There needs to be native damage numbers, NOT through mods

Post » Sun Feb 16, 2014 4:58 pm

Have fun in Cyrodiil with no combat feedback then!

By the way, the problem with mods is that often they become outdated and broken by patches, and especially in the early life of ESO there will be multiple patches and it will be a modding headache.

Let me see if I can find that video I'm talking about. Ok here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-18qjhldUZM. I'd hardly call that cluttering. You can tell when he's hitting, missing, healing etc. without it cluttering the screen.

I can tell you all right now that if you want to be competitive in Cyrodiil you will need a mod like this. You will not be able to compete without combat feedback.

DPS meters and combat logs aren't the same things. A combat log doesn't have to show how much damage other players are doing to enemies with their attacks. It only needs to show numbers that affect you directly. It's a harmless teaching/bragging tool.

I don't care for DPS meters either.

Combat logs typically show in the chat, so your HUD wont be cluttered by anything.

Also like every other chat channel it can be filtered out.

Guys i remember damage logs in Baldurs Gate, so stop the WoW madness please.

Would you play a pen and paper rpg without dices?

it just leads down a dark path -- now combat logs, later DPS meters, best never get started in the 1st place.

the SWTOR beta had exactly the same problem I remember, there were no damage number and there was a huge outcry and demand for bringing it in the game.

personally I want it and it gives a nice indication on how your damage is and people who dont like it are free to not download the mod or disable the option in the interface wherever it may be.

Here's how I measure my dps with dps meters. Using TTK.

The only way to stop DPS meters from intruding on your game would be to make it impossible to make mods that do this kind of thing. Because the way it is now, the "serious guilds" will just require you to install the mods.

Got to agree with K9 here, the small benefits that seeing floating numbers would bring about are WAY offset by the drawbacks. Took a bit of getting used to but after a few hours of PvP, if you're any kind of gamer, you get a feel for what the range of your bow is. Why do players need everything spoon fed to them?

100% THIS!!!

The most clean the screen the better, finallly i can play a game thats not filled with stuff in my face, i dont wanna see numbers floating from the enemy, the health bar already shows you if you're hitting your target, theres really no need for numbers, a combat log window is enough.

Please dont try to make ESO a generic MMO, if you want that install ADDONS, ESO devs already made that option for those who is not happy with the Standard UI.

Remember, dont try to ruin people's games to turn yours better.

You're going to get them no matter what. I don't use DPS meters but I'm not naive enough to think they won't be used.

I know it will be used, just don't put them in the default UI -- combat logs, DPS meters, etc That is why there are Add-ons.

Maybe you didn't read what I said about using bows.

A combat log might seen like enough but I have a combat log in Star Trek Online and it scrolls so fast you can't see what's going on by looking at it.

Making them a default option (not DPS meters, just floating numbers for yourself) prevents the problems mods have when the game is updated.

Again, you obviously didn't read what I said about bows. They have a unique problem with lack of combat feedback.

I would even be fine with something as simple as the cursor changing color when you hit something. Anything to tell me I'm hitting. Anything to tell me my target is within my bow's unrealistically short range and I'm not wasting stamina trying to hit it.

This is a problem mostly with bows.

Why tha hell would i want to look at the combat log to see whats going on??? I WANNA SEE THE SCREEN for God Sake!!!!!!!!

After the battle ends, i check the combat log to see what happened... no big deal!

Study the combat log to see when a target was out of range after I used a lot of stamina to use a bow skill? No.

Combat logs = combat feedback, in real time, via a new chat tab. Combat feedback is sorely lacking in this game and it's one of the primary complaints.

Holycannoli, im sorry man, but this is not a game for you, you want a game that you see "infos" instead of looking at the real battle. TES Games was never like this!

the people who are advocating Addons are not thinking it through.

You say you don't want ESO to turn into a WoW clone with Elitist DPS jerks? Those addons you are pushing others to use to keep your UI clean are what cause those Jerks.

If anything I would give a UI with more options (user Toggled) and limit the use of player made addons.

Reaction with out thought solves nothing in the long run

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Only need to be able to look at a log to see what happened after a fight.
