INT was also listed to effect "mental acuity" whatever that means in-game.

Right? Removing the attributes in TES was one thing, but ALL of the skills in Fallout? How the [censored] did you even get to that?
I'm truly curious as to how that is going to work.
I didn't see any, it's a double edge sword. On the one hand we won't have JOATS due to too many skill points at level up, on the other we have less choice when developing our characters.
I need more info but it's a double edge sword from my early impressions.

Seems like http://i.4cdn.org/v/1434341819359.jpg, as some of you have pointed out, I wonder how this will work in relation to the SPECIAL stats, and the leveling-up screen.
that really wouldn't be practical though, it would eliminate gradual progression of character and replace it with sudden huge change in a characters competency not to mention choosing only one perk per level? I could not imagine trying to balance out several aspects such as improving gun proficiency and lock picking and other game play elements in the form of perks one at a time. even if we got a perk each level it would take way to long to manage your characters competencies.
Also maybe that is a perk, since perks had ranks.
I dunno... I like looking at a skill list as much as anyone; it's fun to plan and customize them and all, but if they are dropped it won't be the end of the world. I imagine Beth has just figured out a way of letting us be better at some things by some other method.
Skill magazines are still in, right? Didn't we see them in the trailer? We're presumably still picking locks and shooting, so there must be a mechanic somewhere. I have a feeling it will be something like Skyrim's system, Perk trees or something like that; maybe at level-up we'll get points to put in Perks that include what we consider the basic skill set.
Presumably your aim and how often you fire is dictated by Perception, Agility, and perks. Explosives too? And luck is crit. If you don't use VATS, you have absolutely no reason to increase those, or a highly diminished reason to do so, meaning min-max could get insanely stupid.
Melee and Unarmed are strength-based.
Speech and Barter are effectively merged into the "charisma skill."
Repair, Science and Medicine presumably are now all merged into the "intelligence skill."
Lord knows where Lockpick is.
Agility is sneak.
Survival and any skill-based crafting is dead in the water.
It all sounds very messy, because for example if I make a melee character with no interest in VATS, I have every motivation to max out Strength, Endurance and Luck while Agility and Perception are legit near worthless, and Int and Charisma are of questionable importance.
So I guess all we have is levels and perks? And skills based on ranks? I was afraid that they was going to do like in Skyrim and remove stuff that they think is too "complicated" for the average player. But this will also remove some of the soul that is Fallout, IMO.
Edit: I will still get it and love it, just like I did with Skyrim. Still, would have been nice to keep the skills and attributes.
Well, science is a skill from previous Fallout titles. I don't think they've been removed. They may just work a bit differently now. Also, during the interview, Todd said he didn't want to reveal too much.
Strength- It's the same they even mention it increase melee weapon damage.
Perception- The Same as before
Endurance- is the same but now we can sprint
Charisma-Same
Intelligence- No longer effect Energy Weapons at least it's not mentioned.
Agility- Same but if I remember it effect normal guns in the past.
Luck- Same
Seems like skills are there but changed, perhaps as some suggested to a 1-10 scale.
Indeed, it could be that passing a certain milestone in your skill (science in this case) means you've reached a certain rank.
It's also probably a little too early really to be making concrete statements on what's gone and what remains.
That's not "there" in my opinion. There's ways skills can measure a character that SPECIAL or Perks cannot.
Bah, people were predicting that attributes were gone from Skyrim after the first Skyrim preview, but we got attributes. Oh, wait ....
Can anyone confirm whether or not the "Science" icon is anywhere in that perk poster?
I described what have been the opinion that started with Skyrim. No that everyone else is not smart enough to understand. When everyone was screaming about it being "dumbed down". Personally I did not care and think it's fine. As to Fallout, I have played since Fallout 1 and I'm used to the SPECIAL system and having skills, of course I'm gonna miss it. But in the end I won't care just like I did not when I played Skyrim because everything else looks like it's gonna be great.
