There was a LAN mod, but it wasn't really polished. Project Aedra will include native support for online play when it is finished, though.

There had been numerous attempts to create a multiplayer but to my knowledge they have all failed. The closer thing existing is http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/cne/cne_main.php .

Actually one of them worked partially, but was buggy and supposed to have crashed often.
