There really needs to be a settlement management windo

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 6:51 pm

It's hard knowing which settlers are assigned to what, which ones do or don't have jobs, who are new etc... There needs to be a list of every "usable" station and a list of settlers so you can know which ones are assigned

I have to agree there. It's quite hard working out which settlers have jobs.

If there are idle settlers I would like to know about them by looking at my pip boy

They should just highlight the settlers a different colour if they are idle

I agree, would make things easier. Until then there's atleast something that makes easier to tell. Go into build mode and hoover over you character so he/she is highlighted, that will also highlight whatever object he is assigned to (crops, guard post etc.). Ofcoursr this isn't as good but if your settler and his potential workplace is close to eachother you can figure out his assignment.

I use the bells to make it easier though.

Just ring the bell. wait for them to all come over then go into build mode to highlight them to see if they have a job.

Agreed - if your settlement is large it's hard to see what people are assigned to even when you highlight them. While we're at it, I'd like the proposed settlement management screen to allow us to name our settlers, or just add their current role to their name - something like Settler (Trader) etc.

Yes. I agree. I made a post about this as well.

I really hope they fix these things, and I wonder why they did not make a settler management menu.

Building a settlement feels like a glorified mod tbh.
A proper system would actually have stats, custom windows and better placement of walls and cellings.

Still, this is their first try at this and I'd say its pretty good already.

I look forward to the improvement to this system in the next Elder Scrolls title.

Absolutely, after starting arranging supply lines this is my #1 annoyance. Especially since they are just called "settler"

Let us name them if they don't have any, or just get us a random list that the game picks from.

It's bothersome to have to remember that "brown tench coat guy" supplies Oberland Watch and "checkered shirt girl" is tending the crops there.

Keep in mind that any settler who is unassigned will automatically do farm chores. They'll take care of their own basic survival needs, no need to assign them farm duties.

At a guess, the current implementation is already "way overboard" (as Todd said) and they wanted to be sure to keep it optional, so they probably didn't want to spend even more resources making it even more detailed for people who like it since some people don't want to do it at all.

Also, their main intention was to incorporate something into the game where people could create stuff (in-game modding) without needing to learn the Creation Kit toolset or other user-made tools.

All new Settlers are assigned as , once assigning them a role their sub title changes accordingly. The Settlers names should be able to be edited to whatever the player chooses as having a name associated with these minions adds emotional attachment. A simple solution yet pretty effective as you would see at a glance as to who is doing what or who is doing nothing at all.

i dont know what this is.. what bell?

also, when you highlight them.. you are doing this in workbench mode rigtht? maybe im not looking at the correct parth of the screen but i havent seen any information about what each person is currently assigned to. I have been relying on trying to remember what the settlers look like. I havent seen any info in the ui that tells me what someone is assigned to, i will look again. And maybe I can find this bell you are talking about

The bell calls them together, maybe the computer terminal that can be built is supposed to be a manager.

But it's terrible slow to equip them with weapons first picking the weapons from the settlement stuff and handing them out.

And it's also terrible slow to build the junk fence all around.

And it's not possible to lock the settlement gate.

And the settlement supplier has not escort protection and doesn't require a brahmin, so what's the brahmin trug for?

Mine keep switching jobs as well. I assign someone to farm, and come back and someone else is farming and the previous farmer is off shopping or something. It would be amazing to have a way to keep up with them.

One of the items you can build is a bell, that when rung will call all the settlers together.

There was a suggestion made in another thread to add a notice board that you can build that would display what settlers are doing what jobs, which I thought was a good idea.

A proper tracking system on the settlers would be great, maybe just tag them with their jobs underneath the Settler title, so we can see at a glance what they're assigned to.

I'd also like to be able to name my settlers, or they could have random names assigned which we find out after talking to them.

Ah yeah, I found it shortly after this post. Thanks. It is nice to gather all of them together. However, the only way to see what each person is assigned to, is by hovering on them while you are in workshop mode. This will place a colored outline on the character. At the same time, whichever item or objects they are assigned to will also be highlighted in the same manner. This is great, if you happen to be near the item/object or are in its line of sight. But workers are assigned to objects all over the settlement. For large settlements like Sanctuary, it is not possible to see the entire thing. This leads to a very tedious process of following settlers around,. and seeing if you can find the associated highlighted object. Or you could build like 20 bells and place them all over the settlement, at all of the lines of sight. lol.

A menu would be a welcomed addition. IDK how they would implement that because the menu would have to be dynamic, but im sure they could figure it out. This would be helpful not only for identifying which settler are assigned to what, but also allow you to do the assigning right there. Instead of having to select a settler, then run to other end of the settlement to click the object you want to assign them to. The whole process is just very tedious and time consuming, and loses its appeal after a while... especaiily when you have to do this at 20+ settlements.

Also, someone made a comment about settlers being automatically assigned to garden work. I have found that this is mostly true. However, there have been circumstances where this is not true; where I have had new settlers who were not assigned to anything. This is easy to identify when you manually assign them to farming, and your food score goes up. If you assign them to farming and the food score remains the same, they were already assigned. Same things with your defense score. Watch both scores when assign a settler to anything, to help determine if/where they were previously assigned
