Is there a point to the Heavy?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:38 pm

So far, being a heavy makes me seem pretty useless. I last maybe 1 more second under fire, im easier to shoot, can't access half the map, walk really slow and have very mediocre weapons. Seriously, the weapons do like the same damage of SMG's with quarter of the accuracy. And the EZ nade launcher, who decided to make that so useless? It takes like 3-4 grenades to kill someone, and in a game with mobility as its selling point, gl getting that many hits on an enemy with that, especially when there's only 6 grenades in the chamber.

Has anyone else had more success as a heavy? I really don't want to jump the light bandwagon, but this is proving to be frustrating.

I totally dominate as a heavy. Try using a minigun? The GL purpose (i think) is to disable your enemy, not kill them. It will explode and all the enemies in range will fall.

I do, and I wrack up a lot of kills with it, but I can't shake the feeling that I would do better with an SMG, especially when an SMG can beat me in close quarters.

I tried playing as a heavy, and had a moderate amount of fun, but yes I felt quite a bit less effective than as a medium.

The heavy MG (the one with the weird handles) is quite good and doesn't have the spin up of the mini gun. Coupled with a soldier class, thats a lot of ammo down range.

When i played a heavy i felt like a god (was playing on easy and against all bots) but still.
I could wipe out their entire team by myself (i was a soldier, its the only way to go if your a heavy!)

Heavies definitely need a health boost. I prefer light characters but when I tried heavy I felt no difference in the amount of time it took the enemy to down me.

Yeah, and if you have good teammates.....they can give you weapon power boost, adrenaline boost, and health buffs, and let you run into an enemy filled area with mini-gun and do some serious damage.

I found heavy medic is about the same too. I pretty much ignore my team and just keep healing myself, then mow down the team with the heavy guns (haven't tried the GL yet). Seems pretty powerful if you don't run in like your unstoppable.

Have you tried using a minigun? I usually find it easier to use as a class with a minigun.

Has anybody tried Heavy with SMGs? It's what I want to test out when the game drops here.

And @OP, a second under fire can sometimes mean the difference between life & death.

if anything its a GOOD thing that the noob tube isnt powerful. another MW2 noob-tube fest is the LAST thing i want to see from this game (once its patched to actually be playable after they get rid of the EPIC LAG).

Delicious Maximus MG was completely worth it. Annoying to use in bursts even, but that tap fire is amazing.

Once you get used to playing as a heavy, and get comfortable with it's odd assortment of innaccurate but incredibly powerful weapons... you will dominate with it. My favorite assortment of weapons is the most accurate LMG with RDS and larger ammo box paired with my favorite AR with acog scope and grenade launcher. Heavies are great for support and I think they are much less susceptible to knockdown via grenades.

Mediums do a better job of being on the frontline of a conflict because of the mobility boost while also having a good assortment of weapons. But honestly I think people underestimate the heavies mobility and overestimate the lights mobility. Light's usually aren't able to properly put their mobility into effect on the frontline, they are a flanking and espionage class.

I specifically play as a heavy only, mostly using Eng or Medic and I do really well, this is playing online with others and not bots alone. You arent that much slower than medium, and the things you cant reach aren't integral. The weapons you can get are good imo, they just cant be used in all situations. Theres 2 MGs and the gatling, one MG is better long range and can burst really well, other fires really fast and can do close quarters well, and gatling is like close to med. The nade launcher is almost crucial when you have to hack for the last obj and the entire team is rushing to kill the operative itl knock em on their feet and can even kill them.

I usually finish with most kills and best eng when I get in a server that doesnt lag a [censored] ton. Maybe you just need to switch up your tactics a little.

The heavy is meant to be a support class and lay down fire to help kill the enemy. Or find a choke point and point your minigun in that direction and fire when necessary. I had the highest amount of kills in that match because I found a good choke point when defending a position.

I wrecked people as a heavy all day (All online matches on the 360)

Heavy solider, with GL primary and AR Secondary with redsight and noobtube. And when my friends give me health boost, metabolism boost, kevlar, damage boost, and I give myself armor piercing bullets, I AM GOD, there is no other way to describe it. The AR picks off straglers in half a second, and the GL clears rooms with ease. I've gotten plenty of kills with it, but it is best put to work spaming the whole clip at a choke point filled with enemies and leaving your teammates to pick off the bewildered poor souls that make it out alive.

The only thing I could say, is stay out of open areas as a heavy, stay in tight areas where quick movement isn't an option. Don't go to the enemies, let them come to you. Then you can become the inpenetrable wall that you were ment to be, and mow down everyone in front of you.

Heavy is good if the enemy dominates and has a good choke point i think,so you can get 2 medics or something to heal you while you kill everything in your way. :D

I will definetly play one.I just try out every weight. :celebration:

As a heavy Medic withe hardened perk you get a ton of health. If you throw an allied engineer into the fray to boost you with Kevlar and and a weapon upgrade you become a nigh unstoppable beast of destruction. Take a heavy machine gun with you and you can mow down enemies and clear a path for weaker allies such as light and mediums with different specializations. You have to remember it's a team based game and you'll get the most out of it by using teamwork.

This sounds to me like every player is finding themselves good at different class/size combinations.

I'm very happy to hear that.
