There’s a Spy around here

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 2:03 am

I think a useful feature of the game would be the ability to disguises yourself.

Now disguises would have to be equipped individually, unlike a spy from TF2, you would have to replace your armor i.e. equip a robe instead of full body armor,
a mace instead of a four foot long board sword, and maybe some kind of mask but you’d gain two key advantages.

-The ability to trick human enemies you’re one of them

And/or

-Commit crimes without being convicted

Converse.

I worked on it for Oblivion, never got around to some of the stuff I wanted to lol like committing a murder dressed like Mythic Dawn and getting away with it, strictly because the Guard AI was screwy lol. I want this to return.

We had that in New Vegas and to a lesser extent in the Shivering Isles. Theres a good chance it could be the same in skyrim.

Maybe itd be cool if guards identified you based on what you were wearing at the time of the crime. Kinda like in Gta getting ur car painted. But instead of getting away with the crime (depending on the severity) theyll slowly find out who you are. Maybe with a incognito meter?

It'd be awesome if guards reacted more to clothing than to facial appearance if the haven't seen you themselves. Logically, it's easier to describe clothing than the face. If they have seen you however, clothes won't hide you unless you always keep your back towards them. It might be complex but it's TES! :D

You could take the robes of zealot's and heretics, and they wouldn't attack you unless you got too close.

I did. and I just wanted to make it clear that I am against injecting aspects from other games just because they were very popular.

on topic: probably will see something simular to faction armor. but stealthily commiting crimes in OB was never really that hard. as far as changing out fits to evade legion (or whoever is enforcing law in skyrim) would be to easily abused like the grey cowel.

The role of a disguise in Skyrim would be far less than it's role TF2, it would merely be something to make the game more realistic and also give you the ability to at least have a chance at stealing something without being caught.

I myself am fine with the faction armour style from New Vegas, my only complaint is that a disguise shouldn't work if you're acting 'out of the ordinary' and are in close proximity to others of the faction you're disguised as. On a side note can I sap the sentries?

they did have something like that in OB though. it was a reward for completing a faction quest line. you could put on the grey cowel and commit crimes anonymously and take it of and the legion would not recognize you as the one who did the crime. it is something that could easily be abused. but will it reappear in Skyrim, maybe, I read another topic where it was mentioned that alot of unique items like that were coming back again. so in a way you may get what you want.

but will it be as acessable as being able to change car color in GTA to avoid persuit. not likely. gamesas is super crazy about balance.

Do you wear a straight jacket too? :P

Seriously, don't be so strickt, if they truly would not take inspiration from other games, they'd have to leave out much of the sneak improvements in Oblivion. Hell, they even hired a guy that worked on Thief (2?).

OT: Meh. Whatever :P

I hope for improved guard mechanics atleast ;)

But see that's a little too extreme this would be something that's hard to use, often failed, but still could work if you didn't get close to anyone while in disguise and ran away as soon as the guards came for you.

As much I love what they did in New Vegas I think the disguises could be worked on more. If I kill someone dressed as a Mythic Dawn member for instance, and no one see's my face then I shouldn't get the blame. Assuming I ca get away with it.

It would make assassinations more fun. Kinda like the Hit Man series.

so yeah, I agree with you then. they did something almost exactly like that in NV. only in reverse. you could wear the clothing of a faction that hates you and walk around them with trouble. until you speak to them. NV could have been a platfrom for gamesas to test faction disguises, and it worked so...

Sounds like a thing they should consider for implementation (and elaboration) in Skyrim in my opinion.

Disguises would add a ton of versatility to stealthy characters. Odd behavior and your stealth skill should probably determine whether or not you are caught.

If they really put work into it, you could get wars goin. Dress as an imperial guard and start a fight in the tavern, maybe they wont accept Guards there any more.
