There has to be slaying

Post » Sun May 30, 2010 10:30 pm

Is the OP serious? Killing guys getting near your stuff is defending, defending is your objective, objective gameplay.

So if in Brink your enemy isn't near an objective you just let him go? No you kill him before he gets anywhere near the objective. Being a slayer can ensure less resistance or defenders at the actual objective. Weed out the stragglers in the back of the pack. And yes i'm serious. There are team deathmatch elements in the game. I dont care if the enemy is near an objective your main goal is still to kill them.

If you're on the defending team and you get slaughthered in combat, you can still win in this game. Just shoot the guys near the objective. In this game you can win without having thr best shooters with crazy accuracy.

Lets take the robot escorting as an example: the defending team has to stop it: they can keep the enemy team away from it by killin them or they can try to damage the robot so that it can'tnmove.

Another example: when Wedgewood plants the HE charge on that door, a defending engineer will get the mission to defuse that explosive charge. He has to attack that position.

So for each class ability there is another way to counter it, in all situation or just most?

A whole lot of class abilities can be countered:
- a turret from an engineer can be hacked by an enemy operative or by lobbing nades at it. - i think ops can spot landmines while engineers disarm them
- soldiers explosives can be defused by engineers
- health buffs get countered by shooting (duh)
- disguised operatives can be spotted by other operatives
- and so on, we don't know everything yet.

haven't i explained this yet? ofcourse there are "team deathmatch elements" in the game... it's a fps, you can hardly have a fps where you never have to kill enemies can you?(alright, in essence it's possible, but you know what i mean)

Wasn't explaining it to you. Was for the other guy. I've never argued that there isn't an objective or that it isn't important and you should say screw the objective. I've never argued against. But the whole thread has been me trying to defend myself.

Idc if anyone disagrees, that's the point of an opinion. I'm not arguing with anyone else about what they said so idk why they're arguing with me. I'm simply stating my opinion or perspective on the subject.

From your original post yes the defenders will spend most of their time killing the offensive players in so that they won't complete their objective. Defenders will have side missions.

Now lets talk an example from Container City.

Objective 1: Blow door. Defenders have to prevent the enemy from blowing the door with an HE charge. Only an engineer can defuse the charge once it has been placed.

Objective 2. Escort bot. Fairly simply keep blowing up bot and offensive team.

Objective 3. Actitivate crane. Keep them away from the crane

Objective 4. Cut into crate.

Objective 4: Capture X and return to sub.

All in all the defend does seem to be solely there to keep the offense away from their objectives usually via death.

If you don't want to kill people, perhaps you should play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdwg0oDetgI. ;)

Engineers have to escort and repair it, so I can only assume that doing enough damage would break it, so it wouldn't move until repaired.

It can be damaged so hard it's unable to move.

@ OP; im not quite sure what the point of this thread is for...Brink is a shooter so ur goin to kill things one way or another. r u tryin to ask is killin x amount of ppl as defense an objective (like in battlefield bc2)? if so from what ive seen no thats not how it works in brink, they hav a timer. and as other ppl stated the defense will hav other side objectives.

also @REVOLUZZER great vid

In W:ET, I remember a mission where you escorted a tank. Defending Engineers needed to build barricades, attacking Engineers needed to blow them up. The Defending team's objective was simply to prevent the attacking team from completing theirs.

In Dystopia, the Attacking team will do things such as hack turrets, open doors and blow things up. The Defending team encrypts the computer system, locks doors and repairs things. The defending teams are purely reactive most of the time, but that doesn't mean they have no objectives. But OP, I get what you mean.

How are they going to handle defensive gameplay? There has to be some command post stealing and intel gathering but generally there has to be members standing by their objectives killing anyone who steps near it. To me this resembles a team deathmatch type style. The game is objective based so how much objective taking will be on the defensive side?

If you read the original post you would see what the point was. Asking about what exactly the defensive team would be doing for objectives other than "kill the bad guys coming near your objective".

There are some side objectives that both sides can do (I think) Like rescue citizens to give your whole team exp bonus. Or gather Intel so you have more time (Or is it so the respawn point changes?... maybe depends situation). I think capturing command posts could help defend. I'm sure there will be more objectives for the defending team other than just killing the guys near the main focus at that moment.

From http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSXr_85Ctm8&#t=4m30s.

"Chances are they're spread too thin. That can happen, because there's actually a lot of objectives going on in this mission besides the spot. This is the primary thing; but the enemy, they could be out trying to take command posts to give themselves an advantage; they could be out actually trying to find enemy (attackers) intelligence, which will actually completely change their teams spawn-points so they can keep in the action that much faster."

Which means there are side missions going on, but ultimately they allow you to strike against the attackers even faster by shooting them.

well readin ur second post, shows u aleady knew there would be side objectives.... so there was no point to this thread. and it seems lik now ur jus wantin to argue if there is team death match, which already stated is brink is a shooter so ofcourse ur goin to be killin ppl......

There is no TDM. Brink is not a mainstream FPS. Ofcourse you're going to shoot people, but you have a reason to do so, because your team has to complete objectives. When you complete objectives you can gain side routes, play on different parts of the map, ... It's about teamplay, not just running around and fragging like COD Team Deathmatch.

It's a completely different type of game. W:ET is a game way closer related to Brink and is still a very popular game after more than 5 years.

Omg no way how did you know i knew their was objectives? Theres not a team deathmatch, but that the defense will be doing a lot more killing than the offense. Was looking for specific side missions that aren't apart of the "main" objective and that aren't class specific. Like when the game will "randomly" pick a player and tell them to go and get a randomly spawned intel item for example. This isn't class specific and has nothing to do with the main objective. But thank you for taking the time to read all my posts and take nothing from them.

tch, why would you think the defenders have to do a lot more killing? even teams, both have to keep the enemy away from the objective though the reasons differ. there's as much a focus on killing in offense as on defense

To be a bit more accurate, the defense will need to do a lot more killing than the offense. (It doesn't mean they will necessarily be the team doing more killing. ) This is how it usually is in attack and defend games.

Was looking for specific side missions that aren't apart of the "main" objective and that aren't class specific. Like when the game will "randomly" pick a player and tell them to go and get a randomly spawned intel item for example.

The intel mission is not strictly reserved for the defending team. It is a mechanic designed to offer help to witch ever team is losing - badly, as Richard Ham describes:

"There’s no better example of this than enemy intelligence. That’s a particular objective that can come up when one team is completely dominating. Sometimes that’s just unavoidable. It’s just random luck of the draw that this team has a combination of people and combination of ping. For whatever reason, they are just dominating that other team. That’s demoralizing for the other team, and the kick ass team isn’t having that much fun either, really."
