If there is a Duplication Glitch will you use it?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:53 am

I am guilty of using the Duplication glitch in Oblivion to get tons of money and raise my Alchemy fast (also used the Console commands when I got the PC version), but I don't think I will do that for Skyrim. It just seems like it would be more fun to actually make money via smithing and jobs. What about you guys?

Simple:

There won't be a duplication glitch.

No, I won't use either to cheat. The only time I use the console is when I need to debug a mod or if something went horribly wrong like one of the master trainers wandering into a bandit camp and getting herself killed so I can't train anymore, then I would just respawn her with the console (and she would probably wander into it again in a few days...)

Simple:

There won't be a duplication glitch.

It's a hypothetical situation, it's not that there is going to be a duplication glitch, it's if there is a duplication glitch.

That's quite an assumption. If there is one, I'm sure it won't be the same as it was for Oblivion, but there's no way there won't be any glitches in Skyrim. One of them could very well be a dup glitch.

No, I wouldn't. I'd just pop open the console and add a second item myself. Not that I'd do that, either, though.

If it was in and it was easy to do, then yes. I would like to say I'd resist the urge but I have to be realistic...

I would rather not use it.
I have in the past to add money only because there was a mod that added a shop with very expensive armour and weapons, and I wanted to experiment with them.

This. Usually my first 1-3 playthroughs all totally legit. After I feel I've enjoyed as much of the game as possible through how it's meant to be played, I pop up the console and have a bit of fun.

I am guilty of using the dupe glitch in Oblivion :(

Though i only did it to useless stuff... It was fun seeing a giant tornado of books explode and land all over the place (Which does crash/lag the game). But if there is, I might just experiment with it with something useless, but i won't use it to cheat.

I am definitely going to go out of my way to not "look up" glitches and DEFINITELY not using the console.

Both my only morrowind and oblivion characters became too powerful from exploits (not even the super cheating ones, just overly powerful enchantments and such) to where it really became too easy and not fun anymore. I say "look up" because often, if I just play by myself, I would never have heard about these things (like unlimited lock pick) - but when I hear about it on the internet, it starts this slippery slope of semi "cheating" for me.

perhaps I just need to not go on the internet until I play the entire game to avoid the allure.

There are times you need to use the console. Obviously I have no idea what to expect from the game environment, but it is a well known fact that things happen in these games that can be very annoying.

I some times give a character an item that I find interesting during a ply through, like a boat load of bottlecap mines or the low level version of chilrend (in association with a mod to increase it's level as I get more powerful, of course), but as a rule I won't even look for console codes until I have legitimately finished the main quest at least once. The same can't be said for mods, though.

As for exploiting glitches, I don't. If I find one I usually adjust my play style to avoid situations where the glitch is present. Besides I don't think I've even seen the exploits people have mentioned lately.

dupe glitch? Nah.

One of the first things I'm going to do in Oblivion is ramp up the base damage multipliers, making the game more difficult.

In all my years of playing, I'm still not sure how the dup glitch even works. I've never been interested.

I use the console off and on, mostly to fix game glitches and irritations. Early on, I learned the commands to resurrect Shum and to get rid of the permanent enchantment and quest item status of the Ring of the Vipereye. I've used it a few times to fill out a suit of armor, for those irritating times when my character is STILL walking around with the gauntlets from the last set and the next set is due to start appearing any time now. I use it to toggle off collision if I want to retrieve a particularly nice weapon after an NPC dies and drops it inside a wall or through a floor. I've used it to change character builds and appearances mid-game. And I use it to make Mazoga essential after the Knights of the White Stallion, just because I can't bear to see her die. And..... that's about it, aside from stuff like toggling the menu and the free camera and changing the FOV for screenshots. Presuming I'll have to and be able to do similar things in Skyrim, I imagine I will.

I don't think I would use a duplication glitch on purpose but I have used the console for things like changing my character's appearance, changing my horse's name, removing dead bodies or fixing bugged quests.

I would never ever ever never ever cheat in a game....

its not because i'm a saint or anything, its because it destroyed the point of playing utterly, for me anyway

You can use duping to balance your character.

How?

Through binding and binding can be used to balance as much as it can be used to OP your character. Especially with Oblivion's wonky level scaling, level system, and the 'not always great' difficulty slider. You can also use it for RPing.

Never bothered with stuff like that.

Only time I've used the PC console is 1) TFC & TAI to take a cool screenshot; 2) TCL to get out of terrain errors; 3) TGM / "kill" in the rare occasion that the clothing mod I'm trying out felt like sticking the clothing on a grossly overpowered lv40+ juggernaut. :D

(TFC - toggle free camera; TAI - toggle enemy AI; TCL - toggle clipping; TGM - toggle god mode)

It's more fun to play the game. :)

I use the console all the time. To debug, as the most obvious one, but also to do other things.

For example, if I'm RPing a rich merchant in Oblivion (I've modded out the prisoner intro), I'll use the console to give him a decent starting package for a merchant.
If I'm constructing my own 'quest' in the game by giving the world proper ramifications for my character's story, I'll use the console to set up the obstructions and problems and even rewards for that story that the original game can't cover.

I use it to better enhance my experience, whether that be through giving me further challenges or through further rewards.
