If there are glitches, will you exploit them?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:24 am

I only ever exploited a glitch once in oblivion, the duplicate Item glitch on a Transcendent Sigil stone with Fortify Magicka 50 on it.

This was because It took me 14 tries of saving and reloading before I got one.

I didn't want have to scour 6 more plains of Oblivion, and reset everytime I didn't get the right one. By that point, the oblivion realms were to tedious and I hated them.

No. I don't understand the point. Even you saying that you only exploited the glitch because you didn't want to save and reload if you didn't get what you wanted... I'd consider saving and reloading to be equally as pointless. I like to play a game for fun, and part of that is the challenge of not being able to get exactly every item I could possibly want - it's supposed to be difficult. If I wanted to cheat I'd turn on no clip and god mode and be bored with the game after an hour.

No when i first got Oblivion, which was my first ever RPG, i used the duplicate glitch. Then afterwards when i became a more hardcoe gamer lol, i stopped using it. I have a funny feeling there won't be many or any of these types of glitches in Skyrim.

As far as it comes to saving and reloading to get an item I want, yes, I did in Oblivion.
Because of the horrid randomising factor it was nigh impossible to play the game the way I wanted without that kind of 'cheating'
Im not going to go through all the trouble for a sigil stone that gives water walking, or light.

Never. If I find a glitch I avoid using it again. Also I never use things that I consider bad for gameplay (for example Skeleton Key in Oblivion).

I hate to say it but I'm a glitch junkie (metaphorically(sp??))... Mostly just with dupe glitch's, I dun go for the whole 'go through walls' or 'get to a spam point/out of map' ones...

BUT, I do usually do a playthrough where I use no glitch's/cheats... I did both with & without glitch's on OB and will probs do the same with this if it has glitch's... I will, though, try not to...

No, the game is probably easy enough as it is, I don't want to make it even easier by cheating.

Thats what I'm talking about, I was fed up with Oblivion gates after the third one. No way am I going to go through 25 more just to get what I want.

I probably would have gone through more gates, and not have used the glitch, if we got to choose what sigil stone we wanted, but I'm not going to waste time on it if its not fun.

Its no different from Daggerfall, where you reloaded if a questgiver gave you a random quest you didnt feel like doing, because it would too easily kill you, or because it involved a lengthy process while you really just wanted a dungeon delving one.
I would not categorise that as cheating per se, its more making use of game mechanics.
Its meta-gaming.

normally i do a few playthroughs (more or less 3 or 4) before resorting to exploits, i just use them to see how much i can get away with and have some fun with it.

this issue is a two way road, some people don't use them because they like the challenge and some people use them because they find them fun, the methods might contradict each other but the end result is still the same....having fun with the game.

I normally don't use glitches, and would be in the first catagory.

I wouldn't have used the glitch in OB, if magicka wasn't as much of a problem. I would run out after three spells, and I think an arch-mage should be able to do more than that.

But I wasn't having fun, and getting killed alot because I would run out of magicka after three attacks (350 max for my breton mage with the apprentice sign) and if there was more than one enemy, I was done for.

I needed a way to increase my magicka, so I would get sigil stones, but going through 25 Oblivion gates would not be fun (I got bored after the first 3), and I wanted the game to be fun, so I used the glitch.

And I only used it once for that, never again. I think I was being perfectly reasonable.

Glitches like duplication I would never exploit. Unbalanced game maechanics on the other hand serve as a catch 22 situation, since you want to play fair so you avoid exploiting them, but not only does it feel like you're not playing your character to the best of your potential, as is the point of the games, but also limits your options for gameplay to make less freedom, but then if you do exploit them it feels cheap and unfair that you can do whatever it is, and you feel it should be harder.

That's when you lower the difficulty a wee bit.

The ring of vipereye became permanent when I went to jail, got me a boost in agility and magic resistance, wasn't my fault, didn't know about it, once I sussed what had happened, rp'ed it had bitten me ( Viperman! ) and carried on regardless. Would never exploit one willingly though.

When I discovered the console commands I used them to raise all my skills. Which resulted in my character running twice as fast as any horse, needless to say: it kinda broke the game. This time I'm on Ps3 so, no I i'll do it 100% legit.

In a huge game like this there's almost some glitches to go around. If i get to choose to abuse a glitch then the answer will always be no. I don't really care if there are glitches in the game, unles they're game changing/ending glitches that you can't do anything about. But if that's the case i'm sure they'll give us some updates to fix the game soon anyway.

I would not glitch on my first serious playthrough but maybe on subsequent characters where I am just messing around. Never ever play in god mode or something which makes the game boring
