RIFT have stupid mounts that break the games, lore, events that are not lore based, a cash store, and most of the time one is forced to play by the numbers instead what is happening on the screen. I do not want that for ESO.
RIFT is a fun game, but it is a WoW in many ways also. I like ESO better. The only reason I played RIFT is to learn about MMO's -- how people interact with each, how guilds work, how jerks work, how to the play the game, life on the forums and how people interact with each other --- it was a study to understand ESO better. I have 3219 hours into Skyrim alone, plus other TES games. I know both sides of the coin.
Subjective.
There is a reason why WoW was so successful. Would it not be wise to place some of those elements that made it successful into ESO as long as it does not hurt the integrity of the game?
More numbers does not equal WoW clone...
What you wanna lost?? Gear? Loot? you armor already breaks with death... tho you lost gold...
Im a pvp'er ... a hardcoe one, i really would like to see mroe "violence" and consequences in the game, let everyone dies and get their corpses looted... i dont mind... but dont say the game doesnt have a purpouse, you should remember this is for fun.
Just play, if you like, good, if dont, try another MMO.
I enjoyed that there were no numbers. It made the world that much more immersive and less available to min-maxers. I'm going to be selfish here and say that I prefer things stay this way, without an option. I don't want this game to be like other MMOs.
I think your anology is completely out of whack, mate.
ESO has ALL the basic standard MMO functions, what you are asking for is ADDITIONAL to that, much like a non-standard option on a car, like a sunroof for instance. It's nice but it isn't required (and to say it is is just comical).
Fortunately the devs have already stated that the only addons that will be allowed are UI addons and I, for one, am so glad they decided on that. I do not want a repeat of WoW where Gear Score and all other related addons are reasons to be elitist jerks.
I know there will be jerks in ESO, every game has them. I am trying to say, don't put that info in the default UI -- less info means less change of jerk-isms. One does not need numbers for health bars -- if a health bar is down by 70% and from three hits, one knows the monster is hitting your char hard and thus keep your health closer to full full. If your health bar is not going down fast, one can let is get much lower before one needs to heal -- it does gave you the info, just not in the number format.
Not at all, i heavly disagree with this, WoW was sucessful because of its franchise and its big Fan's playerbase, what makes TES in a very similar place, another thing, wow succeeded too because of its immersion and own features, what other games didnt have... ie: Griphon and Wyvern Flying Taxi.
ESO, has no targeting... and is more RPG oriented... thats for me, its a win.
If the ability descriptions are accurate then that will be sufficient.
Have you played the game?
No ESO doesn't have the basic standard features it should have.
I would never want floating numbers like some [censored] Japaneses hack n slash, btw it's is the cheapest form of giving the player illusion of hit impact. However there can be no getting away from the fact that the current design doesn't give you any real indication of a hit, this goes for healing as well, the simplest way to resolve this issue would be to add some form of hit indicator around your aim, something along the lines of CoD, however that's also in a way a cheap trick.

The char will built he or her self based how one's plays -- that is the idea of TES games.
To be correct, you lose NOTHING when you are killed during a siege or by players, not even your armour suffers. Sorry, you need to recharge your weapon for the enchantments, but thats very minor.
On a side note, I absolutely love the game, even the PvP content of it. Moreover, I died a lot and killed a lot (I think it was like 30-10 during a half an hour run), but there doesn't needs to be a log or flying magic numbers, because I can see my ACTION BAR, if it is HIGHLIGHTED, I have a target. I even turned down that red glow a lot, guess what, I still knew what I was targeting....
So basically what you've been saying here is that it would be better to be more ignorant of how the game works? Can you provide a logical reason as to why adding some additional numbers in this game, even if optional, would be bad?
WoW was successful for a variety of reasons, so yeah I'd agree with that. I really don't want to derail this thread as to why WoW was successful, but some of its mechanics in the game were definitely part of that.
What I'm saying is that floating numbers and combat feedback did not lead to gear score and people being jerks about it. That seems like a WoW phenomenon.
I have video of exactly what I'm talking about but can't upload it. I have one video where I'm trying to hit an enemy trebuchet operator with my own trebuchet, and have no idea if I am or not. He's in plain view, not blocked by his trebuchet, my flaming stones are hitting either directly on top of him or very close, and he's not dying so I can't tell if I'm actually hitting him. It's very annoying.
I also can't count the times I've fired an arrow at an enemy in a large PvP battle and not known if it hit because of the incredibly short bow range.
It's things like that I'm talking about.
And yeah what colonel said (which is what I said) about CoD or what they do in Battlefield would be fine. The aiming reticle lets you know you hit someone. That's all that's needed. The numbers themselves aren't necessary, they're just what's common in MMOs to show that you're hitting or healing or whatever. A blinking or pulsating or color changing reticle is all that's needed.
1 word - Immersion.
The Elder Scrolls is about Immersion.
If you want numbers floating around your screen then the Elder Scrolls really is not for you.
As for bows, I have had no trouble using bows and you do eventually get a feel for if you hit or not.
Oh stop it will you?
Nobody is talking about gearscore or elitists.
Just give those who want options, options. And those who dont like it...just leave it be? WHy do you care so much?
That's typically not the idea of an MMO.
Speaking for myself here, and probably a lot of others, usually MMOers like to have numbers to plan their builds. It's nice to know how much of each attribute is sufficient, how much health a typical enemy has, how much damage you can do, how much armor you have, etc. There's going to be more than the TES crowd playing this game, and telling a typical MMOer who is used to a lot of this stuff "Adapt or GTFO" isn't the smartest thing to do.
Messy UI and one will be watching the numbers instead of playing the game on the screen. Watching numbers does not draw one into the game. Watching the screen does.
It is like a movie with sub-titles
Are you watching the movie or are you watching the sub-titles and missing the story, action, etc on the screen?
If damage numbers are passed through to the client, dps meters on other players will be modded into the game. When that happen, minimum dps requirement and elitism dominate any sort of group environment. We don't need that here.
You are aware that you're coming of as something of a jerk yourself right?
Weather it goes in the UI or is an addon won't make a difference in the number of elitists in the game, if it exists somewhere, in need of a download or activation in settings, it's in the game.
The numbers are on the screen.... What do you think is meant by "floating damage numbers"? When a mobs is hit you see the numbers on the screen where you are already watching.
Curiously I don't watch TV or movies at home without subtitles and I tend to spend a lot of time reading those subtitles.
Interesting huh.
You are aware people can do both right? It isn't always a one or the other.
It won't be in the default UI, so either way this is largely irrelevant (they wanted a sleek unobtrusive UI, and they have largely accomplished that) , it may well be in addons though, and if popular in a large number of people's UI, much like WoW.
