Is it me or is there not as much hype as I imagined?

A few minutes ago, I noticed r/Fallout is one of the top subs on reddit.

Have you even been on reddit? Since the announcement of the timer (and way before when the cgi trailer news leaked) this place just EXPLODED. When the trailer for Fallout 4 aired the whole subreddit went into nuclear explosion.

Not only here, Neogaf, youtube, twitch, everywhere.

Fallout 4 trailer already has >14 Million Views in less than 2 weeks. Not even Black Ops 3 achieved that.

There were countless articles, news, recaps posted the days after. Millions of rumours and trailer anolyses and stuff that sounds beyond nerdy.

I've never seen this much hype in years tbh. Dunno where you get the feel that there is almost no hype around :D

I want to be hyped but I'm still eh on some of the stuff I've seen in the trailer and besides what little we know I don't see a point in getting overhyped until knowing I can either run it or the design choices won't be as bad as Fallout 3's

Once E3 comes and passes by, Hype should easily be back, have to remember to keep it in check. :D

Weak hype for Bethesda is still the kind of hype most devs would sacrifice a baby for.

LOL Welcome to the Fallout Forums!!! :)

And yea, I also think that there's a good bit of hype around FO4 already. I mean Twitch had over 100K views when there was JUST a "please stand by" picture showing and the trailer on youtube had 4 mil views within an hour.. and now it has been seen over 14 mil times around the world!

I'm sure that E3 will rev up the hype 100-folds! :)

I'm super hyped! :fallout:  :tops:

With ever increasing sources of social media, this forum doesn't have to bear the brunt of it all anymore. I'm very thankful for that. Instead it is spread over twitter, facebook, reddit, youtube, the Bethesda Blog and more.

More and more will come here looking for info soon enough. I'm currently getting my flame-retardant suit upgraded and polishing my http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/wickedwoman/summer_banstickcopy.jpg.

edit: wait, that one belongs to Princess Stomper. I better get looking for mine. Mine has a rainbow colored bow.

I believe the "relative calm" in the hype is because many people are taking a "wait and let's see the E3 gameplay" before going nuts on the hype. The 3 min trailer we've seen, has been anolyzed and over-anolyzed more than most classic novels like Moby dike or Graqes of Wrath ever have been. (Well maybe not, but pretty close.) I expect the forums to explode after Sunday when we know more about skills, perks, npcs, etc.

There is less hype here compared to other places. With all the other places to go this forum has become more underground.

There was a lot of hype on day of the trailer, but that hype has (naturally) died down a bit since then. After all, there is not much to talk about not to mention that a lot of people prefer to hang around tumblr, reddit and such nowadays (especially those who find F1&2 fans obnoxious).

Not sure about here but at work there are a lot of us who are gamers and are bouncing on the balls of our feet waiting for Fallout 4. It could be a 2D side scroller at this point and I'd be happy.

yep. I see a lot of Fallout 4 posts making it to the top page of Reddit. some people say that reddit is killing off a lot of different forums but personally I don't care for interacting with the reddit community as much as I do here. its just good for being shown cool/interesting stuff.

As I have heard this forum got its first big boost from back in the morrowind days because people got stuck in quests and came here to ask for help. once people have the game in their hands is when these forums will get really busy again. Right after skyrim was released this place was kind of crazy.

I think some of it, as said before, is because the trailer didn't really show anything new or even any sort of gameplay. It showed a bit of the new engine and teased some locations, but really nothing much to go off of.

I also believe that, with the past few years of gaming being filled with total [censored], a lot of gamers are adopting a "wait and see" mentality.

I think people are becoming more cynical and with good reason, the last two or three years have seen AAA titles hyped to the skies only for a lot of them to turn out disappointing. The industry can't continue to sell games on hype alone, pushing pre-orders and enforcing pre-release review embargo's to get as many people as possible buying blind before reviewers or players can give an honest appraisal of the game, it's shady and causes distrust.

Everyone know that there will be more informations given during an upcoming game event. People are just patient and wait for it.

Still, there is a quite noticable increase of activity, here and in other Fallout related communities.

Also, most informations seen during the trailer seems to confirm some informations leaked years before, while still not outright confirming them.

So we still don't KNOW anything while still THINKING the same things as before the trailer. (Boston, Institute, dog protagonist, voiced sidekick, flying vehicles etc..)

We should also remember that people have been talking about Fallout 4 in the Fallout series forum for a few years now. I expect there will be more hype after E3 once we get some more information, but it isn't like people haven't been talking about Fallout 4 rumors for ages.

For example, Boston has been rumored for at least 2 years...

I think this is honestly the biggest culprit. People are a lot more dispersed now, and there's Fallout fans everywhere, so people don't feel compelled to come here to talk about stuff. They can do it on reddit, facebook, tumblr, or anywhere else they regularly hang out.

Plus, there wasn't *too* much to talk about in the trailer. It was designed to appeal to longtime, hardcoe fans, the sort that would be nostalgic for all the stuff that's coming back. I bet E3 will go for a wider demographic, showing off not only the things that are returning but also new ideas, plot, technology, etc. Once we get gameplay or interviews there will be dozens of threads arguing over every word out of the developer's mouths and every pixel on the screen. Right now we mostly have speculation and wishfull thinking, once we have concrete information we'll get the arguments that really drive the forums.

Hype isn't in full gear till we see tv commercials, advertising in stores, and special editions are announced.
