Is there gonna be vehicles?

Post » Tue Nov 23, 2010 6:19 pm

If the car is as trivial as the horse in Oblivion, sure, why not. :P

If they do add vehicles in the future, I'd want them to be limited and without the GTA roadkill aspects.

Like, without turning fallout into Borderlands?

Yep. And for another example, without turning it into what Rage seems to be doint.

I believe that it's a Fallout tradition to have vehicles. Fallout 1 did; Fallout 2 did; Van Buren would have, had it been the Fallout 3 that was released. But the flip side of that is, those games took place on a much larger scale. We're talking LA to Seattle or so, much larger than a little corner of the East Coast, much larger than a little slice of the Mojave Desert.

Fallout 1 didn't have vehicles, though.

Very true, also Fallout 2's Highwayman was basically only there to speed up the travel time between locations and to offer a mobile storage boot (trunk). Plus the other one which the less said about the better for the previous gen consoles didn't have vehicles either.

I'm not hoping for driveable vehicles, but I hope some factions will use tanks like those Chimeras in Operation: Anchorage. They were as durable as Sentry Bots, but they lacked the power in their weapons. If they are enemies like Chinese Remnants, then they can probably upgrade weapons when gaining levels. They can become armed with Miniguns, Missile Launchers, Flamers, and Gatling Lasers. I can also imagine the last part of the story having NCR capture some, and then they arm each Chimera with a Fat Man (if you work with NCR).

There won't be anything for you to drive though. Even if there was, it would be heavily restricted to boundaries for a quest.

only way id see em adding it is if they made the maps liek 10x bigger and eliminated fast travel completely making a need for having a cargo hold for ammo loot and supplies

Are there gonna be drivable vehicles in fallout new vegas, i hope not cause that would ruin having to go through the wastes.

Confirmed no. Although we will likely see something similar to Tobars Ferry or the Pitt handcart

I wouldn't mind the the factions used vehicles, similar to the ones in Fallout Tactics (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Armored_Personnel_Carrier, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Buggy, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Scouter, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Hummer and http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Tank) if only they were parked or in scripted events and we would never be able to drive them, at least not actively. Maybe drive them like how we go to the destinations in the DLC (the hand cart, the ferry) or like how we fly in that Vertibird in Broken Steel.

But I'd really love the Ceasar's Legion to rull up with a looted, dirty, cutomized pre-war tank. It'd be like their flag ship!

Has there been any word on that sort of thing?

I know there's a monorailstation in Vegas, but it existing is the only info I've heard. And other than that, I haven't heard anything of the sort.

Cars don't run on gas in the Fallout universe. You should know that.

A Solar Powered Golf Cart! :celebration: but seriously :stare: there will be no cars or anything else that has wheels, tracks or legs that we can ride/control in New Vegas. Might be a monorail but you can't take it joyriding in the desert.

It would be good to have something that hovers like a Mr.Handy made into a chair but I don't expect to see that.

i thought they were implemented really well... I'd be surprised if they didn't use it again.
Secondary to that: I've suggested before, that this type of system could work to add a car or bike or whatever, to the current game.
Think about this: You walk outta megaton. Your rebuilt highwayman is parked in front. Selecting the car gives you the option of accessing the trunk (for cargo) or the map. Opening the map shows all your found locations. From this map you can select fast travel points. You select Rivet City.
Open load screen... when done, you are in front of Rivet City and the Highway is again parked just outta the way.

This is the only way I can really see this working in the current game. People who want the car get it... The map won't need overhauling, as you won't actively control the vehicle... Anybody who wants a unique house now has cargo and maybe a back seat to sleep in.

Thoughts?

Nothing controlable, no, but vehicles moving in scripted events and vehicles that we can ride in, maybe just in certain events like a quest (like the vertibird in BS)

I'd love to see some urban warfare with like a tank rolling up and shooting civilians. Maybe one course of events if you help the CL is that they invade New Vegas and The Strip, since it's controlled by the NCR, and they bring a tank looted from a National Guard depot. *giggles* oh, man...

Yep, I think there is going to be a monorail that will act the same as the handcart to The Pitt.

A tank like Tactics I could see, not the tanks seen in OP. Problem with that is people will say "I want to ride/control the tank!" and this forum will be full of angry rant threads. "The NCR can have a tank but why can we have a car?!! :swear:" It just best to avoid it.
