out the music so I can have one station with the talk and the music and one with just the talk. Now, in order to do this I need two copies of the same station but recreating the station from the ground up is something I would like to avoid doing if at all possible. The relevent G.E.C.K. entry which controls the music is a quest so if I can find a way to make a duplicate of the quest all I would have to do is delete the music entry and be done with it. But that's the stumbling block I can't seem to figure out. Any ideas?

Highlight the quest in the Object Window. Click on the Object ID once more, rename it, and hit enter. A new window will appear asking if you want to make a new form, click yes.

Mind you, double clicking on the quest to bring up that quest's window and renaming the Object ID from there will simply rename the quest, without asking if you want to create a new form when you hit Ok.

I tried this out on several quests and the new entry doesn't contain all the information of the original. In particular it doesn't copy over the Radio tab which is what I need.

It is not possible because a new quest also gets new dialogue. Radio is mainly made as dialogue in Geck. I don't think there is any way to accomplish this idea as quest without making a complete new one and new soundfiles.

Another idea to reach this goal would be to add a condition on the the textparts of the original quest and to switch the talking of another way (activator or similar thing) with the help of this condition. It's only a idea I haven't looked yet if this will work.

Even if you could copy the quest, and even if you exported the dialogue from the original then imported it to the new, it still wouldn't work. The reason for this is that the Geck automatically assigns a a path and file name to any audio files used in dialogue topic infos. Basically, you must create dummy files using the geck's record feature in the audio section - which you get to by editing an info. And then overwriting that dummy file with your own music file. There is a great article on the Nexus that describes http://www.fallout3nexus.com/articles/article.php?id=41.
