He meant they might not be in.

I never used a mount once in Oblivion, and it's about the same size. Besides, with mountains they'd be annoying.

So we're probably looking at the same reason Fallout 3 didn't have vehicles. The terrain.

Of course, a mountain road or two could fix that.

Meh. I never used horses in Oblivion, so it doesn't bother me.
Besides from an Occam's Razor development standpoint, horses become pretty tertiary in priority when you have Fast Travel to the extent that they do (assuming not much has changed from FO3).

From what I'm assuming yes. But he said they didn't feel right in Oblivion and he'd rather spend time on more important things.

Exactly.

I'm kind of hoping there aren't any mounts. More incentive to actually make the landscape have interesting things as the player walks from point A to point B. If you have fast travel AND mounts then you're never going to see anything the world has to offer (which didn't matter in Oblivion because it had nothing to offer other than a few trivial wellsprings and runestones.)

I'm specifically hoping there won't be mounts, unless there's combat while mounted. I never used a mount in Oblivion because I hated having to get off my horse to shoot my bow.

Mounts were just meh.
Rocketing around in oblivion on a "mount" with a dodgy control system was never much fun... always ended up running instead, less death by fall-off-mountain or eaten-by-wolves scenarios.

Unless they can make it more like RDR mounts then i`m not losing sleep over it.

He never said there isn't going to be mounts... he said they won't have them unless they are implemented properly. Did anyone even listen to the podcast? There are are like 8 months of dev time left.

Of all the features to cut, this makes the most sense. Unfortunately, the podcast implied they're dumping time into a mount system.

If there are in I hope they do not force you to use them because I really don't want them.

I'd rather they'd not put them in at all then to have mounts ala Oblivion. Todd agrees. However, don't count mounts out yet. Things are still being worked on. Beth wants horses to feel alive like in Red Dead Redemption. From the sounds of things, they want every aspect in the game to be properly fleshed out/not tacked on for the sake of it, which is completely respectable. Beth known for their horrid animation? Not this time.

Mounts are certainly NOT a waste of time if they perform properly a la Red Dead or even Assassin's Creed.

FO3 didn't have cars because it's set in a post-apocalyptic alternate universe. Everything we knew of our world has been blasted to kingdom come and any car engine or even windows have been scavenged and used for building materials by fallout survivors. Like how the settlers of Megaton destroyed the airplanes at that airfield to build their city; they didn't think once about using them for travel.

So that's the reason there are no cars in FO3, in one of the previous FO games however you could eventually buildt yourself a car.

But regardless I hope to see horses in this game used for other things than mounts, like pulling ploughs, or carts.. generally as a beast of burden rather than a means of transportation.

I'd LOVE to have mounts, but I'd rather NOT have them if they were going to be as in Oblivion.

It was a DLC-ready creature and nothing more...

Mounts are a waste of time but if people want them then sure add them in. Me I'll be walking because I want to raise my skills.

It will sure feel strange not having horses in...

On the other hand, it really makes it harder and more rewarding to cross the countryside, somewhat like in Morrowind :) .

They are obviously working on mounts right now. Todd just doesn't want to confirm it until it's finished.

Good point. I`d quite like to see them used in those kind of scenarios. Imagine strolling through a nice little village and seeing the villagers working in the fields with plough horses..that would be neat.

Mind you, what happens when the nice peacful village gets dive bombed by Huge Famished Dragon...i`m sure it would roast the horses pulling ploughs and lift them up in the air in it`s talons and...MUNCH!!!

Wow didn't realise that so many people is against mounts... I mean, I know they were BAD in oblivion but damn!

Oh well, I REALLY hope they are in EVEN if they are as bad as in oblivion. I hate to use fast travel, which I will have to use if there arent any form of mounts in...

- Horses rock.
- Vikings rock.
- Viking horses rock.

So, it is not a waste of time. I would like to have horses.

I'll probably just walk, doesn't matter if horses are in or not. They're nice and all, but walking around the world makes it seem bigger for me I guess. Now, if they can hold my stuff for me, I might reconsider. I'll just have to wait and see.

Did that statement not use a double negative, the 'can't' and 'not' would cancel eachother out. Meaning a game this big would probably have mounts. Maybe I'm wrong.
