There are only 748 steps to High Hrothgar. Yeah, I counted.

I demand a recount!

If you live in Florida....we might be here a while.

I think lying about a product matters greatly.

I agree with that notion in general, but in this case, it doesn't really affect me or my ability to enjoy the game in any noticeable way. 7,000 steps to High Hrothgar? I just imagine that when they say 7,000 steps, they mean for if the province of Skyrim were larger than the size of port city.

Ha ha, it's all a ruse so people can brag to the people back home after their pilgrimage. In reality, you walk a few, then a tour bus takes you the rest of the way, stopping at the gift shop so you can get your "I climbed the 7000 steps" t-shirt and have your picture taken next to the marker.

Don't forget to pick up Greybeard plushies for the kids.

You just made my day.

Sadly, I fully believe that a sizable number of players would pay $5 for that :sadvaultboy:

I believe it's somewhere on the coast of southern Akavir. They get harsh winds and the occasional maormer raid.

Whaaaaaa? I am marching over to my xbox right now, taking out the disc, and breaking it into 7,000 pieces! This is unexcusable! What in Oblivion kind of bull [censored] is this?

There are not 7000 steps, there would not be room, and the mountain is NOT 3500 feet as some proposed by calculating the step height and number, as already posted, it's a story exaggeration, 7000 sounds much more awesome than a measly 700.

The first thing i did when i got that questline was to actually count the steps, you're off a couple of steps btw, (i might be aswell).
But i uninstalled the game afterwards...I hate bethesda for lying.

Perhaps it's counted to the top of the mountain and not to the greybeards ;)

And they have 6000 invisible steps, which count towards 'your journey to the starting point' :whistling:

Have any of you ACTUALLY counted the steps? As in all steps, not just one foot in front of the other.

I doubt it's even possible to properly count them. It looks like a lot of them are under the soil or snow or even broken and withered ect. It seems there were seventhousand steps originally when the stairs had been built and we only get to see the remains.

Todd Howard:

“I have been promised 7,000 steps, and I am going to count them. Our world artists are amazing. We have just an amazing team, and they put so much detail in the world, so they didn’t blink when I said ‘it MUST HAVE 7,000 steps. When you look at all the stuff we have in the world, 7,000 steps obviously is not that hard.”

Todd lied?

I always wondered is it 7000 steps has in stair steps or just walking/running steps? =<

Maybe over the years the trolls stole some of the steps to make huts and stuff. ;)

Once there were 7000 steps, then Paarthurnax stole most of them and cut the mountain top off to build his wall.

Todd lied?

Every time I read the world "lie" on this forum, I shudder. I swear, from reading things like this here, you would think that today's society is the most literal and altruistic to ever have been on the planet Earth. You'd think that untruths are so rare and abhorred that they just don;t happen, and the hard-line "liar liar" crew is outing a Monster. People on this forum are so quick to label anything posted by a dev that turns out to not be literally so a "lie", and in fact, there are not 7,000 steps present.

But a "lie"? What is a "lie"? Do you even know what a "lie" is? Most people on this forum obviously don't, judging from your question and hundreds of other posts. A statement with the intent to deceive. That's a lie.

So ask yourself: is Todd Howard so incredibly and abysmally flaming STOOPID to think that you, or anyone else for that matter, would NEVER actually count the steps, so he lied about it to impress us, or was he just wrong?

Think hard.

Not surprising really. The journey to High Hrothgar was very underwhelming...
