there doesn't appear to be many Armour slots.

Pete Hines already said on twitter a couple weeks ago that TES will not have fallout's armor system because what works in Fallout doesn't necessarily mean it will work in TES. He said there will be "multiple" armor slots so it will either be like Oblivion (which is fine with me) or it will probably add back in separate pauldrons but not the other layers, but who knows, if they keep you from enchanting the other layers then it will be good with me, otherwise I say just leave it will pauldrons being added back into the game.

not odd boots, but morrowind/arena/daggerfall had how many slots?

moar is better. oblivions was limited. oh, and bethesda havent shown us any images that make it apear that we have more slots than fallout

More is only better until it becomes redundant and more of a micromanagement for what armor has the best stats. Plus, do we REALLY need more armor options that we can rig with cameleon?

My only complaint about Oblivions slots was there wasn't enough extra slots for modders to play with. If we wanted goggles and didn't want to go bald, we had to set them to use the tale slot

I think they should go back to Morrowinds left hand, right hand and left leg, right leg ect

The Morrowind armour was supurb. They should definitely bring some of that stuff back, like being able to wear clothes under your armour.

How is boots greaves cuirass gloves helmet pitiful. If we add one more slot how does that make such a difference? Or are people still demanding the ability to wear odd boots again.

Simple. We have 150% more choice if they include separate pauldrons. Even more if they include separate gloves. (Dare I dream for left and right boots?)
And isn't the very sould of TES choice?

As has been stated in this thread Pete Hines has already stated there will be "multiple" armor slots. He didn't specify how many, but due to the fact we have screenshots of a a dude wearing only ONE pauldron that leads me to believe at the very least they will be separate from the cuirass again.

all I want is:

1- shirt.
2- pants/skirt (skirt over boots and leg armor)
3- belt
4- cloak
5- amulet
6- ring
7- ring
8- gloves/gauntlets.
9- boots/greaves
10- body armor
11- helmet/hat
12- hand 1
13- hand 2
14- robe

sure I would love separate gloves and pauldrons but it ain't gonna happen :sadvaultboy:

While I am all for more armour slots for maximum customization I cant say it is really that big a deal for me, however it would be nice if Bethesda threw the modders a bone and added in a few more equipment slots even if they arent used in the vanilla game just so that when modders go to create unique equipable items they dont have to put them in the amulet or tail slot.

Pete said on twitter than they are making an elder scrolls game NOT a fallout game so don't expect fallout style armor slots. He said this in response to someone who asked if there would only be two armor slots.

I agree the "sixification" of armor isn't realistic. But neither are dragons. I usually play as a female character and I like to feel like a female character (ha,ha.) Furthermore, that would suggest males are superior to females if the male shape reigns. DO YOU REALLY THING BETH WANTS TO DEAL WITH THAT KINDA THING?

To the OP, you do r ealize that it's the concept artist's duty to draw armor to be as realistic as possible - as a uniform, seamless set. That's what it's supposed to look like within the context of the real "world" anyways. It gets chopped up for the game alone, so for all we know we could have even more pieces than Morrowind (unlikely) and they've just come up with a really good way to make the pieces on the mesh flow.

Anyway, I think it'll be a mixture of Morrowind and Oblivion's systems. Some images in Gameinformer imply pauldrons can be switched, but I don't see much logic in having alternate pauldrons if gloves are a single item. And I highly doubt we'd be fortunate enough to get separate gloves and pauldrons. Really, I care more about wearing clothing over/under armor than anything else.

Although I'm a "slot guy" I see plenty enough problems designing armor in pieces that would work well with all other pieces. I.e. padded leather pauldrons would not be possible to fit onto a closed steel plate armor, where pauldrons are part of the whole armor. So I have no problems with heavier armor being both full once piece set and/or a upper/lower piece set with other parts from the same set (if you have a mithril chain, you have to use mithril pauldrons as other may not "fit" the armor). Maybe only the lighter more flexible armor allows more customization, how knows. We all scream Morrowind this and Morrowind that (and I'm sure it's mostly for the enchantment "exploit"), but fact is (for me anyways) that "armor sets" like I've seen in NV pictures look a lot better than Morrowind. So despite being a "slot guy", I'd rather have perfect "armor sets" than a generic part armor with lots of clipping and placement issues. Padded leather pauldrons or gauntlets can never look good on a closed steel plate armor, and they may not even mount on the same position.

we havent seen anyone with a glass naginata, dwemer helmet, orcish pauldrons, daedric greaves, imperial steel skirt, common shirt, netch boots, adamantire right glove and bonemould left, clan volkharim poncho thing and an ebony body piece. along with lots of bling?

Because that probably looks pretty weird for a screenshot. :P

i also dont see why men cant wear dresses. (when it makes sense i am fine, the golden saints and dark seducers worked perfectly well skimpy. especialy since A: it didnt change randomly in the vanila game because you couldent pick it up, and B its sheogoraths realm, they are daedra, its not meant to make sense

Actually A: It did magically conform to gender, there was a quest which gave one or the other as a reward and that suit behaved just like all the other armor in the game- male version if your character was male, female version if character was female.

The, maybe you should wait till knowing actual facts. Not just speculation.

About the armor "magically changed"... It has always changed. I suposse that a Bosmer wouldn't be able to wear an armor from a Nord. Where is the different if they do the same between males and females?

There might be a character in game named Jack the Inquisitor.
He spreads ideas and rumors about things he doesn't know the full story on. And he always wants people to participate in his numerous interviews and lists statistics on every possible thing.

There better be layered and plenty of armour slots. At least as much as Oblivion but that would be sad.

And yes.

Why is everyone denouncing other's concern about this? No we haven't seen much that directly implies less armour slots, however looking at the general trends, we saw a downgrade in the armour system in Oblivion so I don't think it's that unrealistic to expect even more simplification in Skyrim. Though I sincerely hope Bethesda does at least one thing right with this game by adding individual pauldrons and gloves.

looking at stuff, i have the feeling this game will either run on fallout's body and helmet. or the same pitiful amount oblivion had. absolutely no pauldrons :sadvaultboy:
never mind those skirts and ponchos (we might be able to get shirts under armour, because i haven't seen any evidence against that yet)
evidence (from screenshots)

secondly- why must armours be sixified? the thing that made tes different from all of the other generic fantasy games was that it had a sense of semi realism

Evidence? you have none.

Did you completely skip Oblivion?????? There was lots of cuirasses and helmets magically changing shape to accommodate different genders and bodies.

Why do I even read these forums? the people here make me so mad with their stupidity.

Morrowind is not coming back people. Morrowind is not a good business plan.

Bethesda haven't shown us any pictures of Alduin either! He isn't in the game!

When you're releasing images of armour, are you telling us you want it to be lopsided? I... I...

What I would like to talk about since there is already a thread open about different armor slots is, what reason would Bethesda have for leaving out different slots? What is the logic of it? Is it to make it simpler for casual players? Please don't misconstrue my questions as coy sarcasm, because I am actually interested in the reasoning. Since it was a decision made, I wonder what the discussion sounded like.

Anyone care to respond?

I like the new female armor. The stuff in previous games looked like someone took the male version and did a 3 minute edit in Maya to make it female. It's realistic while still being distinctive. Now we have some good base female armor as I ended up having to mod in some really "sixified" stuff because no one made good female stuff.

I'm not sure if Bethesda has stated anything about this, but one of the most common explanations put forth by users is that it was done to reduce abuse of the enchantment system- in Morrowind you had an almost insane amount of "enchantable slots"- left and right pauldrons/gloves, cuirass, greaves, helm, boots, shirt and pants under that, robes/skirt over that...

...not that cutting the number of slots seems to have helped when they then turned around and added 15/20% (whatever) Sigil Stones in Oblivion, making 100% Magic Absorb or Chameleon still easily attainable, which calls into question whether enchantment abuse was really the issue.

Some would say enchanting clothing and extra slots leads to obuse. But they could have easily fixed that with some limitations on what you could chant or require a higher enchant level. So it shouldn't be the case.

Technical difficulties I disagree because Morrowind had them and thats an older game/engine.

Only plausible thing I can think is that the Beth team didn't want to reskin everything due to all the custimization. But I have no knowledge of how difficult or how long it takes to reskin things, so this is just my guess.

I can understand the reasoning, but I would debate that this "abuse" was merely a side effect of true game play. Without a study how would you conclude who felt that it ruined the game play experience? I for one didn't enchant when I played Morrowind until I played it in excess of 50 hours or so and didn't feel like it detracted from the game play and enjoyment at all. Also if I remember correctly there were very few enchanted items to be found for certain slots. I don't believe I found many enchanted shirts or pants, a handful of gauntlets and I don't remember finding any enchanted pauldrons.
