Is there a better way to Apply Poisons?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:21 pm

I want to like Alchemy, I really do.
I think making Poisons and such is AWESOME....but the method of applying them is honestly a HUGE PITA.

I realize you can "hotkey" poisons and such, but then you have poisons of different types/strengths and such. Is there a mod....or a quick key menu that would bring these up for easy application?

Thanks

Nope. on PC it's "i" for inventory, then click on potions, then click on the potion you want. Otherwise you favorite and/or hot key the desired item. That's as good as it gets.

Not sure about possible mods. I guess you'll have to check out the nexus.

One thing that made it easier was the Categorized Favorites mod. Other than that, hotkeying is the only quick way. There's also a perk in the alchemy tree that lets poison apply to more hits, but you still have to re-apply a lot. This is one reason I do mass potion making sessions and pick one or two poisons that are sort of all-purpose.

What would be awesome is if there was a weapon enchantment where once you applied a poison, it never went away but instead used up an amount of weapon charge commensurate with the cost of the poison (balanced so that Paralysis poisons ran the charge out VERY fast). Apply a different poison to the weapon, and get that poisons effect / charge cost.
Basically, the enchantment would mimic the effect of the most recently applied poison (and the applied poison would itself have no effect).

It makes sense that we would have to apply a poison each time we wanted the effects. I mean, would you want to [censored] your finger on a poisoned blade or arrow that is just sitting in your inventory?

However, to me, poisons are really for Assassins, not Melee fighters or even Archers. To that end, it is applied to a dagger to assure a one hit or two hit kill (barring those certain perks). So, the way I would use Poisons applying them once per use before each works for me.

Agreed but on a slightly different note I would like to the bottles last longer than using them once. May three or four times, it seems that you don't get much poison from your poisons.

That makes sense, why does an entire bottle get used for on application? I really miss poisoned apples  I had soOOoo muuUUcch fun with them in Oblivion, I would even stay in that area to watch them eat the apple, laughing the whole time

Being able to poison food and give it an NPC would be cool. Whether it is any food or apples or whatever.

I hotkey my most used poisons on my archers (slow, lingering damage health / magicka), and I use lingering damage health as my damaging poison because it works over time and hence I don't have to constantly reapply instant damage poisons which would be tedious and expensive. What I do really hate is having that pop up window asking for confirmation. Anyone know if it's possible to mod that out?

There is a perk on the alchemy tree that allows poisons to be effective for two hits. And don't forget the pickpocket perk that allows you to 'reverse pickpocket' a poison into someone's inventory, forcing them to consume it. (an interesting way to deal with Nazeem, or another hated NPC, perhaps - drop a frenzy potion into his pocket, watch him freak out and let the guards deal with him).
