Even putting aside the fact that no-one with a life should care about whether or not there are 7000 steps, nothing Todd stated in the statement quoted in the OP could be reasonably construed as a promise that 7000 steps would be included in the game. All he says in that passage is that someone promised him 7000 steps, that he'd count them, and that 7000 steps shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

Does each stone slab count as a step? Or can we have like 3 steps in one step and to walk all 7000 you have to go from left to right, up, right to left, up etc...

admittedly it isn't a big deal but gosh darned it we were promised 7000 steps! Can't really fathom why they woudn't put them in either, the ones they've got are way to big, would make sense to have a lot more smaller steps instead of a few big ones. I can only assume that having that many steps on the mountain led to some sort of engine crash, resulting in them being cut, but it makes me sad.

There aren't 7000 steps even if you count the ones laying next to each other. This is sort of of important since Todd said "Yes there really are literally 7000 steps" which is yknow, lying? The idea of a mountain with 7000 steps is awesome. I was expecting it to take days to get up there. I was expecting inns stuck on the side of the mountain, catering to pilgrims. This is kinda a big letdown, that all HH amounted to be, was a slightly bigger than the rest of them-mountain.

There also isn't procedural snow, and a few other features I forgot were promised and never materialized. This happens with every single Bethesda game now that I think about it. It's not really that huge of a deal, I just wish devs wouldn't promise stuff, not deliver them and then never address the fact that they didn't come up with the goods.

Who knows, there could have been 7,000 steps at some point but after playtesting they found that it made scaling the mountain far too long and drawn out, so reduced it for gameplay's sake?

Just sayin'

Every time I read the world "lie" on this forum, I shudder. I swear, from reading things like this here, you would think that today's society is the most literal and altruistic to ever have been on the planet Earth. You'd think that untruths are so rare and abhorred that they just don;t happen, and the hard-line "liar liar" crew is outing a Monster. People on this forum are so quick to label anything posted by a dev that turns out to not be literally so a "lie", and in fact, there are not 7,000 steps present.

But a "lie"? What is a "lie"? Do you even know what a "lie" is? Most people on this forum obviously don't, judging from your question and hundreds of other posts. A statement with the intent to deceive. That's a lie.

So ask yourself: is Todd Howard so incredibly and abysmally flaming STOOPID to think that you, or anyone else for that matter, would NEVER actually count the steps, so he lied about it to impress us, or was he just wrong?

Think hard.

lied, definitly lied. not that i give a [censored] about the [censored] steps, but yeah. easily a lie. if the oblivion launch didnt teach us bethesda will lie to your face you will never learn. they will say anythign and everything for the sake of hype knowing full well its not true. todd was asked point blank if there was a LEGIT 7,000 steps. there arent even 1,000. you think he just couldnt tell or he just a bad count? c'mon, the guy isnt stupid. its called the hype machine, and bethesda are suuuuuuuuuuuper ok with lieing in hype mode.

I agree. Of all the things that were said to be going in and ended up cut, this is what bothers people the most?

If I were to visit tamriel, the first thing I'd do is visiting High Hrothgar. The real one, with Its 7000 steps. That woudl be [censored] awesome.

Also, with 7000 steps and the density of those you find in the game, the mountain would probably be ridiculously huge, like 8 or 9 kilometers tall. FROM IVARSTEAD. Which is alredy arround a kilometer over sea's level.

This is a good point, but it would have been far easier to stomach if Todd had said it was the 1000 step mountain

Totally agree there. The game is really good, but the marketing was as good at the very least.

Math education in Skyrim not great.

Ivarstead is already at a pretty high altitude. Would be tough to then go 7000 steps. 926 isn't too shoddy. It's still about 66 floors, although that's assuming they all go up. Which they don't.

We are all different right? So we think different things has a different meaning? Why wouldn't ppl then be upset about this?
See the quote below.

I think lying about a product matters greatly.

This happens with every single Bethesda game now that I think about it. It's not really that huge of a deal, I just wish devs wouldn't promise stuff, not deliver them and then never address the fact that they didn't come up with the goods.

Not only Bethesda, most developers if not all developers do this. Why?
Because they can, gamers are just happy to have something to do, so we accept faulty products and [censored] coding.
Actually game developers are the only company allowed to release a faulty product. Most would never allow it from phone companies, electric companies or any other product we spend our money on.

However, lets be true about stuff. It's not only this one thing, we react cause it's all those hundered things.
