Story

Spoiler
In the years following the Second Battle of Hoover Dam New Vegas has become a thing of wonder. The city that stood against two empires, a peek at life as it existed in the pre-war era, a cathedral set upon the worship of indulgence, and a grand city surrounded by opportunity for adventure and resultant fame. Even as the New California Republic seeks to villainize the excess it represents and the actions of its leader, many embrace its potential. A last vestige of the wild and free world of the wasteland amidst the ever growing “civilizing” reach of the New California Republic, New Vegas, the city that never sleeps.

Word has reached throughout the Western Wastelands that House is seeking out adventurers, looking for people who have not been to New Vegas to come for some unknown purpose. It may just be a simple public relations campaign. It may just be House trying to counter the attempts by NCR bureaucrats to drain him of money and support. On the other hand the last man who answered House’s call had become a legend. It may be an opportunity to change the world once more.

Those that dare to leave their lives in the NCR, or what few lands in the area remain free of their influence, would do well to be wary. The Mojave is not what it once was and myriad threats await the daring adventurer.

Your Involvement

Spoiler
In this RP you are one of the daring few who have put aside his or her past life for the opportunity to make a new one in New Vegas. You will make your way to the Mojave Outpost where you will pass from NCR lands, against the advice and urging of the troopers stationed there, into the Mojave and the waiting escort provided by House. You’ve gathered all you deem necessary for survival in the Mojave and whatever weapon you deem most likely to preserve your life, whether that be a gun, knife, or simply your winning personality and brilliant white smile. As you reach the gate you will witness the silent tension of NCR troopers staring down the Chairmen gathered just beyond their jurisdiction, and take the first steps into the great unknown and the adventure of your life.

For this RP I’m looking for posters who are interested in exploring the Mojave with new eyes and contributing to the story as it develops. This isn’t a typical squad based RP. While you will all travel to New Vegas together, once you have learned what House is looking for it is up to you how, or if, you group up. Numbers can work for or against you, and there is nothing holding any of your characters together beyond their willingness to cooperate. You can ask NPCs nearly anything and they will respond based on their knowledge, your reputation, and the reputation of those you travel with.

Combat and exploration will work differently in this RP. While you can venture out aimlessly if you want to it is wiser to ask around about the surrounding area or pursue rumors. Players will not be able to write certain things in their posts such as what your character sees around them or whether or not their attacks find their targets. These things will be determined by the GM (me), though you can still include your characters thoughts, emotions, and actions once the environment has been introduced or the battle has reached its conclusion.

Ex.
Spoiler

- You venture out aimlessly from New Vegas heading to the North

- The GM (or a Co-GM) explains that as you explore you come across a defunct drive-in theater littered with broken down and stripped cars. As you near it a marauding band of three raiders armed with simple melee weapons emerges from behind the lobby. They demand you drop your weapons and empty your pockets or they’ll call for reinforcements.
- You post your characters reactions to being accosted. Attack, bluff, or follow their orders

- The GM posts the results of your actions.

- When the event reaches its conclusion you post how your characters react to the death of the three raiders (they had no reinforcements), or what they discuss with the raiders if they’ve talked them down (the raiders are just starving and know no other way), or how they feel after having been robbed (probably not very good). Perhaps you kill them even though they surrendered to prevent them from preying on others. Perhaps you direct them toward Westside or Freeside in the hopes they'll turn their lives around. Perhaps after being robbed you follow them to their hovel and plan your assault.

As the story progresses and we encounter factions posters can influence a faction of their choosing (so long as they are not in, or allied with someone in, that faction) via PMs or through the OOC. The degree to which you control your faction, should you choose to control one, will be partly dependent on the power of that faction within the Mojave and partly dependent on how vital that faction is to the overarching story…but primarily upon your ability and desire to control a powerful entity without harming the experience of others.

Recent History

Spoiler

A few short years after the Second Battle of the Hoover Dam the Mojave has gone through dramatic changes. Robert House had emerged the victor and moved quickly to eject both the New California Republic and Legion forces from his lands. With control of the Dam and Helios One House set about rewarding those who had stood by his side and punishing those who dared to stand against him. House’s focus on New Vegas and the surrounding area proved advantageous to those who had previously been restrained by the presence of the NCR and Legion.
The factions of the Mojave desert have sought to determine what role they can play in this new wasteland. Some have grown in power, some have shrunk, and some have been done away with altogether. Who has benefitted and at whose cost? You will have to find out for yourselves.

John doesn't remember much of his young childhood over than it was a city somewhere in the NCR and he was born nine years before Mr. House's victory at Hoover Dam and about two years before the NCR had reached Vegas although was still facing the Legion in Arizona. For the first few years of his life John grew up happily with his family but shortly after his fifth birthday he and his family were “exiled” for something his father did or was claimed to have done by some Brahmin baron who was against his father was some reason. Either way they were kicked out of the city and moved to the city of new Reno, wasn't even a week later before something “Nasty” happen to John’s parents and he was alone on the street.

Growing up alone on the streets of New Reno wasn't easily for John so he turned to stealing and joined a gang of orphans who specialised in breaking into houses and stealing food and other items which they would sell to the shop owners around town, many who were happy to turn an blind eye to where the goods where gotten if they could buy it cheaper from them. That was John’s life for the next several years until he got caught breaking into the hotel room of an elderly OSI Doctor, Samuel Lancaster but instead of calling the cops the man took pity on the young orphan and adopted John, taking him back home to NCR capital. With the help and guidance of Mr Lancaster John was enrolled in one of the local schools and quickly caught up with his classmates. Deciding to follow in his new father’s footsteps John studied medicine at the NCR only “university” where he graduated at the top of class.

With his grades (and some help from his adopted father) John got a job in the OSI medical research department, where they attempted to make (or rediscover) new medicines to keep NCR Citizens (and the army) fit and healthy and as a member of OSI, he was also given some weapon training although not the energy weapons they got in the science departments. John’s time in the OSI was not to last however as he frequently ran afoul with Director Thomas Hildern who stole the teams ideas as his own. This lead to John beating up Hildern in-front of the board of directors as he claimed John’s “auto-inject” stimpack idea was his. Although Hildern admitted to stealing the idea John was fired from the OSI with no-one else wanting to hiring him and Mr Lancaster dead from old age John decided to leave the NCR and headed west to New Vegas. Upon hearing about this meeting with House John decided to join up… Meeting and Gaining the Favour of the most important person of Vegas could be useful.

Personality and Background: Sparrow as he is called (named after the AA missile), has always been interested in the world outside of Nellis, desiring to see the places described by Mr. New Vegas over the radio. This dream came true when a Courier working for House evaded the Boomers' artillery barrage and and arrived at the gates of Nellis. The stranger helped raise the bomber from Lake Mead, and in exchange, the Boomers provided their aid in the Battle for Hoover Dam. Sparrow was one of the first Boomers to venture out into the Mojave wasteland to open trade with the outside world. Upon learning of Vault 34's fate, he organized an expedition into the vault to recover any weapons or ordnance left behind (a feat made much easier by the fact that all of the ghouls had already been killed).

When word of House's expedition arrived at Nellis via radio, Sparrow jumped at the opportunity. While not all of the Boomers agree with his choice, he has been granted permission to answer House's call. Like most Boomers, Sparrow is somewhat xenophobic and looks down on outsiders, but is more than willing to interact with them. He possesses an insatiable curiosity, desiring to see new places up close (even wanting to follow the Sierra Madre broadcast before a flyover revealed the source of the broadcast was covered by an unnatural red fog). And, as is normal for his people, Sparrow loves explosives.

A well-read copy of Caesar's book: Commentarii de bello Colorado (Commentary on the Colorado war)
200 Legion Denarii

Weapons: Forged Legion Gladius, Legion Pilum (Throwing spear), and a Hunting Rifle.

Personality and Background: Like many in the Legion, Aetius was not born with his Legion name, nor was he born as part of the Legion. His tribe was one of many which called the plains of Arizona home, and they lived a peaceful existence until the Legion arrived. Aetius was a small boy at the time, and remembers little, but he does remember the Legion's swift and brutal takeover of their tribe, and being torn away from his mother to be trained and serve under the red banner of the Bull. From then on, he was a Legion soldier. From the moment he woke up in the morning, to the minute he laid his head down to rest for the night, he trained constantly and furiously, with the discipline that only Caesar's Legion could instill in a man. He learned how to wield a Legionary sword as if it was an extension of his own arm, and most of all: he learned discipline and cunning, two aspects of the Legion which were vital to its success.

When he came of age, he was immediately assigned into Legio X Arizona and sent on a campaign against some tribesmen in the east. The war lasted several years, with the tenth Legion fighting, conquering, and subduing tribe after tribe. Much like Aetius's own tribe had been conquered years before. When the campaign was done, and Aetius and his comrades were sent back to Flagstaff, Aetius had earned the rank of Centurion due to his battlefield aptitude, bravery, and fortitude in the face of the enemy. Aetius was given a year or two of peace in Caesar's capital, during which he had the chance of meeting Caesar himself. Aetius became enthralled with the idea's espoused by Caesar, and his loyalty to the Legion was solidified. Despite what had been done to his own tribe, although he could no longer remember them, he became unwavering in his devotion to Caesar.

The peace ended when Aetius was once again sent along with Legio X to the north: to wage war against various outlying tribes and factions in the Denver region. Now serving as Centurion, Aetius again served with distinction, but the war in Colorado proved to be one of the bloodiest and vicious of the Legion's history. When Denver itself finally fell to the Legion, Aetius once again expected a year or two of peace, but instead the tenth Legion was recalled to Nevada, where Caesar himself was fighting forces of the New California Republic. Aetius and his men however, never made it to Nevada, as the Second Battle of Hoover Dam occured before they could arrive, and Caesar's forces were utterly defeated. With Caesar now dead, and the Legion leaderless, second in command Legate Lanius was proclaimed Caesar. Aetius took this in stride, and did his best to serve as loyally as he could, but the heart of the Legion had been ripped out.

The end for his time with the Legion finally came when Lanius took Aetius and several cohorts of legionaries on a punitive raid into NCR territory. After killing an NCR company of troopers, they came upon a town and Lanius made up his mind to raze the place to the ground to 'send a message' to the NCR. He began ordering the town to be burned, and everyone inside it to be put to the sword: including women and children. Despite his loyalty to the Legion, Aetius disobeyed a direct order to aid in the ruthless torture and massacre of innocents that was occurring. The Legion had been brutal in the past, yes, but under the true Caesar it had never been psychotic. Lanius was a monster, and Aetius utterly refused to be a part of his bloodlust.

He fully expected to be executed, but Lanius showed a very rare moment of mercy, and spared Aetius' life. Believing (perhaps correctly) that banishing Aetius would be a far worse punishment than an execution. Separated from his beloved Legion forever. His purpose gone, Aetius took jobs where he could. Including that of a caravan guard, mercenary, and other odd jobs. In general, he's a loner of sorts, but is a loyal sort of man, and willing to fight and die for those he perceives as 'comrades'. However, his nostalgia and obvious loyalty to the Legion (albeit an utter hatred of Lanius) will likely turn many people away from him. And some of his Legion mannerisms can be a bit off-putting as well.

Background:
"I needed a drink, I needed a lot of life insurance, I needed a vacation, I needed a home in the country. What I had was a coat, a hat and a gun."
Born to the Bishops in New Reno, Tommy was brought up and learned everything he needed to know. How to shoot, how to fight, how to smoke, how to drink and a few other things. He was looking to be a big man in the Family Business. Life was good, he got a small bar to run.
Then she walked in. Soft brown skin, sparkling emerald eyes, ruby lips, shining black hair, a playful smile, a teasing look and a voice matched only by her beauty and brains. He was smitten the moment he saw her, there was only one problem. She was a Mordino. A daughter of the Boss.
That didn't stop him.

Long story short, the families found out, he ran for the hills. Wandering about for a while, he snuck back into Reno to try and see her, only to find she'd gone east, and nobody knew where. Broken by this, he wandered around a little more. Then one day, he caught word of a Singer in New Vegas from a passing caravan. Green Eyes, Black Hair, Red Lips. It had to be her. And one sure-fire way to get into Vegas, was with the new Expedition that House was calling for. And so making his way to the Mojave Outpost, he waits to make his way to New Vegas.

1 Bedroll
2 Flares
6 Stimpaks
3 Fresh Water
3 Radaway
1 box of .308 rounds
15 .357 Magnum Rounds
1 Nuka Cola
2 Trail Mix
1 Weapon Repair Kit
920 NCR Dollars
100 Caps

Weapons: Hunting Rifle, Hatchet and .357 Magnum Revolver

Personality: What Deanna lacks in basic knowledge, she makes up for in the practical applications of skills and trades. It will take her a moment to fully process new ideas, but in the end, she tries her best to understand the views of others. She can be blunt at times, and aggressive if a 'smart person' talks down to her, but is usually very friendly and talkative in social situations. Growing up during the conflict in the Mojave, she has a dislike for the Legion and everything they stood for (she doesn't know much about them in truth, and has only heard about all the atrocities they have/had committed).

Background: Deanna was born in 2259 at the Old Mormon Fort, to a young mother, who was not quite ready to actually be a mother. She left a newborn Deanna in the care of her own mother, and shipped off to look for work with the Crimson Caravans. Deanna's upbringing was a pretty typical one, as Old Lady Gibson (middle-aged at the time), tried to give her only (known) granddaughter a normal childhood. She bestowed upon her everything she knew, hoping one day the young girl could be capable of surviving the wastes all on her own. The task proved difficult as Deanna was not the brightest child, but with a little hard work and a lot of tough love, the girl was able to hunt successfully at a young age - with the accompaniment of a canine companion, of course.

At the age of 17, she became determined to see the Mojave and maybe, in an odd chance, locate her mother. She pleaded with her grandmother to join her, especially with the westward advancement of the Legion in the area. Unable to persuade her, Deanna set off on her own for NCR territory with a scavenged military backpack and a dog from the scrapyard. She coincidently ran into a caravan, and traveled with them, eventually landing in The Hub.
Unable to find her mother, she settled down in the area. In odd luck, she was able to obtain a deed to a property, and made a life for herself as a dog breeder, selling a few puppies here and there to those needing them for protection or companionship. In the end, she felt as if she was missing something in her life and decided to return back home to the now Legion-free Mojave. Selling most of her possessions and leaving the majority of her dogs to a caravan friend, she set off back down the I-15 with her most prized dog companion, Lupin. As she stopped at various settlements along the way, she heard a rumor about an expedition set up by the infamous ruler of New Vegas - Mr. House, himself. The Mojave Outpost was a necessary stop for her anyways, so she made her way there, intending to check out the welcome party.

Gear: Gomorrah sees to his needs

Weapons: The Chieftain (Sawed of 12-Gauge), Brass Knuckles, St. Valentines (12.7mm Tommy Gun)

Occupation: Mafia Boss

Combat preference: Barron is always in the thick of things. Opening up with his Tommy Gun, rushing in with the Shotgun, and pulverizing the unlucky few who still draw breath.

Skills: He's a capable boxer and more than capable of taking down larger opponents though he prefers shotguns and smgs as he's not particularly accurate with firearms. He's a tactician who understands that some things need a gentle hand and others a sledgehammer.

Personality and Background:

Arrogant and cocky, brimming with confidence. He's psychotic, unpredictable, and a egotistical sadist. Driven by the need to kill, and his want for power. He battles the two sides of himself to meet his end goal. Whatever they might be. Barron began his killing spree when he was twelve after a raider attack he began to show psychotic tendencies and one night burned his parents in their sleep, after which he joined up with a few gangs and eventually ran them until he came to New Reno and saw the power of the Bishops, Wrights and Van Graffs, which inspired him to take that power for himself but to do that he needed power of his own and a plan.

And as fate brought him to Reno it had once again turned in his favor with his soon to be on-again off-again girlfriend Carol Rosewater whose father worked for the Gun Runners as a high ranking member, their meeting they begin their toxic relationship. Carol, who is in her own right is just as dangerous as Barron, is the brains of the operation. Her intelligence and social skills bring many of Barrons plans to fruition and they steal plans and schematics from the Gun Runners and start up their own casino in a city close to Reno called the Cathouse where drugs, guns, gambling, and women are abundant. As his plan to take over Reno, beginning with Bishop, began to develop Bishop somehow discovered his plotting. How that came to pass Barron may never know, but Bishop struck first, burning his casino to the ground and running him and his crew out of town.

Recalling previous messages from an old friend Barron sought New Vegas. His friend, Cachino, had found himself in charge of a rather lucrative casino after the previous owners, Nero and Big Sal, mysteriously vanished. Barron was greeted as a brother upon arrival and positions were found or made for him and his companions; Tombs the Nightkin, Smithe the Pre-War Ghoul, and of course Ms. Carol Rosewater.
